Total Appliance Service & Parts

Mostly pros: The technician was courteous and friendly and arrived within the promised window of time. And he was able to fix our fridge by replacing the non-working fan. One con: The company did not have a replacement fan in stock. I'm not taking off a lot of points for this; after all, stuff like this happens. Still, given that the Whirlpool fridge is only three or four years old and Total Appliance Service is an authorized Whirlpool repair provider, shouldn't they have had a replacement fan in stock? As it happened, it took one day for the part to arrive at Total, and then we had to wait another day after that for Total to be able to send a technician back to our home. In the meantime, we had to toss out several hundred dollars worth of spoiled food. Again, I don't want to come down too hard on Total, especially because they sent us a superb technician. But overall, our experience with them (and with the much-respected Whirlpool brand) was not quite worthy of an "A." Bottom line: yes, we'd recommend Total Appliance Service and yes, we'd use them again.

I had called Total Appliance to request service on my Whirlpool dryer. The receptionist said they could send a technician out the following day. I explained that I had a dentist appointment in the late morning and could they work around it. Later that day, I received a message that someone could come between 3 and 5pm and could I confirm that time. I called the number they left on me and left message confirming the time. The next day, the receptionist left two messages on my home phone at 1pm and 1:30. The first message said that the technician would be out between 3 and 5 pm. The next message said the technician was available to come out. Then I received a message at 2pm from a technician saying he was at my door and I was not home. I called the company when I got home from the dentist at 2:50. Without apology, the receptionist stated that the technician was not in my area anymore and could not come out until Monday. She explained that since I they had not received my message confirming the time so they sent the technician at 2 instead of 3. I told her I was having dental work as I had explained to them when I initially made the appointment and could not receive their messages. I also did not understand why they would send someone at a different time than they had said they would even if they had received my confirmation. I had made arrangements to be home between the hours they had said they would arrive and felt they should have not come earlier. The receptionist was very argumentative and rude. I would not use this company again nor would I recommend them.

They came to put in the new part, but it was the wrong one. They came back a few days later with the correct part and installed it. They gave me a discount because of this inconvenience. My interactions with them were good.

Total Appliance Service came out 11/18/2009 to assess repair and to notify manufacturer for warranty repair authorization. Ordered parts and said it would take a week to 10 days for the parts to come in. The appointment was scheduled for 12/8/2009, but then rescheduled by Total Appliance saying the parts did NOT come in. On 12/10/2009 the repairman walked in the door and apologized before he even started the work saying that he did not think he had enough parts. He did not. After doing what he could, he said that he was a SUB and that he would personally order the rest of the parts, would place a RUSH order on them, and personally call me to confirm. He did not. I called Total Appliance on 12/17/2009 and Kim said that there was NO rush placed on the parts, and did not schedule the repair until 12/23/09! The repairman came out and started working on the dryer and said that he still did not have enough parts but he would meet a parts courier a few miles away and be back to finish the repair. He did, and after a month and five days the dryer finally appears to be repaired.

Everything went well from start to finish. The repairman (Russ?) arrived during his window and got to work immediately. As soon as I explained the problem, he took one look at the washer and said it was due to our drain hose being hooked up incorrectly (not elevated). I told him we had just moved into the house two days earlier and had never owned a washer before and that we didn't have the instruction book. He explained how the hose was supposed to be hooked up and what we needed to do in order to get the water to run into our drain. This guy was obviously honest -- once he saw how clueless I was about washers he could have taken me for a real ride and spun some story about the error code indicating an additional problem, blah, blah, blah, but he didn't. He was in and out in less than five minutes.

Great. Joe the technician 1st came on July 2 and diagnosed the problem as one of the recirculating pumps failing. He had to order the part so a second call was scheduled for July 10 to install the new pump. The scheduler told me 1st call of the day was 8:30 AM but Joe arrived at 7:55 both times, which was great for me because I had things to do both days so I was off to an earlier start than I expected. Joe gave me some valuable information on how to maintain my washer and advise when its time to get a new one.

They gave me a time frame when they would show up and they were there in the early part of it. They were upfront with all the fees. I was very satifisied with thier work.

It went very well. Matt came within the window of time set and he didn't make numerous trips back and forth from his truck. He was prepared to do work, which he did. He went about his work in an efficient manner. He was very clean and didn't smell of tobacco or alcohol. He spoke directly and didn't mumble.

