About us

The Fence Guy is a small, family owned business that has been in operation since 2008, and has been in the fence installation trade since 1986. ***We do NOT have sales people, YOUR ESTIMATE IS DONE BY AN INSTALLATION EXPERT. Every Time.*** The concept behind this is that you get what you want, the first time, every time. As it should be. **We NEVER TAKE A DEPOSIT ON JOBS** The simple concept behind this is we do not want your money until: (a)We have earned it, and (b) We have made the client happy with their purchase. We offer ALL styles of fence including privacy, picket, shadowbox, scalloped, convexed, split-rail, horse-fence, farm-fence, chain-link, ornamental aluminum and steel, guard-rail, barrier fence and just about any other type of containment available. We also offer REPAIR WORK on ALL styles of fences and gates. We work with Cedar and Pressure-Treated lumber and we buy from local suppliers, hand-picking your material for YOU. We offer MILITARY and SERVICE PROVIDER(Fire/Medic and Law Enforcement) discounts We offer SENIOR discounts **WE ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING APPROXIMATELY 2-3 WEEKS OUT ON RESIDENTIAL INSTALLATIONS, weather permitting.** **NOTE----- There have been reviews that have stated that we use sub-standard materials that warp. ANY lumber is susceptible to warpage, at any time. At the time of the sale, the customer is given several choices and price points accordingly. If you buy the least expensive product, you cannot expect it to perform like a top of the line product. We can and do warranty all of our workmanship/craftsmanship, but we have very little quality control over lumber beyond what we see when we purchase it. That being said, we will stand behind what we install within reason, based on the choices the customer makes at the time of the sale. Obviously, we want our customers to be happy with their purchase and their choice in us as their contractor! Keith---740-438-9135

He was very flexible with the fence design having to be changed from the original plan (due to utilities). He adjusted the price as well. Very quick and good job. The fence looks great and I don't have to chase my son around the neighborhood anymore. :)

Great work, unfortunately due to a lot of rain, install dates weren't always able to be as quoted. But the workmanship was great.

I contacted Keith and some others for estimates in early May. While I'm sure the other companies would have done a fine job, I am really glad I chose "The Fence Guy." Here's a few reasons why: 1) I really liked his low-key approach. He obviously keeps his overhead expenses low (no brochures, website, or sales staff) and this translates to savings for his customers. 2) Was originally thinking of vinyl fencing, to keep maintenance to a minimum. Keith went through the pros and cons of vinyl vs. wood and explained why he thought a cedar fence was better suited for my property. I was impressed with this, since he could have easily sold me the more expensive product. He also gave me some tips for maintaining the fence so that it would not have to be treated every year. 3) I had several questions along with way (some of which were a bit neurotic) . . . he was prompt in returning calls or texts and thoroughly addressing my questions. And he never made me feel like I had asked something dumb! 4) He and his crew were prompt, made minimum mess, cleaned up after themselves and were careful not to trample foilage. They worked hard and steadily both days they were here. Not an easy feat today, as it was nearly 90 degrees. 5) The job was completed about 3 weeks after he gave me the estimate (even though there were a few storms that threatened to put a crimp in the plans). 6) The fence is simply gorgeous! The quality of the material is obvious, and the workmanship superb. 7) I could probably go on, but you get the point. He's great!

Response from The Fence Guy
Asa a company owner, we can only get to people as quickly as humanly possible. Again, we are a SMALL, family owned business and our work rating speaks for itself. We strive to keep everyone as happy as possible, but we didn't even get to this estimate before he left us a bad review. Again, our rating speaks for itself.

Kevin Saunders is the owner/operator. He has been fantastic. We have work scheduled to be done by him. He's had a few setbacks and we've had a few setbacks. On every end it has been a very, very good experience. He made an appointment with us for the next day after I called him. He came out right when he said he would be there. He worked up the quote at the location on the spot.

Keith was very prompt in providing the initial estimate and in communicating with me pre-project regarding how it would look and any other questions. Once we hired him, there were some weather delays and delays in communication but nothing major and I certainly don't blame him for any weather delays. However, once the utilities were marked and dates were set, he was very prompt and the job was done well and timely. I would absolutely recommend him to a friend, and already have, and would use his services again if needed. He was by far the best price we found and the quality is not lacking at all! I am very pleased with job.

Good experience. Keith was responsive, came out and gave an estimate the same (saturday) I called him, and pulled our old fence and set posts within a week of the estimate. Then weather hit (late Dec.) and no progress could be made. Obviously, the company can't do anything about it...but with 2 rowdy dogs, I had to really work on my patience. In retrospect, Keith could have pushed the install, and I could have ended up with a crappy product. He stayed in touch with me, and as soon as it was dry enough, our fence was up in one day.

