Description of Work: I did work I scraped up as asbestos tiles for this man and he never paid me I went back to get my tools and he told the cops I broke in the house and had us tresspassed from the property and it was a schools property

+ 4 moreI have been a customer of G.L. Dart for at least 20 years. They have installed new roofs on two of my properties, a major excavation, and, just recently, a new paver brick walkway and arbor. They are my 'go to' company. I often say to my friends- "if they can't do it, they'll find the best who will." It is hard to find, these days, a company that puts its customers first. So many times they have corrected, redone or improved on my projects without a second thought - no hassles or arguments. They have always been fair with me. Are there contractors who are cheaper? Perhaps, but not with the peace of mind that they offer

+ -1 moreThis company did a roof on the house next to me 1 year ago. The job took an entire week and they refused to clean up scrap and nails on a daily basis, I had nails and scrap in my lawn and I even stepped on a nail and had to get a tetanus shot because of it. I called and talked to Greg, the owner, and told him what happened. His response was to keep me and my f***ing dog out of the yard until they were finished. I had to call the police on these people and a few other neighbors had problems with them also. They were cursing so loud a neighbor about 3 or 4 doors down had to ask them to be quiet. One of the contractors came off of the roof and tried to start a fight with him. 1 year later, almost to the day, a truck throws nails in my driveway. I have this all on video. 2 weeks later I find that truck parked right in front of a house getting a roof. Next to the truck is a G.L. Dart sign. Beware this company unless you HATE your neighbors or just don't care who works on your house.

+ 2 moreThey started roof work on the house next to me on 5/28. I called the property management after they left because they left nails and shingles all over my yard. They finally called me and said they would take care of it. 5/29 @ 10:45 am They were picking up some of the debris and left a glass Starbucks coffee bottle in the back along with items they missed. Later that day I mow my lawn and step on a nail. Unsure of what it was, thought it was a rock in my shoe, I didn't look until after dinner. Took off the shoe and saw some blood. turned it over and saw the nail. Took a pic of the pulled nail and sent texted it to Dart @ 8:17 pm. He called me almost immediately afterwards. Told him I stepped on the nail and told him to clean it up. He ends up cursing me out telling me to keep my F****** dog and myself out of the yard until it is done. Another day went by nothing done. I had to get a tetanus shot because of the nail. Today is 5/31 and I have not heard a thing. I am not sure if I should get a lawyer or just the police involved as I now feel that I may have been threatened. This person doesn't care that my and my dog's health are in jeopardy. What else can I do? He's lied to me saying he knocked on my door on Wednesday. My dog would have gone crazy. He also couldn't give me an approximate time so I could check the footage on my security cameras. I have called the police and filed a report. Shortly after the police leave I hear one of the guys on the roof say f****** a****** complained about stepping on a nail and needed to get a tetanus shot. For this reason I will not recommend them and advise others to steer clear from them and all the companies they own.

Description of Work: Our first several meetings and the company's website were very good. The project started off nicely for the first 2 hours and as soon as Greg(owner)left to go to a meeting it went downhill from there. He was suppose to return a few hours later and never did. The team failed to properly label or take note of how the electrical work went together since we knocked down a wall and needed to relocate the switches and outlets. The team of workers on several occassions failed to have necessary equipment like a hammer, a ladder, an air compressor, etc. It became comical after a while. Now we did make an additional change after the wall was knocked down with Greg in agreement of this change. The electrical work was so messed up at this point they had to look at pictures that I took of the wall being knocked down to reference the wires. They didn't know how to get the electric back in working order. Greg blamed us saying the electric was a mess from the beginning of the project instead of accepting the fact that his team lacked skill and knowledge. Greg himself throughout this ordeal lacked professionalism. Another issue was how work was to be completed. In an email we stated that we wanted the work to include boxing in beams with drywall etc. this way it would look completed. Greg wasn't planning on going to that extent. We had to refer back to the emails to prove our point and our expectations. A job that was only suppose to take about 2 days turned into 4-5. Our house could have burnt down the way the electric was put back together after we noticed that multiple outlets were not working. Thankfully my husband is an electrically engineer and caught these issues. He had to demand that a licensed electrician from GL Dart come and fix all these mistakes. Where was Greg in trying to rectify the situation? He never returned to the project to see for himself what was happening. After several phone calls with Greg and excessive amounts of frustration, Greg had the nerve to state that because of the extended days of his workers being at our house he had to charge us more money than initially quoted. Well, you can only image how that sat with my husband. My husband refused and also stated that until all issues were fixed correctly we weren't paying out any more money. |We were so happy that we tested the waters with GL Dart on knocking down a wall and not our entire kitchen remodel. We would never recommend this company!! | Advice to all homeowners make sure everything that a contracting company says they will do is in WRITING. Take all measures possible to avoid misunderstandings and that all those involved are on the same page with the expectations and outcomes.

