TErrible!!!
Description of Work: They were quick to the job and quick to insist I start ASAP on 15k worth of sewer work. I held back and had 2 other companies inspect first. As I suspected - it was all a sham. Both companies inspected my sewer with cameras and said there was nothing wrong. Do NoT use these con-men. They brought 5 people out to my place and tried to spread doom and gloom. DO NOT EVEN Call them.

I live in an old neighborhood with lots of big, beautiful, old trees and their constant hunt for moisture in old sewer lines. Having the floor drain snaked out has been an annual event for the past 5 years I've lived here. After a fiasco with a well-known national company I had settled on another well-known national company--they were knowledgeable, straightforward, and always got the drain opened. They had camera-scoped the line two years ago, and had said that the line was in really good shape for its age--tree roots would always be a fact of life with an old clay line, but if it was cleaned regularly, it should be fine for years. Once a year, when the rinse cycle started showing up in an overflow drain, I knew it was time to call. Same thing this year. They came, they went, told me they would honor a 30-day warranty even though I had declined another free scoping. Two weeks later, I had overflow again, this time on a Saturday. They came out (no extra charge)--the man asked what size blade the first rooter had used. I didn't know, but on my invoice it said I had a 3-inch cleanout. He said no, this is a 4-inch cleanout, so it needed a 4-inch blade. It didn't take him very long to open it up; he did say he thought it would be a good idea to get it re-scoped just to be sure. Two days later, my husband noticed that the overflow drain, while not actually overflowing, looked damp, like it recently had some splash back. When the company called to schedule the scoping, I readily agreed. A really nice guy, the team supervisor, came out, scoped the drain, and did not like what he saw. Not just sewer sludge, but mud was coming into the pipe, which indicated a break in the line. He pointed out a curve where the edge of one tile was obviously not in line with the other. The camera was underwater just before this point, which meant the line also had a belly--a section of it had dropped. He had a nifty little indicator in the scope, so he left it in the line and went out with another nifty little device that could find the scope underground, even measure the depth. 10.6 feet, as a matter of fact. He estimated $ 7400 to completely replace the line and it would have a 15-year warranty. A spot repair would cost $ 3800 and have a 10-year warranty. He recommended that if I got multiple estimates on the work that I use major, franchised companies as opposed to individual plumbers, who might have a cheaper estimate but not do as good a job. He stated he was confident I'd find his bid to be the lowest by far. So, I followed his advice, although I also included some individual plumbers. :) He even waited while I hunted down a DVD+RW, and then re-scoped the drain, recording it so that my husband could see the issues, and so that not everybody had to traipse their equipment through the house to see the same thing. Estimates were running in the $6500-7500.00 range to replace the whole line (about 80 feet), and $3400-3800.00 to just repair the ten-foot section. This was unexpected, and discouraging. I had 2 more bids I wanted to hear, one of them being Mr. Rooter. I'd never heard of them before, but they had high marks on both the BBB and Angie's List--kind of unusual. They offered to come out that evening, but I preferred next morning, so I was scheduled for the 8 AM to 10 AM window. We received a call at 7AM that confirmed the appointment; Alex Harrison arrived at 8:30. He inquired how I knew my sewer line was broken, so I told him my whole story. He kept wanting to know the name of other company, which didn't sit well with me. I hate it when companies bash their competition, especially since the competition isn't around to respond. He explained that various scopes have various quality, so I showed him the scoping on DVD (it was good quality--the same brand he uses.) He told me he saw no evidence of a broken sewer line--the edge that was supposedly a break was where the tile had off-set from the other tiles a little bit; that if there was a belly (a low spot in the line that creates ponding), it wasn't big enough to cause a serious problem; and that there wasn't mud in the line, it was just more sludge, caught in the roots. He actually thought the tile was in good shape, and suggested hydro-jetting the line, which would take out the numerous root b****. He would charge me $375, but I would also get an Angies List discount, so it would be $325 and have a 1 year warranty. He didn't have the jet truck with him, but he could get it and come right back. I had another estimate scheduled, so I told him I would let him know. All the estimates for replacement were coming in at $6500-7500, and since the plumber who was supposed to call before noon hadn't, I cancelled that app't and had Alex come back for the jetting. The jet attaches to the camera line, so I could watch his progress. He said it was normal for clay tile lines to get hair-sized roots at every connection point, but the jet would cut the thick portions out. The line would probably always need an annual cleaning, but it wasn't in bad shape. Funny, that's what my previous plumbing company had said two years ago. It made more sense to me than that my line has suddenly crumbled. I filled the bathtub half-full with water, and when he was finished, I flushed the toilet and drained the tub at the same time. YES!! It drained just fine. He had me flush the toilet 5x to be sure. I think I'll celebrate by doing laundry! I really recommend Alex and the Mr. Rooter company. He sincerely wanted to do the right thing.
Description of Work: Called them for bid/estimate on sewer line I was told was broken. They reviewed the DVD I had of the sewer being scoped, suggested a hydrojetting instead of a repair/replacement, as they saw no evidence of a break or belly in the line. Successfully opened line same day with hydrojetting.