Keith came the day after I requested an estimate, and right off the bat gave me a great price. Keith was honest and up front about his schedule so I didn't feel we had any surprises when there was a weather delay due to the late snow. Keith mapped out the fence with us before digging any posts so we were comfortable with where it was going. His crew came to dig and they were very personable and professional. I was impressed that they had eaten an early lunch before showing up the first day so they could work through uninterrupted. They were definitely not the type to take breaks and disappear for hours. They were very hardworking. There was a small miscommunication on the placement of a few posts (my fault really) after they were already in (too close to my kids' swingset) and when I called Keith he was very understanding and nice about taking them out and redigging them. We offered to pay for the extra time it took but he said it hardly took any time and there was no charge for it. Most companies say that they want their clients to be happy, but very few actually follow through on it without raising a stink. Very impressive. Keith came back the final day with his crew to do the scalloping on the fence. Again, they all work very efficiently but it's also very well built. Keith wanted to make sure we did a last walk-through with him before paying him to make sure everything met our expectations, which it did. The fence looks gorgeous and I've had several people already ask for his info. I highly recommend him.

Great product/price: Keith did a great job on our fence. The estimate we received was much more reasonable than previous estimates we had received. Keith was very thorough and explained the installation process, so there were no surprises. The finished fence looks even better than I anticipated and we are so happy with it. Good communication: We had to wait a little while for installation due to spring weather (a lot of snow and rain), so I kept in contact with Keith in regards to scheduling. If I left a message, he would return my call promptly and give me an update. Flexible: Keith was flexible with us in regards to the placement of our fence. We knew approximately where we wanted it, but we weren't sure on one side of the house how far the fence should extend. We ended up deciding the morning that Keith was there for installation and he talked us through it. He was very easy to work with and did a great job for us! Suggestions for future clients: This is in regards to any fence company you would choose. Do a little research yourself...I measured my yard before Keith's crew came out to install. I knew exactly where I thought the property line was and where the fence should be. That way, when Keith measured, I felt very comfortable with his placement. I think it made the process smoother to be involved in this part of the process. Keith was able to talk through everything with me as we were making the post marks around the yard. Overall: We would highly recommend Keith (The Fence Guy). We had a great experience with him and are very pleased with our fence.

I had recently bought a new puppy and needed a gate to keep my sanity and to keep the the dog in the yard. I called the Fence Guy and he came the same day to give me an estimate. He realized I needed the gate as soon as possible and called the supplier to order parts before he left my house. He called when the parts came and installed the gate the next day. I was extremely pleased with the service and his concern for my need for immediate service. I would use him again and highly recommend this company to anyone needing a gate or fence.

Keith was great. I acquired several estimates and as mentioned by other reviewers, Keith's estimate was approximately 60% of the other quotes. After a few minor delays due to weather (building in the winter is risky business), he came out and installed all the posts in one day. A week later he came back and installed all the stringers and pickets, along with the gate. Both days he was very fast and efficient. When he was done, he cleaned up, took payment, and hit the road for the next job I'm sure! We love the fence. The quality is great and as I mentioned, it was installed quickly. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Keith did a great job and was much lower than the others we had provide quotes. .The Fence Guy came on time for the estimate, discussed the issues we had that were unique, discussed the types of wood, styles of fence and the advantages of each. We made our choice and he gave us a price. He explained how he determined that price. He asked us to have the lot surveyed and call him when it was complete. The desired date was chosen and he was there. The weather delayed him a day or two. That was the only hitch. We found him hard working, and willing to answer questions.
Description of Work: The Fence Guy put up a six foot high privacy fence around the backyard of a medium sized backyard with three gates -- one on either side of the house and one in the back. One of the gates was a double wide to allow a large riding mower through.

We talked to numerous contractors, many of whom would likely have been able to do the job, but we found Keith to be the easiest to communicate with - he thoroughly answered our questions without making us feel bad for asking, like some do. We were able to talk through every detail of the job and get on the same page about what we expected. His price was very reasonable and he kept us up to date on scheduling. The fence looks very good and they didn't leave any big messes or anything. We are hopeful and confident that what appears to be very good workmanship will last for many, many years to come. We're also hopeful to have him come back sometime in the next few years to take out another stretch of chain link fence to match the new fence. While we were a bit nervous about building something that neighbors would be disappointed in - we're on a corner - we've gotten a lot of compliments and it seems to fit in well.
Description of Work: We had a capped fence built in our backyard with 2 gates, using treated lumber and cedar boards. Keith also built pergolas above the 2 gates. He also made one of the panels removable for future access to the backyard up to 10'.

