I was very disappointed. The agent was on time. However, he was very rude and unprofessional. I am in my mid thirties but my father happened to be over visiting that particular day. The sales agent treated me, the paying customer as a child and continued to make jokes to my father about "kids these days" while ignore me. When he would bother to respond to a question he usually did so in a insulting manner. In fact he spoke down to me throughout the process. The price he gave me was over 2x as high as the next closes quote. In fact, I had more then one other company offer to put in a whole new heating/cooling system for less then the price he gave me. The company I selected is installing a unit for $12,000 less then his price! I have used the company in the past for simple plumbing needs (clogged drain) and they were timely and professional. I will not use them or recommend them for anything beyond that.
Description of Work: I phoned Blind and Sons for a quote on installing an cooling unit in a 1929 tudor with hot water heat and no cooling system.

It was so efficient and well coordinated. They will pay you for referrals. I have referred 4 people to them who purchased. The pricing was fair. Everything was done the way they said it would be done!

I think their price was actually pretty good. They have always been very responsive. Their customer care is excellent. The only thing that we had issues with them was the furnace we bought was Trane and we had 5 service calls to them and they came out and never charged me for that, but they had a tough time diagnosing the issues. Their ability of doing work is very good. I would definitely use them again in the future too.
Description of Work: Blind and Sons installed a furnace and gave us a quote on rewiring the electrical in our house in February of this year.

Ducts were left with lots of dust and fibers. I can still reach in and pull out globs of dust and junk. I complained to the company and was told my salesman would call me back. He never did. I called a number of time and was finally told they would send the duct cleaner back out, but they never did.

The technician did not have the part he needed and it was not available in the local warehouse so he drove to Hudson, got the correct part just before they closed and returned to install it so we would have heat for the evening.

I have been using them for the past 10 years. You have to sit on them to make sure they do the job right; otherwise they are a good company. You need to make sure they understand exactly what you want done. The people are polite and they try to help you out as much as they can. But it's not like a normal top operation. Because it's not a normal top operation, you end up with levels of management that sometimes disagree on how they are going to handle it. They came out when they said they would.
Description of Work: I used the service of Blind and Sons for the church I'm in charge of. I had them replace the circulating pump in February.

The estimate was little higher than I thought. He was trying to sell extra services. I didn't follow through with them. The quote was $1300 for putting four of three-wire outlets and putting a switch. He was adding on by putting some sort of unknown device in the basement. It was just a bunch of extra device that were not needed. The person who came was very nice and considerate. He thoroughly explained everything. The service was very pleasant. They are very neat. They explain everything.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Blind and Sons for electrical work in our house. I got a bid from them approximately a month ago.

I was very impressed by their professionalism. They measured our home to determine the size of furnace that we needed, and discussed the different types of furnaces, water heater and air conditioner that would fit our needs. They showed us their licenses and permits up front and all of their employees are bonded. The weather was very bad on the day we had scheduled the installation, but they showed up on time and installed everything in one day. The workers didn't even stop to have lunch! They had to cut new pipe to make everything work, they cleaned everything up when they were done and removed our old furnace, water heater and air conditioner. They showed us how to program the thermostat to maximize our energy usage and save money. Everything worked when they were done. We were very pleased with the entire project and would definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone. They are professionals.

