T he original call was for a repair of the existing garage door opener. It was determined that the opener could not be fixed and so a new one was ordered on the recommendation of the technician. The technician was on time and performed the service in a timely manner. When the new opener was available he again came to do the work. He was prompt, friendly, and worked efficiently. He set up the key pad and programed my car. I was pleased with his work.

I am sorry you had a bad experience. We will always try to correct any problems a customer has with a repair or installation, but they have to notify us of the problem. In your case I show no record of doing work at your house for the last several years.

They diagnosed the problem very quickly. They offered the option of fixing or replacing it. It was an old opener and because of that, they couldn't guarantee that it would not break again. It was not a lot difference in cost, so we chose to replace the entire opener. They came as promised, did the job, and cleaned up after everything. They set our car remotes and explained everything very clearly. It impressed me in how honest they were when they told me there were several different models for the motor of the opener unit. They did not try to sell me a higher level of an opener that we needed. We were very pleased with their services and we would use them again.
Description of Work: Our garage door didn't open and we called them out for the repair.

In the end, they got the work done. But the journey getting there was anything but pleasant. You can read all the inconvenient and frustrating details below, but in short, the office can not schedule appointments in a convenient fashion for people with full time jobs that are not near their homes. The people I talked to in the office were also not very knowledgeable or helpful about the installation or buying decisions. And the office and the technicians are not well coordinated. Genie of Fairview repaired my garage door opener about two months ago. I was given the choice to repair or replace but not really advised one way or the other even when I asked. Unfortunately, the motor broke two months later. I can't fault them too much for this as it is certainly out of there control. But I believe the technician could have done a better job advising me of the likelihood that the motor might break given the known age of the unit and the stresses involved. I called them to schedule a service appointment to determine what was broken. But they were unable to give me a time window in which they would do the work, and I work too far from home to return before they arrive. Thus they suggested I just leave the door on manual so the tech could get in, and they told me the tech would call me if there were any issues. I didn't receive any call. Instead when I got home there was a note that said it was broken and and quot;call the officeand quot;, plus a bill for $90. Obviously I was not at all happy to be billed $90 just to be told it was broken... When I called the office the next morning to learn the details, they didn't have them. They were shouting to each other in the background to see if anyone had the technician's report. No one did. So they told me they'd call the technician and ask him, then call me back. I got the return call a few minutes later and they explained that the motor on the unit was broken, that they couldn't replace it, and I'd need a new opener. I was beginning to complain about the $90 bill when they told me I wouldn't have to pay it. This was great, but why leave me a bill in the first place then and making me think I'm going to have to call and argue about it? They also said they'd knock $40 dollars off the price of the new one because they'd just been out there to repair the old unit. Again this was nice, but after being charged $250 to repair the old one, then being given a $90 bill to tell me it's broken (even if I didn't have to pay it), plus another $350 to replace, I think you can see why I wasn't exactly thrilled to get $40 off... Next they quoted a price for a new garage door opener. But I had to inquire after if there were other models available and what there relative features and prices were. I selected one over the phone, but still felt like I'd been taken advantage of so I had to research Genie openers online and try to correlate them with the little information I'd been given on the phone. In the end I think it came out OK, but it was a terrible buying experience for such a significant appliance. I scheduled the appointment for the next day, and again they were to do the work while I was not home. When I came home after they replaced it I immediately noticed two things: 1) there were cracks in the garage door visible from the outside and 2) the rail was bending a lot when the door was closed. I think there were some cracks already in the door, but I don't remember them being so dented and pronounced. I called the company to ask if the rail bending was a problem and to say I thought the cracks had been further damaged. They sent the tech back out, this time I insisted he come first thing in the morning so I could be there. The tech said the rail is supposed to bend on this model, unlike my previous garage door opener. Why they couldn't have explained that on the phone and saved me the trouble I don't know. But even still, I believe the door had been programmed to close too tightly, and the tech did completely reprogram it. Partly because the door was also failing the and quot;contact returnand quot; test described in the manual. The tech claimed that the cracks couldn't have been made worse by the work he did, and since I can't prove they really are worse there was nothing I could do about it. I still suspect that the down position was configured too far down, and the extra force from the arm to the mounting arm to the bracket on the door caused the door to dent and crack more. Again, they claim this is not the case, and I'm not confident enough to make a big stink about it. In the end I'm happy with the new opener and I believe the technician did a mostly competent job installing it (even if he may have damaged it by not accounting for how weak it is). But the inflexible scheduling, poor buying process, and the number of visits they had to make to get this done leave me unhappy about the experience.

