Universal Windows Direct of Cleveland

The estimate took 3 or 4 hours, which was about 2 hours too long. However, this was the only way to get the price down to an acceptable amount. Don't know who actually pays full price. All of the windows were installed well, except I noticed after they left two of the windows had white marks on them. When the installer came back to make an adjustment to the entry door and give us the touch up paint a couple weeks later, we mentioned to them and they ordered new windows. They came in a couple weeks later, except one of the two were incorrect so they had to come back a second time. Overall things are good; the windows sufficiently block UV rays so the room is noticeably cooler this summer. The odd part is that we got the remaining windows "locked in" at the low price, and I emailed our sales rep about possibly moving forward on some of the remaining windows, but he never emailed back. I guess I will wait until they are slow and need some business.

Had a little bit of a rough start with the provider but I have to say that in the end everything was handled exactly as I would have expected from an A rated company on Angie's list. I would like to commend the owner Joe. He promplty handled a few small concerns I had. He actually made two trips to my home two days in a row to resolve them! I was very impressed. I would highly recommend using Universal Windows Akron to my neighbors and friends. I plan on getting new windows in the future and I most certainly be using them for replacement windows on my home.

The sales representative-- the one and only reason Universal got my business to start is because this man would NOT leave my house. We informed him after an hour of telling him we were not going to sign papers that day, that we had to be somewhere and he still persisted. My husband was in the shower, and he still would not leave. All we wanted was 24 hours to process the information and we could not get it. Every other person we had at the house was willing to give us 24 hours, and guarantee the price for that time. I eventually wore down and signed the papers, and was very concerned I would regret it. The install crew arrived on time and as planned. Due to my work schedule, there was 4 weeks between when Universal got the windows and when we could install. During this time, the install manager failed to acquire the proper permits. The crew was shut down by the builder inspector the first day. I was told when I called and spoke with someone in the office that she ?would call as soon as they got the proper paperwork?. It was not until I explained I had to take time off work and they would need to compensate me for this that someone was willing to make the arrangements and get the permit. The crew arrived the next day, and had to stay until nearly 7pm finishing. The crew was unable to finish that day because a frame window had been cut incorrectly. They did a great job boarding up the window that could not be replaced. Due to my schedule, I could not be here for 2 more weeks. They came out with the new window, and it was a touch too tight and cracked. They were able to leave it installed and seal it to prevent leakage. The following week, they were supposed to return, but the new window did not come in from the factory. The following week, they came out, and the window was cut incorrectly, AGAIN. The following week they came and AGAIN the window was not cut correctly. Finally, 2 weeks later (due to my schedule), they came with a correctly cut window and a free window for my kitchen which had not replaced in this original plan. To their credit, they did not ask for any additional monies from me until the job was fully complete. The crew-- Steve, Joe, Eric and Patrick-- were wonderful, polite, and the saving grace of the whole experience. There was one window in the whole 20 some we purchased that we did not like, and still don?t love. The selection of grain options offered is very limited and nothing matched for this room. It will prevent me from using Windows Direct for any of my sliders or doors in the house. What upset me the most--I changed all my windows from casement windows to double hung. Not once did any one mention there would be unfinished window sills on the inside of the house where the cranks were previously present. I now need to sand and paint EVERY window sill despite spending a large amount of money to have all my windows replaced. Every window in the house needs the sills sanded and painted. I was extremely disappointing to not have a finished product and to need to spend more money to finish the job. It is unlikey I can recommend the company based on this information. I am overall, happy with my windows, and they do look very good on the outside, and was very happy with the install crew. I was very displeased with the sales pitch and would not recommend any of my friends invite this into their home. I was not very happy with the install manager either. He did try to make it better by offering me a free window, but it was a very small window, and far from made up for the 5 days I had to make arrangements to stay home and allow install. I am also extremely unhappy about the need to have all the window sills painted. I am hoping in the future, if there are issues, there will be no complications with my warranty.

I gave them a deposit check of $550 for an August install. They said they would go ahead and order the door, instructed me to call them when I was ready for service. They did not return my call so I proactively called them, said he was out of town and that he would have the installer call me (again, no returned phone call). I then called Joe (owner) again and he said he would call back that day or the next day. I still have yet to hear back from them up to this point.

We have had this company replace all the windows in our home over a two year period. It is nice to hear all the reassurances regarding warranty and post purchase services but you really do not know for sure if you will experience that level of service or value should you need it. When washing the exterior of our windows we found a small crack in the corner of one. We were not sure when this occurred since that area of the window was behind drapes normally. Thinking "here is where we find out just how good the warranty and replacement service is" I called Joe and reported the problem. He reminded me that every window has a label on the upper sash with information as to how it was specifically made. He asked that I photograph and email a photo of that label to him. Three weeks later Joe called and said our new window was ready to be installed. He came that afternoon, popped the cracked window out and installed the new one which fit perfectly. Thanks Joe!! Your follow up service was all you promised it would be !

I have used them a few times now. Their windows are high quality especially with energy savings since they offer triple glass. The windows are much more efficient. The installation took one day to complete.

A manager from the firm contacted me, and my conflict was resolved satisfactorily. I will consider this firm for any future projects.

The workers who came in installed the windows were very knowledgeable, pleasant and also very professional. They did an excellent job and there was no cleanup which meant so much to me after working all day. We love our new windows and doors! I feel like I'm living in a new house!

The installers came and weren't professional. The windows are poor quality. One window had to get additional repair a couple of times because it won't close right. They have also told us that "they don't know what tell us" in regards to some questions about our windows that we had. I was just dissatisfied in general. I would not recommend them at all!