They experience was very good and the prices were competitive. They were very efficient and they got the job done. They were very punctual and they came when they said.

From the start with the first phone call. Kim in the office is super! I had a very negative experience with Complete Appliance, called Kim to order parts, and was able to send a check in after she had ordered the one door, and cold control unit.

I called this morning and was told it would be tomorrow unless there was a cancellation today. There was. Got a call about 2:00 and Larry arrived a few minutes later. He disassembled the dryer in a flash and installed a new belt. He then checked our refrigerator--it wasn't cold enough despite being turned all the way up. He checked temperatures and set the freezer temp higher and fridge temp lower, explaining that the latter control doesn't really chill, but just opens/closes a door. The freezer control is what makes it colder. Also checked the defrost, showed me the vents and told me they should be kept clear. He was in and out in 30 minutes!

What I have a problem with is that he was here for 15 minutes and charged me $94.77 to tell me that. I thought the service call was very excessive when he did not do anything.

When our trash compactor bin wouldn't open, I checked the list. The first three appliance repair companies I called said they don't work on trash compactors because they can't get parts for them. I then called Total Appliance where the receptionist quoted their fees and made an appointment for two days later. The technician appeared as scheduled, promptly diagnosed and repaired the problem while giving me helpful advice about the compactor and other appliances. Couldn't have had a better experience!

Tony came out. He checked the washer and explained to me what happened and how it works. He did an excellent job. I have used this company in the past and it continues to be an A+ business.

The service man was prompt, professional, and his price was reasonable. I have had no trouble with anything since he repaired them. I would recommend him to others.

The dryer works fine now. It's running well, the worker did a good job. He came on time, and he fixed the dryer while charging a reasonable amount of money.

Tony came and diagnosed the problems, the dishwasher was out of warranty, however, he suggested we call Maytag to see if they would furnish the replacement parts which Maytag did. The parts came into Total Appliance, which they installed. Only charge to us was 1 trip charge and 1 labor charge and tax.

Refrigerator did not produce cold air. Called on Monday morning - they fit us in their busy schedule. Repair person arrived early evening - diagnosed a bad thermostat - very nice - courteous (removed shoes) - had the part! Replaced it. All done within 30 minutes.

My frig was freezing up in the back wall. John dismantled the back, removed the old evaporator and installed the new evaporator. Then he had to pump in new coolant into the frig. He put together the frig and knew exactly where to put my shelves. He had the presence of mind to mark the holes with a pencil. He did a great job and was very personable.

Scheduler and repairman were courteous. Repairman called and arrived on schedule. He assessed the problem, offered an estimate, quickly made the repair and charged us according to the estimate. Surprisingly, the estimate included labor and parts - much cheaper than we anticipated. He also checked the burners and offered advice on how to clean them to help them to light more consistently. Oven works beautifully.

Great experience overall. Slight downgrade on punctuality only because I had to wait at home all day for the repair man to fit me in. Would have appreciated a block of time estimate or a phone call an hour out. As it was, the receptionists were pleasant with my multiple phone calls back to get updates throughout the day.

Service agent arrived on time, was very professional, was careful about keeping the area clean and cleaning up after himself. Worked rapidly and limited the time necessary to fix the appliance and therefore limited my costs.

They came out and found out that the range needed a whole new computer panel replaced and ordered the part. When the part came in, the same tech came back and installed it. The tech was very courteous and very professional. While he was here, he noticed that the lever on my brand new fridge had a stain. He told me that this was a problem with that particular brand and took the appliance number and re-ordered the part for me. I felt that really went above and beyond in customer service.

Next day service. Price was reasonable. They didn't try to cheat me into having something done that didn't need to be.

Called Monday morning, April 2 to set appointment for refrigerator repair. The appointment was set for Tuesday morning. I indicated that I needed to leave for work at noon. I was told I would receive a call at 8:30 Tuesday to confirm the work. I was called at 8:30 and told that the representative would be here between 10 and noon. I again indicated that I needed to leave for work at noon. The person told me it was in the notes and that would not be a problem. I received a call at 12:10 that the technician was 15 minutes away. This obviously caused me to get to work late and miss an important faculty meeting. Work completed at 12:50 and technician left at 12:55.