Technician knew what the problem was the second he heard the door operate. He fixed it quickly and competently. This is the important part, and I was very happy with it. Only complaint is the office was very awkward about scheduling. I asked if he could come in the morning and they said, maybe, and told me to call at 8 am the morning of the appointment to get a service window. So I had no idea until that morning when they might come out. When I called, I was told I was the first appointment and that he should be on his way. But they still couldn't tell me what time to expect him and it was about 40 minutes later that he arrived. Again, aside from scheduling, they did good work.

The reason we decided on Genie of Fairview Door Co. is in the past when we had trouble with our old garage door, they came out to our home and gave us an estimate of repair in a timely manner. Although our door was old, we were never pressured to replace it at the time of repair. We were so pleased with their past service that when we decided to replace our garage door, we knew that Genie of Fairview was the vendor we wanted even though we may have purchased a door cheaper through a big box store. We also had them install a new garage door opener as well. We would recommend their product and their fine service.
Description of Work: Genie of Fairview Door Company removed and hauled away our old wood garage door and installed the new door. They were precise and exacting in the installation and made sure all was working properly. The staff and installers were very professional and knew their product.

The repair man arrived at the scheduled time and he went right to work. He replace both bottom brackets on both doors, reset the door springs, oiled and serviced the 60+ year old doors and tightened the chains on the door openers. He cleaned up the area and was on his way in an hour. The total cost was $138.01. I have used Genie of Fairview Park in the past and will continue to use them. The overall service experience is excellent and at no time did they try to sell me new doors. I know the door replacement day is coming and Genie of Fairview will do the replacing. If you need honest fair garage door service, give Genie a call.

It went very well. They did not come to my home but solved the problem, over the phone.
Description of Work: I did not actually use the services of Genie of Fairview. I called them and explained to them that the door would only go up (and not down). They explained to me that a wire or connection was probably loose and told me to look for a loose wire or connection. I did as they suggesed and the problem was solved.

We apologize for any problems you had with us. We may not have communicated clearly that it always takes approximately 3 weeks for a new door to be delivered. We try to give you morning, afternoon, or first calls when at all possible, but sometimes problems occur. We thought we indicated a morning call for you. Our installer arrived about 11 am, so we were under the impression all was well. We are sorry for any misunderstanding we may have caused.

My garage door was really old and started to make horrendous noise every time it opened or closed. I thought I would have to replace the door even though it wasn't in the budget. Genie came and told me the door was too heavy for the number of support struts and that it was literally breaking apart as a result. They explained that they could reinforce the door which would close the cracks (not perfectly) but that it would fix the problem and so not need to be replaced. They even told me how to paint the door so that it would look better. They did a fantastic job. The door was so silent afterwards that I could no longer tell from inside the house if the door had closed when I pushed the remote... so I had to check. I followed their advice about painting the door and now it looks fabulous! Thanks Genie of Fairview

Made a mistake and called Action Door in Brooklyn Heights on Monday after coming home from the Fire Department and finding my door wasn't operating. I just got Angies List the day before and didn't notice the Action Door they listed was one in Mentor. Action Door's yellow pages ad with phone number states to ask about their lifetime spring warranty. When I called for service, they said there was no such thing as a lifetime warranty on springs. They didn't seem to care that their new yellow pages ad stated this warranty. Anyway, two guys came later in the day. They backed into the driveway, breaking some branches on a tree on their right side and also hitting the basketball net over the driveway with their ladder rack. If I hadn't stopped them they would then had been too far over to the other side of the driveway, and would have had about a foot to open their vehicle door next to my new truck I had just got. My driveway is 21 feet wide and they had plenty of room. Sent them packing and said I didn't need their service. Looked at Angie's website again and contacted who I should have in the first place. Genie of Fairview. Very happy with response and service. Dis notice latter that week that the roller tracts had been bent on each side in the same place. Maybe this was to install rollers easier. Didn't pick this up till after the service call was made. Area left clean, but garage door had alot of greasy finger prints on the inner panels which I had to clean later on. About 34 sets on hand prints. Serviceman was Matthew. Would definitely recommend this company and serviceman to friends. By the way, they do have a lifetime warranty on springs.
Description of Work: Garage door spring broke on a double car garage. One car still inside. Garage spring was replaced and well as the lift wires rewound. Repairman also replaced the rollers due to wear. Spring was replaced with a larger one to reduce wear.

After my phone call, the serviceman waited on the phone while I tried unplugging and plugging back in. The garage door worked just fine after that.
Description of Work: I phoned Genie of Fairview to make an appt to have my garage door serviced. When I described the problem I was having with the door, the serviceman asked me to unplug the opener, wait ten seconds, plug it back in and give it a try. I did just that.It worked! And I have been waiting three months to get a serviceperson. The thing is, an appointment could have been scheduled and I would have paid to make the door work. I am thankful for this honesty.