They were here the whole time. They seemed really nice and thorough. They did not cause any problems while they were out. The price was competitive. They were always out when they said that they would be. There is a leak where they drilled for the sump pump, but I have not talked with them about it so they might rectify it. The overall project took five days to complete.

We had a blockage in a gutter drain pipe in the front yard. Mr Rooter came out the next day and examined with pipe camera. We were presented with two options, neither of which would really solve our problem. We chose the less expensive option (to snake the pipe instead of blast with water) which found that the blockage was a root mass. We were then offered another option to dig up the front yard, remove a tree, tear up the sidewalk, relay the pipe and then replace everything including the sidewalk for $1700. A "two day job" i was told. I checked Angie's List and found three other companies that wuld do the job for less than $1,000 and ended up paying $750 for a job that took three hours. I did not lose the tree or the sidewalk and you can hardly tell they were even there. I was given the distinct impression the entire time that I was being "sold" on one thing or another. "You could do this, but I would do this for 3x the price." As it turns out the $600 upgrade he suggested would not have even solved our problem! Kudos to Mr. Rooter for showing up on time and having a high tech camera to view inside the pipe. I would also like to mention that they did not charge me for snaking the pipe since it did not solve the problem. Very cool. But this in no way overshadows how they would have destroyed our yard and charged us more than double for what was a three hour job.

Lack of communication and unprofessionalism sums up the entire experience from the first call. Summary of experience: 1) Called and appointment was set for between 3-5PM. First they called at 1PM and said they were on their way which did not work for me. I left work early for the 3-5PM appointment and they did not show up until after 7PM....they never called to update or let me know they were going to be late. 2) Kurt came out and replaced ring on toilet, replaced flap upstairs (after repair toilet ran constantly), and after running a FREE plumbing inspection camera through our house recommended hydroflushing pipes. 3) Charged credit card close to $700 and said he would be out for hydroflushing the next AM 4) After research we decided against hydroflushing ...company proceeded to try to charge us $321 for replacing ring on toilet. Claimed we had to pay for 'free' plumbing inspection since we decided against hydroflushing and raised price of ring replacement above what was on invoice. Proceeded to argue prices over the phone and make inflammatory accusations against me. Eventually they conceded and only charged for replacement of ring at the cost of the invoice. I would never use this service or recommend again....if you choose to use make sure it is clearly outlined the cost of the services. Also, beware of hydroflushing a service they seem determined to try to sell regardless of need.

It went very well. The technician came in and analyzed the problem gave me an estimate. My disposal had a crack in it and the cap on the pipe with a cap under the sink was too short which was causing a leak under the sink in the kitchen. The techician referred me to Home Depot to compare the price. The price was comparable. The technician return with the parts and replace the disposal and extended the pipe with the cap. The total job took about an hour to be completed. He also remove the old disposal and the packing from the new disposal. The technician also check all the plumbing in the whole house.

I picked this company out of the phone book(I know, I know....) because they have free estimates and same day service. They were out within a few hours. The gentleman who came out was very friendly and knowledgeable. He even checked our radon detector while in the basement and made sure I knew how to read it. He worked on getting our plumbing unclogged and used a few tricks up his sleeve, but was finally able to get it fixed. PS- rice cannot go down the garbage disposal!
Description of Work: Our sink was clogged. A different company was sent via our home warranty and they told us we were going to have to make a hole in a finished basement wall to create a clean out for the plumbing, but we decided to get a second opinion.