Initially contacted Blind and Son's at the Home and Garden Show at the IX center when we saw the Generac generator in their display. Checked up on them in Angie's List before signing for the work Feb. 15th. The generator arrived while Jason, the electrician, was preparing for it and was placed as close to where I wanted it as legally possible (cannot place under windows, need some airflow around it). In the afternoon while the electrician finished his work, the gas line installer (sorry, forgot his name) arrived and installed the gas line to the generator, and the two outlets and valves for my basement heater. There was a little problem with the electrical box for the generator. The switch on it is supposed to turn on and off automatically once the generator starts. It turned on OK, but would not turn off properly. Jason said the box was a new model and he would have to do some research why this is happening. He had a class about installing this new box the next day. He would ask the Generac people what they thought the problem was. Jason came back about a week later and worked on the box but did not solve the problem. Jason did come back about a week after that and did solve the problem. All Blind and Sons people, salesman, electrician, and the fellow doing the gas lines had business cards. A nice touch, that way you're sure you?re dealing with the right people. Another Angie's List listed company installed the main control box for us a year or two ago. It took them quite a while to untangle the wire mess on our "electrical wall". Guess they got in a hurry when things were running late. Jason redid some of the wiring to make it safer, this slowed him down a bit, but he got things corrected. The fellow doing the gas lines noticed a gas line that went out of the back of the basement seemingly to nowhere. As a safety measure, he disconnected the mystery gasline. These little delays or extras did not add anything to the bill! Job was done at the price quoted.
Description of Work: Delivered and installed new Generac 7kw CorePower standby generator with 8 breaker control box. Installed two new gas outlets in basement with shut off valves so I could use a portable heater there.

It was excellent. We got several quotes and they were the most technically correct. They really knew what they were doing. We interviewed 4 other companies and their price was excellent. They were very professional. We would recommend them. Their price was very competitive and we would definitely use them again.

In Jan 2009 I replaced a 20+ year old furnace for a 96% efficient two-stage Trane. At that time I also bought a higher efficiency AC unit + water heater + whole house humidifier. The price for them all was quite good at the time. I buy the $180/year inspection package for both furnace and AC. They come out 2x per year plus I get 10% off future visits and parts (replacement filters are not cheap). Today's visit was the furnace checkup. They arrived in the 2nd half of the alloted time but still ontime. The agent was friendly, clean, polite, professional. At the end I asked him to show me (again) how to set the programmable thermostat, which he did. As I read other reviews about Blind & Sons I have to agree with the common themes. The cost notations (their stuff is very costly when compared to other service providers and I've submitted other reports for same). But the staff are very professional, polite, seem knowledgeable and leave your house clean is also true.

We placed a call in to Blind and Sons for lack of heat in one of the two zones our home has. The first serviceman came out, released water from pipes and thought the problem might be a corroded elbow. He said I would need plumbing men (from Blind & Sons) to come out and fix because he was a heating person. He did sell us the heating and cooling package that would also save us money on service calls etc... So we paid $235.00 (180.00 for the package and 55.00 for the service call, that would have been 110.00). I asked him about the discount that their company is claiming to offer "in all departments" as stated on Angies list, he said he knew nothing about discounts nor did he inquire. I even showed him the web page on Angie's List. The next day, someone else from Blind and Sons came out and gave us an estimate of $1320.00. I called Wiese Plumbing and Heating and they fixed the problem, which turned out to be the thermostat controller, for $110.00.
Description of Work: Service call/diagnostic- pipes were inspected.

His results were great. He dealt with us in a very professional, personable manner. He answered my questions very well. he had good clean-up, but there was a tad bit of residue left over in the work space. It was an all-around great service though. I would definitely recommend them.

We declined to have the work done at that time. We checked with another provider about prices for the parts they said needed to be replaced. The company we consulted gave us lower prices on all the parts, including the capacitor that Blind said would cost $120, but they could give us a little discount d/t our service agreement. It was still over $100. The other company gave us a price of $12, had no idea why Blind's price was so high. "A capacitor is a capacitor, unless theirs is made of gold". Obviously, we had the other company do the work. It cost $130 for everything, including the service call charge.
Description of Work: We called them to do the annual furnace maintenance per the service agreement. The tech arrived very late in the time frame given, then wanted to do $230 more work just before dinner time. Said it would cost us more for a service call if he had to come back.

Had someone come out to inspect furnace for winter. Very punctual and professional guy demonstrated cracked heat exchanger to my wife. Had a sales guy come out to estimate new furnace. I felt he was a little pushy and did not like that I was going to get other estimates. Completely bad-mouthed his competition by name, I thought was not very professional. Did not use because of price, the salesperson, and other reviews of the company.

