Out of the three guys, he was the only one that said I couldn't convert an oil furnace to a natural gas furnace. He pointed out a few options. He was very informative. He probably spent an hour with me. It was just very thorough. He was just more thorough than the other two. He just took a little extra time and care. I just appreciated that. I thought the price was reasonable for the work I was looking at doing. I would use him again.

$40 wasted on an unreasonable estimate. Please look elsewhere. They are a scam. We needed to replace our hot water heater. My wife's coworker suggested them. I later learned everyone who refers a friend gets a cash reward. This explains their success. They came out and told me it'd be $1200 to replace the hot water heater. I thought that was high. I asked what unit they would be installing and he didn't know. He went out to his truck to find out. I looked up the unit on the Internet and it retailed at several big box stores for $345. I asked him for an itemized list of how much they were charging for the unit vs labor. He said he couldn't do that. I told him the water heater was only $345 and showed him on my computer. He went out to his truck again and called someone about the itemized list. He came back and said the water heater was $700 and the labor was $500. I asked how long the job took. He said about 2 hours. Taking tax into account, that's still over $200 an hour to put it in. They charged me $40 for the estimate and left. I ended up calling another plumber who put it in for $650 total. Blind must rely on naive people and referrals. Avoid.

They do heating and air, plumbing, and electrical. I contracted to get the roof done, then the sewer line went bad. It was a very good experience. They are professional, do plumbing, electrical, and I bought my heating and cooling system from them. Every service person that they have sent here has been excellent in terms of their personality, excellence, and skill.

They were really good, they were nice people, they had very professional young men doing the service work on my furnace. They did a furnace evaluation and they did a whole house air duct cleaning and they gave me a really good price and good service. They did everything they said they would do. In fact, the guy was so good that I even called the company and left a message to the owner of the company and told him that the guy did such a fabulous job and really represented his company very well. The owner of the company actually called me back and left me a message I think and said "thanks, this is the kind of feedback that we really appreciate and strive for." They are very credible and honest. They have integrity and they were competitive on their pricing. They do other variety of different services around the house. I will continue to use this provider again in the future.

They are very good; all of their men who have come out here have been excellent. They are a very big company. As we have a contract with them, we don't pay for the checkups, only if they service something, we pay a $65 service charge. The people who come out here are very polite, and they are very nice people to do business with. We've been using them for years, and we will be using them again.
Description of Work: We use Blind & Sons for our plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. They were here about a week ago to check the furnace. We have a contract with them, and they come out every so often to make sure that everything is working properly. In the summer, they come out to check the air conditioning system.

Overall, it went very well. Although the cost was a little bit higher than I expected, the new furnace will save a lot in gas and electricity. I am very pleased with the whole process.
Description of Work: In late December, I had Blind & Sons come out to service my furnace. The technician found two major things needed to be replaced fro $700. I decided instead, to replace the furnace with a very high efficiency one. The estimator came out the next day and quoted me several furnaces and prices. I selected a very high efficiency Trane furnace. The installers arrived on time, completed the job in about 5 hours and cleaned up everything.

I had the misfortune of buying the Blind annual service agreement and experienced approximately ten service visits and untold phone conversations with Blind between about Oct 2010 to Oct 2011. The first visit was all electrical, I spent about $900. The work was performed to my satisfaction but neighbors have speculated that I was overcharged; I have never compared elsewhere. Every point of contact thereafter was subsequently worse and worse. I do not have documentation at my disposal as I write this, but I have saved every invoice showing dates, work performed, and prices charged. Blind does require the customer to sign a service agreement before work is commenced, which renders it difficult to dispute their prices later, as I read it. One set of four plumbing visits involved a nightmare experience in repairing a simple plastic faucet head. The plumbers were anything but responsive or prompt, and it took numerous calls to headquarters to get satisfaction. This required me to reschedule so many hours at work, in order to be home for Blind's compound errors, that it became a joke at my office. In fairness to Blind I should pont out that I did request cancellation of my annual service agreement and they did reimburse me. The second to the last interaction spanned about six months and involved a "free" (service agreement) HVAC check, which cost me about $800. I was manipulated into believing my family was in immenent danger if urgent safety repairs were not made. I have since had the parts priced out by two licensed competitors for significanlty less. In one instance, Blind charged over $400 for a part one company says is routinely sold to consumers for about $19. One other part was questionable, one contractor said they would ever install that part on this system. Ironically, later another Blind representative said the same thing (*see below). The original inspection visit and approximately $750 "emergency repair" resulted in the AC motor fan blade being damaged by Blind, who later stated that they put in the wrong "rescue" motor, throwing my entire sytem out of wack. The fan blade was finally replaced after several more visits and numerous more calls and several more interruptions in my work schedule. From that point on, I started having trouble with the system not cooling. When Blind made the trouble call visit around October 2011, they said I needed an entirely new heating and air conditioning system. They attributed the work to the system not being cleaned; *and questioning some work that was already performed. When I showed the representative the previous work order with his name on it, he stated that it was not him but a different employee with the same name who could no longer be reached. I asked why I was charged $80 for cleaning during the first visit if, according to his claim, he thought that the system looked as if it had not been cleaned in 12 years. He said that he was "not permitted" to answer my question but recommended a sales visit to quote an entirely new HVAC system. When pressed, he said that he thought a new system would run around $8,000-$9,000 and it was urgently required. I paid $50 for work performed that day to "test" they system. So I had a licenced competitor survey the work performed two days later. He stated that he could not ethically test my HVAC system for cooling until the temperature returned below 68 degrees for three consecutive days per state regulation; and he couldn't understand how Blind could have claimed to have checked the system two days earlier under similar conditions. Blind's representative wants me to trust them and spend $8-9K on a new HVAC system. The only remedy I have been offered is that if I "trust" them and install a new system, they "might" refund or apply some of the money already spent. That is not the same as an acknowledgement with a refund check. Buyer Beware.
Description of Work: 1 visit to install electrical wiring and fixtures costing approximately $900. 4 visits to repair one tiny plastic faucet knob costing more in aggravation than dollars spent. 4 visits to perform free annual service contract HVAC inspection, then conduct "emergency" repairs, and then fix a motor fan blade broken during the "repairs," total cost about $750. 1 visit to inspect the HVAC again and then recommend total replacement, cost of visit $55.

