The House Surgeon

The job was well done and professional from start to finish. He was responsive to my call and came out to the house within a day or two to look at the job. We discussed the work and he gave me a quote of $300 for the steps and $60 for the railing. When I called him back to confirm the job he came out again within a day or two and completed the steps. He was unable to also do the railing that day but he returned the following work day ( the day after Thanksgiving) and finished. He deducted $25 from the original estimate because he was able to re- use one of the original steps on the deck. He did very good work, was pleasant, professional, and punctual. I would definitely hire him again. He is exactly what I was looking for when I started looking for a handyman.

This was a totally positive experience from start to finish. Mr. Cohen is a complete professional. He answered my calls promptly, and was extremely courteous. The quote I was given was excellent and the work was was carried out perfectly within a few days. I do not believe the work could have been done any better, by anyone. Thank you once again and I will definitely use your services whenever anything comes up that you can do.

They were prompt and friendly. The work was well-done, the price was reasonable and the communication was good.

Prior to contacting "The House Surgeon", I had called several contractors rated high on the Angies List but all of them made excuses not to take on the job, presumably because of the small size of the job (I guess they all wanted only large contracts worth thousands of dollars). Finally I found "The House Surgeon" on Angies' List and to my pleasant surprise, Herschey (the owner, I believe) said he would be glad to take a look and provide an estimate. He came by and explained what he could do, and provided a ballpark estimate. The work was scheduled (though there was a bit of a wait), and the one-man crew did a good job of fixing the porch as well as sealing shut the front side (i.e. drop-off), that had several loose bricks, with cement. There are cracks in the new cement over the damaged porch section, but Herschey had already warned that cracks would be unavoidable without a more expensive replacement of the whole damaged slab. Even with the cracks, I am glad the badly damaged section has been repaired, and I would not hesitate to contact Herschey again for similar jobs in the future.

He did a very good job and had a good price! There was a slight problem but he came back and fixed it and everything has been fine since then!

Very good experience. Mr. Herschey is responsive and could finish the job in two days. With the house Surgeon the service was clean and fast.

After getting the estimate the House Surgeon was able to start work that day, and finished the remainder of the work the next day. They were very friendly and courteous.

They are great I really like them. They are very professional. The price was a little high but they did good quality work.

Herschey advised me over the phone about buying a grab bar and told me the price for coming to the house and installing it would be 75.00. When he came to install it, he knew where would be best to place it in the shower so that I will not only be able to pull myself up from the shower chair, but also so that I can safely get into and out of the shower. It is very securely fastened to the wall, looks good, and has worked well for me so far. I appreciate being able to contact him for small, as well as large jobs, in the future.

The job got more involved that we originally thought and he did more work than he planned but he did not charge me any more. He does not do the work himself, he subcontracts the work but comes out to check and supervise everything. I think he is a really honest guy and is a man of integrity. I will use him again in the future.

I think there was a water leak and the wall paper was falling off and he came right out and fixed it. It was a small job and a lot of people don’t like to get bothered with that. Further he did a good job.

The House Surgeon did a very good job. He had to come back a second time. He did come back, fixed the problem, and I was very satisfied. I also appreciated that he gave an estimate upfront. The price was right. We are very pleased and we would defiently recommend their services.

Herschey Cohen is very professional, along with all his workers. He was honest about what needed to be done and also presented options for my choice. He respected my decisions. He communicated with me every step of the way. I was away from home when they poured the driveway, Herschey called me to tell me they were at my house and when the job was done, and he even stopped by later to make sure everything was ok. I am very happy with the quality of work and I would definitely hire him again for other jobs.

I have an older home (70+ years old) with old plumbing that's not up to code. The size of the bathroom and commode and the placement of the old lead lines and standpipe prevented me from purchasing "off the rack". I received estimates from numerous sources, but by far, Herschey's was the most reasonable and the most forthright with what would be involved. From the onset, he was very clear what would be involved and any potential difficulties he might encounter. He looked for a commode that would fit and found me the best price he could. He was flexible and accommodating to my schedule as I was doing part of the work myself. So he removed the cabinet and old plumbing, had his people repair the wall and then waited until I painted and finished my work. Then he came back and installed everything perfectly. He also replaced a leaking faucet in a washtub and re-plumbed the lines to both the washtub and also the washer. I'm very happy with the work quality and Herschey's professionalism and will not hesitate to hire him again. He also has done some concrete repair on my driveway (a separate report was submitted for that work) and I'm also using him to do some tuckpointing on my chimneys (work yet to be done).

At first I was very impressed with this professional handyman. He was responsive. professional and returned phone calls promptly. Though his pricing was high, I was happy to have a handyman who was on the ball. Over time though he seemed resentful about having to do the work, much of which was very menial. Also, demanding payment, for ongoing work, often before the work was completed. When the work was completed we were underwhelmed by the results. He contracts out most of the work. Nice guy, seems to have the right contacts to get work done quickly, and does respond! Just be very specific about what you want done, and how you want it done. Also, doesn't give itemized receipts, just a total, per job price. '

Contacted him; he came over and looked at what needed to be done and gave estimate. Did work as scheduled.

I called one evening after finding my water heater was leaking. He was one of two companies that answered, out of about 7 I called who had "emergency" or "24 hr" service. He explained what would be involved, quoted a price, and said he could be there the next morning. For the appt, he was running late, but called to let me know (only about 30 min behind). He got right to work and the job was completed in about 2 hrs. The price quoted was the price he charged, and was $150 lower than the other estimate.

House Surgeon is good if you are looking for a fair price and good work. You can obtain better if you choose, but you will pay more. They can carry out the project from start to finish if you want. In our case, we chose to do parts ourselves. This complicated things some but kept our cost down as well. I will have the H.S. again for general repairs on up to the kitchen that we intend to remodel and I would recommend them to a friend. Oh, and they are comfortable working on old houses. This is important if you have an old house like we do.

They were very good when I used them.

I contacted the company and spoke with the owner on a Friday; and explained what i needed done. He was able to set up an appointment with me for the following Monday afternoon. When he thought he might be a little late for our appointment, he called -- a few hours in advance ... i REALLY appreciated that he had consideration for my schedule. As it turns out, he was able to arrive exactly on time. He was pleasant, very professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. I would definitely use the House Surgeon again.

He is professional, efficient and very fast! He is very realiabe and comes when he says he will.

He called on Wednesday and said he would call back. He never called back

He is really a nice guy and helped us a lot. We spent about $1800 on that service. He came in and tried to do what he could and found that he needed to call someone else. He did and he and the other company worked together and basically they tried very hard to make it so they did have to dig up our whole yard. They analyzed the situation well and their analyzation turned out to be correct. The house was built in the 1960?s and of course we did not know what it was and they found that there was a clog in the pipe going out to the sewage system. They analyzed how far they could go and the dug there under our floor in the garage. They dug out the cement and got the piece of pipe and presented me with a gigantic root that was in the pipe. They put in a new piece of pipe and a new axis point into the outlet pipe, so you can get to from the outside, without digging through the garage. They closed up the hole and did a very nice job and if you look at the floor in the garage you can?t even tell that they did anything. Everything works fine and they fixed it quickly. I also had them clear the drain from the outside and brought out some roots. He was right on target with what he told us the possible prices would be. He also took care of a sump pump for us and was right on with the price and did it very promptly. When they were here, you could not tell that he was here. He came when I called and got the other company in the same day and came back 3 days later when they discovered that they could not just clear the root and get it out. He was here when he said he would and the work got done within a week.