The plumber they sent said that we needed a whole new toilet--that it wouldn't be possible to replace the inner workings with out breaking it. The toilet is about 50 years old. We called another company who had no doubt that he could fix the inner workings and did so fairly quickly.

As far as the plumbing, they never showed up. I took off early from work on a Friday for the scheduled plumbing service. They called me later that afternoon and said that no one would be able to get to my area yet that day, could they roll it over to Saturday, which I reluctantly agreed to. I had planned to go to an event in Medina that Saturday, but stayed home for the delayed service call to get the plumbing taken care of. They called again, late Saturday afternoon while I was vacuuming and didn't hear the phone so they left a message on my answering machine, the same thing they said Friday and if it was okay they would roll it over to Monday. When I tried calling back to tell them it was not okay, I couldn't get through, I got a recording that said something to the effect of all customer service representatives are currently busy . . . I tried three times and by the time I got through, it was to their answering service where I left a message that no, they could not roll it over to Monday, I would call another plumber. Joyce called me back on Monday and said she didn't know what happened and apologized and said she would get someone there the next day any time I wanted. Sorry, two no-shows are more than enough for me and my trust isn't easily regained. She sent me a $50 gift card to use toward any of their services, which I won't use. The note enclosed was a pre-typed half page form letter to Dear customer. . . we are trying to improve on our service . . . If I were in the service industry (and I have been) I would certainly hope to not need a form letter for service blunders. The plumbing problem has since been repaired quite promptly by another plumber who's 8 miles away, not 40. Blind left a message last week for me to call and schedule my fall furnace service. My call back will be to square up on any of the $90 the $15/month hasn't covered, I won't use the other half of their HVAC service.
Description of Work: They did perform my spring A/C service ($90), which I was fine with and signed up for their $15/month option to cover both the spring A/C and fall furnace check with included a free plumbing and free electrical inspection. I posted a positive report for their HVAC service and called them a month or so later to come out for a plumbing problem I was having with the pressure regulator on the main water line that was making horrendous noise. . .

I did not renew my contract for the very first time since 2001. I was disappointed to the response I got when needing help with the hot water tank, found a local plumber to fix my hot water tank and another to check my furnace/AC
Description of Work: Blind & sons installed my furnace/AC back in 2001; I had a service contract every year; I also added electrical and plumbing at one point. The AC/Furnace inspections were ok...it just seemed that one guy would say i needed something and then the next guy said everything was great. The electrical division was excellent...the young man who did my work was professional and knowledgable. The plumbing division I was disappointed with. The young man came in to check my Sump pump and ended up removing a piece that was needed . So I had to call another plumber who had to charge me for a piece that was "missing". I contacted Blind & sons to let them know about the discrepancy about the piece and sent them my receipt. I was offered an additional 6 month extension on my service contract - which was one visit. Then recently my hot water tank pilot was out and I called them to see if someone could come out and check it.....would be 24-48-72 hrs to get someone out. I asked what about the contract that I have and the others I had in the past and I have been with you since 2000. Didn't matter; also, when I called back the people answering the phones were not on the same track...someone had the call, someone had no note of it, it was very confusing.

They answered my call professionally and were able to dispatch a service tech the same day. Their advertised price is $99 to snake any drain and that is what I was charged. The faucet was leaking and was not able to be shut off with the shut offs under the kitchen sink. There was a very slow drip underneath the sink as well. I was quoted a price of well over $1,000 to fix all three minor problems. I was without a car that day, so I was not able to meet the technician at the house and had to rely on his honesty and expertise to identify the problem and fix it. The next day, I hand-tightened the loose pipe underneath the sink and replaced the faucet and bad shut-off valve, both for under $50. After the over-inflated estimate, I didn't trust him to camera my line for fear that he may "find" (read cause) another problem.
Description of Work: The service tech gave me an estimate on snaking a bathtub drain that was running slowly and to fix a kitchen faucet that was leaking at an apartment house that I own. They snaked the drain but I declined to have them fix the faucet as the estimate was too expensive. He offered to camera my drains for free, but I declined this as well.