We've purchased a Trane heat pump setup in 2009 with an extended service. During the mid summer 2011 I noticed no cold air coming out of the duct. When called to schedule the service, I was told I would have to pay $100 diagnostic fee and they were unable to verify my service plan. After a long conversation with their rep, I was advised to call Trane and deal with them directly. Well, Trane sent me back to the original installer. After 3 weeks of multiple phone calls the service appointment was scheduled and no one showed up! When I called back, I was told no one was available at home and a voice message was left. I was at the house a whole day waiting for the tech. The following week, the tech finally came in and replaced the evaporator coil free of charge.A total of $9k was paid for the Trane setup. I expected a more professional service, after one pays 9 grand! We are currently looking for a contractor to install a radiant heating system and Blind and Sons are definitely not on my list.

Response from Blind And Sons LLC
Blind and Sons sold the Trane system in 2009 to the previous home owner. The customer purchased the home and the equipment in the home after the system was installed. We are listed as the install company on the warranty which was registered to the previous home owner. There was confusion verifying the warranty under the new home owners name. We researched the situation and found the warranty under the previous owner. The good news is that the warranty can be transferred from the previous home owner to the new home owner. We apologize if there was any confusion on the day of the appointment. As a convenience to our customers, we contact each customer before dispatching a technician to their home. When we were able to reach the customer, we dispatched the technician and replaced the defective part at no charge.

Please see above, I do not recommend using Blind and Sons based on the last two plus visits performed by them.
Description of Work: This house had been under contract with Blind and Sons for many years and as time has gone by, Blind and Sons has gotten bigger and bigger to the point that they are too big for their britches... I had a LOUSY last two visits and since my contract was up I did not renew. They do a lot of advertising and a lot of drumming up business now, and do everything to get you in a yearly maintenence contract rather than make sure that your heating and a/c is in top operating order. Personally I think they need to get their priorities in order. Additionally they had missed one appointment without calling and wasted my entire day, a considerable loss of time. They had given me a $25 sorry credit on my next visit which I felt was a slap in the face, after I sent a rather upset letter to them they bumped it to $100 but in my opinion still not enough and with little remorse. This house had been given their trust for years and when I got another contractor in here, they pointed out that part of my problem was that the A.C. unit was not the proper size/properly installed and explained exactly why it was partially failing - which was that the unit was undersized and allowed too much flow to go around the unit, on top of the fact the the wires for low and high fan speed were backwards and we had a lot better flow after that had been corrected. Also, for a yearly maintenance program, the sheet metal boxhousing was rusting out and nothing was ever said by their crew. Some air was blowing out throught the rust holes making it very inefficient. Blind and Sons used to be an honerable name, but in my opinion, they struck out three times and I must recommend that you avoid them and I will not be using them in the future. I sincerely think they are busy enough that they don't have time to care about the quality or the customer anymore.

The technician was not focused on his work. I found out that he had other things to do. He left his job and also left his tools behind. I had to call the company for them to come back and get the tools. He was pushy. He tried to sell me a new furnace and air conditioner when our air conditioner was only four or five years old. I did not like that at all. He was not very friendly. Their price was fair but the quality of work was not very good. Their responsiveness and punctuality was okay. He was not professional as he was off on another world somewhere. I will not hire them back again.

Original estimate for installations was $969. Installer was told that underground gas line was already installed. Though original estimate shows gas line was to be installed. Once the installed found out the gas line was not in yet he called the home office. Now the price went up to over $1900! He offered a "Service Partner Plan" to reduce 10%, but the plan would cost. $180, thus I would save $10. I had to help him since he had no one with him and no one to call to support him. I didn't mind helping, I rather enjoyed it. I did have to go to Home Depot to get some things we didn't have when we ran into snags, a bit more of an expense. When all was done the final bill was $1952, and I paid $180 for the service contract. As you see I did not get y 10% discount. I called the company about this and was referred to the accounting department. where I got an answering machine. I did not get a return call. I am reluctant to use the service contract after this, and reading this companies reviews on furnace repair and similar appliance repair (not as good as installation). I had them install because the gas line material is not sold to the public. Otherwise I would have done the job myself. In hindsight, I should have bought black gas line and a way to protect it underground and saved me a bunch of money. Blind and Sons are great at installations, and from a previous experience, do a little extra to make sure the job is right.
Description of Work: Run underground gas line approx. 30 ft and 10 feet within house from house to garage in trench already dug. And install valves at ends. Install protective piping around areas above ground outside house and garage (going into buildings). Install gas line for gas stove about 4 feet long.