+ 0 moreWe found a good subcontractor from this company that we use now. Everything they did seemed like they did not want to do it. They were inexpensive in a way they wanted to do it but it was not the right way to be done. It always came down to our fault. It was because they directed everything and not the subcontractor. We had to fight with them quite a bit. We will never work with them again. The quality did not come from them, it came from their subcontractors.

We have a very large over 20,000 square feet facility that required the following replacement items: roof,flooring, gutter repair and painting. In addition, they replaced all flooring and remodeled our shower rooms in the other facility. Every thing went as planned. They did use sub contractors at time but they held them accountable to their work. Greg had his office staff contractors on-site daily or weekly to over see the work. In addition, his in-house staff provided quality work. Last, all of his employee were very friendly and down to earth. I would recommend G.L.Dart for any project you have in mind..

+ 5 moreThe job started off fine, and the quality of the work was variable but acceptable overall. However, after a few months it apparently became low on Dart's priority list, and the pace on the last 20% slowed to a crawl. Deadlines were agreed to, but missed time and again. Because our grant had time constraints, we eventually terminated the contract. We were very happy with the work of some of Dart's subcontractors, less so with others. Also, the main office does not seem to be organized. We would recommend using Dart for smaller jobs rather than large and complex ones (where an knowledgeable foreman is essential), and also asking to see examples of the work of the particular subcontractor Dart proposes to use. With those precautions, there is no reason Dart couldn't do a good (and timely) job for you.
Description of Work: Our community development corporation contracted with Dart to rehab a 1937 brick colonial. It wasn't in bad shape, except that the piping had been stolen, but needed a wide range of TLC. Pipe and HVAC replacement, fresh paint, new electrical fixtures, floor refinishing, construction of a screen porch, re-siding of the garage, porch re-roofing, some windows, insulation, improved drainage -- the gamut. Most of Dart's services, it turned out, ae performed by subcontractors, who on our job ranged from very knowledgeable to teenagers doing the painting.

They also contacted me as the schedule was formulated and supplies are ordered - notifying me as the job began and was completed. Photographs of the roof and chimney were provided from different angles to show the work completed. They are very communicative and fairly priced.
Description of Work: The company partially tore down and rebuilt a crumbling chimney as well as providing addition securing of the chimney. In addition, they repaired damaged roofing and shingles and effectively matched the color and texture of 20 year old shingles.

+ 8 moreA competitive bid included promises of a 1 month completion and persistent oversight of workers, but we rarely saw the job supervisor and it took nearly 5 months with no change in scope of the project. Generally happy with carpentry, but sub-contractors had to be called back several times and included a complete redo of ceilings textures. Many days with no workers on site despite promises of consistent work scheduling. Billing was disputed and later agreed upon, only to be presented with a "final bill" after making all previously agreed upon payments. Sloppy handling of my design choices between general and sub-contractors.
Description of Work: Completed an unfinished basement game-room, bedroom and full bath, including framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, trim and paint. Added egress window to bedroom. Added colored, stamped patio to back yard.