Very professional from the owner,salesman Joe to the installer Terry. All that was promised was delivered. The instaling team were on time and worked through rain and storms. Very satisfed I would have them back and recommend them anytime.

Zero communication from the company once the door was ordered. We had to do all the follow up. I am still waiting for the correct door handle for the inside of the door. We have paid them in full and still waiting to hear from the company when the handle is going to be replaced. The workmanship was very good when they did come and performed the installation. They were very neat and orderly. I still feel that my door would be sitting in the warehouse if I had not continued to call. Every deadline that they gave us, they never fulfilled.

They will replace like 14 windows. They were very professional, they had a lot of good windows, they have a 30 percent financing for 6 month. They did a fine job. The price is competitive.

I was very impressed with the end results. I work in a related industry and see many examples of windows. The quality of this product is superb. They were expertly manufactured and operate flawlessly. The pricing was very competitive. The installers were very conscientious and professional. Net/net: great product, great price, great service.

Two man crew arrived on time, tore out the front entry and garage entry and replaced with new fiberglass doors, installed trim and new Schlage lock sets. Front door got a few scratches in it but Universal promised to send touch up paint. Also upon close inspection, the front door lock was flush at the top but had about a 1/8 inch gap at the bottom and was not seated properly but after a call to customer service, an installer came out and took care of it. Customer service there was very easy to deal with and handled the problems promptly. So far I'm happy with the products and the doors look great.

Universal Windows helped me realize the importance and benefit to their product. They demonstrated their quality and reliability. I have not had them install anything yet, but will be in the near future.

It worked out really good. The service included all the materials and the installation as well.

Window instillation was very quick- approximately 6 hours. Men who did the work not as professional as we would have liked-cussing, smoking outside but they were good at what they did except for window trim which they had to come back to replace.

They did a wonderful job looks like a brand new house

I was told this was an easy one day job on three separate occasions. On the scheduled date of install the installers were 2 hours late due to a personal issue. On the very first window the main installer caught some wood shrapnel to the eye while removing it. He was not wearing safety glasses. This hindered his work and caused them to need to cut the job short and not complete it that day. To his credit he said he would show up first thing in the morning and finish the job. He arrived on time and got right to work and finished the job in 3 additional hours. My main complaint is with the professionalism of the crew. While doing the work on the 2nd floor windows the tools around their waist scratched the paint on my walls below the windows and got excess caulking on the paint. The caulking mostly came off but not the scratches. The first day they cut short, they were rushing to get the windows in the opening so they could finishing the flashing the next day. There was excessive insulating foam splatter on the jamb and dirty hand prints and caulking on some of the windows. Most of it(not all) came off but paint thinner had to be used as well as some of my own elbow grease. I also had some disagreements with the installer. Inside the new casement windows frames are holes for the mounting screws. These holes have separate caps that are used to cover them in the frame after the screw is in place. All the casement windows had them before they installed, but once they were there all the caps were gone. I asked if he was going to put them in. First he said that they were not needed. Then he said sometimes they don't come with any. Then one of the other in installers said he had them all in his belt. He ended up finding them all and placing all the caps in the holes. I just highly doubt that the manufacturer would have an expensive dedicated machine to create all these little sealed caps if they were not intended to actually fill the holes. After they left the 2nd day I found that a few of the handles were on backwards. I switched them out and all was well. I told the installer in passing the next day and his only response was "No". I said ?yes, they were on the wrong side?. He again just said "No". I dropped the conversation. Then after they left , I found a puddle of coffee on my new driveway where their pickup truck had been. I also still found a few nails around the house including 3 in the driveway. I also found a dent in my daughters crib that was not there before they did the installation. I actually love the product itself and the final outcome the windows look very nice as well as the door. Once again, the windows(and door)look good and will perform, the installation was just not as I expected from a nationally franchised company who's salesman stressed that they have the best installers in the business because they install thousands of windows a month (or something to that effect). Next time I will use a smaller window company. Maybe one where the actual owner works on site and cares about the details. To the credit of Universal Windows, I provided this feedback to the company prior to them processing my final payment. Within a few hours they contacted me and we reached an agreement on how to address my concerns. There was no apology (or argument thankfully).

Other than a few minor glitches, everything went well. Dan, the installer, was very courteous and did a very professional job. When cleaning the windows, I found a couple minor imperfections in 2 of the windows, but Dan assured me that a service order would be placed to have the glass replaced. The trim on the outside of the windows looks so much better than the old stuff we had on there and the windows themselves are so much more efficient and classier looking. We went with the triple pane windows and we notcied the first day they were installed that it cut down on the noise and the amount of sunshine beaming through. We would definitely use this company again for what we need in the future.

This provider never showed up for our appointment even though I had confirmed it with Justin the day before. There was no phone call, just a no-show. Too bad that they have such poor salesmanship.

The Sales person that came out answered all my questions and concerns about replacement windows. He was very professional and easy to get along with. After the initial salesman Universal had someone out to measure the windows. Within two weeks time we got our scheduled date and then they were off and running. The installers came in and put down drop cloths all over the house and started replacing the windows. I had a lot of questions along the way and they were more then willing to stop and explain to me my questions. After two days they were completely done and cleaned up inside and out. I would reccomend Universal windows to my friends and family.

They were overpriced. They are kind off very demonstrative. We didn't like these company because he was trying to pushes me into signing the paper right there and then. I would not recommend them.
