DETAILED CREATIONS

signed contract and gave down payment with a check- john accepted check and asked me to write it to owner as apposed to buisness so they wouldnt have to pay taxes on it. job started 3/16/09, the weather was sunny and 65 degrees for the first 3 days but they only worked from 10:30a to 3p. I complained about this due to upcoming bad weather forecast and was told i didnt understand the building process. They were suppose to break up the would from the tear down of the sunroom and burn it in the firepit but instead they piled the building inthe middle of my yard and burned a 14 ft circle in the middle of my yard. i complained about this and they said they would fix it. They then took 4 days off due to illness and and plans for the weekend that they could not reschedule. Theyknew we would be leaving town on the 27th for 8 days and that they needed to make every attempt to complete project by then yet they continued to work 4 and 5 hour days. the first full day they worked was the 27th so we had to leave the rest of the money with the house sitter. The doors werent available yet so we agreed to leave out 400 dollars in case someething happened and they werent able to return. when they approached the housitter for the rest of the money they told her everything was done- she asked if the fans worked and they said yes. she turned the switch and they did not- so they had to rewire them. they also had to be reminded to reseed the burned grass. she paid them. upon our return we found that the electric had been done incorrectly and there were several exposed wires- as well as the light fixture mounted upsidedown. we called and left a message about the electrical needing repaired as well as that the doors were available at homedepot for pick up and installation. we did not receive a call back. instead we received a letter 2 days later stating that they would not be returning to finish due to the criticisms i had during the builing process. also they stated we voided the contract by making the initial payment with a check leaving a paper trail. they never mentioned this to us before. we now had a fire hazard as well as interior doorsexposed to 3 days of snow. we have 3 small children and this created much concern. my husband was finally able to get a hold of them after 4 more phone calls- they agreed to come back and look at the electrical but said they would only finish the doors if we gave them an additional175 dollars to help towards the cost of the tax they would have to pay on the check we wrote. we then had to call home depot and ask if one of their installers could come out and look at it. they require someone to come measure before bringing the door out. It turned out that he completely mismeasured the door- it was a special order door so we would have to pay a 200 dollar restocking fee and wait another 3 weeks for a new door or pay an additional 250 dollar fee for thier contractors to repair the oor and they would put it in the next day.