I had estimated the materials needed and their costs prior to contacting fence contractors. I talked to several contractors, and based upon their phone responses, narrowed my search down to three companies. One contractor indicated on the second phonecall he could not complete the work this fall. The two remaining contractors came out, walked the property with me and reviewed my materials list. Keith The Fence Guy was very specific with his questions and comments. He described in great detail how he would accomplish the project, the actual makeup of each fence component he would build, and his recommendations on very minor changes to my plans. He listened to and courteously and professionally answered completely all of my questions. I received two written quotes for the project. The Fence Guys bid was not the lowest, but it was the most complete bid package and I felt more comfortable with Keith.. We signed a contract and after agreement on the materials list I selected and purchased the materials. The Fence Guys performed all labor for installation and completion of the fencing. Keith was on the site during every work day. The work crewmen he brought on-site were always courteous and professional. Several changes were discussed and made during the construction phase without difficulty and at no additional cost. We are completely satisfied with the work, professionalism and knowledge of The Fence Guy team . The completed project far exceeded our expectations. .
Description of Work: Installed 240 ft of Gothic picket fence and two 10ft gates west entrance of property. Installed 1000 ft of 48" non climable horse fence, 17 turnbuckles, and two 4ft gates east and north property. ,

Our fence along the property line in our backyard got blown over in a storm. I had several companies come and give me estimates and we decided to go with Keith-The Fence Guy. I'm so glad we did. Because of the damage around central Ohio due to the storm he couldn't do our job for a few weeks. I told him I was disappointed because I didn't like having the old fence laying in the yard. He showed up the next day and took it away. The communication was great and we are very pleased with our beautiful new fence. I would recommend Keith-The Fence Guy to anyone interested in having a fence built.

It never went, he stood us up.
Description of Work: The principal is very nice over the phone. But that seems to be all. I contacted him to get an estimate for a combination or repair and upgrade of another section. He appeared very interested in getting the work, and would be "right over". A few hours later I was informed it would be a delay due to a trailer flat tire. It's been more than a week, several phone messages, and one email through this system. Nothing. Not even a response to let me know why he became a no-show. I'm going to have to start the search again, I've lost a good amount of time. If he decides to show, perhaps he's pretty good. But who knows.

This company's estimate was 35% lower than the other estimate I received, for the exact same job. The Fence Guy/Pickens Fence did a wonderful job and were totally professional. They had to put up with my angry neighbor bothering them each day and were completely kind and professional with her and completed the job smoothly. They dug fence holes with a minimum of mess, did not disturb our paver patio at all, even though the fence holes were right next to it. The finished fence line is perfectly vertically perfectly straight/level, they used a string line to slope the top to match the level of the ground and it looks perfect. Can totally tell it was a professinally built fence. The gate is very sturdy, and the gate hardware looks very nice. They constructed the gate right next to our brick home without needing to drill into the house, although I would have been fine if that was required, they put the gate without needing to drill the house wall. Also they took especial care to put the fence boards super close together for max privacy, there is no space between the boards. We recommend this company for a professional job while giving the best value for our money.

We had just adopted a new dog and I contacted The Fence Guy after seeing a feature on him in the August Angie's List magazine. He came the next day to look at the job and gave me an estimate about a week later. The estimate was very reasonable and he told me they would start in a couple weeks, as soon as they finished up some other jobs. Over a month went by and we heard nothing so I called him. He told me he needed to put together a double crew for tear out and would start later that week or mid following week. I told him we would have a landscaper there one day that week but that it would only affect a small part of the project. Another 2 weeks goes by with nothing and after several more miscommunications (and several of the excuses similar to ones given to other reviewers), a crew came, almost 2 months after our initial contact, and from another fence company. Apparently, he told this contractor to "just take the job. I don't have time to deal with it!" The other company, Pickens Fence, finished the job yesterday, and did a very professional job. Response to the response: The landscapers were only there on 2 days that did not coincide with when the Fence Guy TOLD me that they would be starting ( I never said I would call when the landscapers were done since the Fence Guy told me they would be starting that week or the next, hence the miscommunication), and the landscaping, again, was only on a small part of the whole project. There was not "30 feet of additional fence" as stated. The additional work was about $25 as quoted by the company that actually did the job and I did offer to pay him anything above and beyond what he thought was fair for the work completed. And yes, I was happy with the work that was done by Pickens Fence.
Description of Work: Beyond the initial measuring and estimate, a few phone calls (mostly initiated by me), and one other visit to re-familiarize himself with the job )since it had been so long), nothing was done by The Fence Guy.

Response from The Fence Guy
First, there are several inaccuracies in this review. I did not just "turn over" the job to another contractor, stating that I didn't have time to deal with it, that is categorically untrue, it was in fact, my brother, who works for me and with me a large amount of the time during the summer months. He owns and operates a fence company as well and we help each other during the busiest periods of the season. Second, the ONLY mis-communications were in that when the Customer landscape crew was finished with their project, we were not notified, therefore, how were we supposed to know when we were clear to begin work? We are not in business to destroy other peoples hard work, so it was the customers responsibility to let us know when we could begin. It should also be mentioned that there were, in fact, weather delays in getting this job completed as well. We simply cannot and will not work in a muddy yard, further damaging someones already new landscaping. Again, this is not an excuse, its just what happened. That being said, there are no excuses, we do the absolute best we can with what we have to work with. I also think its quite odd that the Customer failed to mention that she added approximately 30 feet of additional fence to the project(right side, facing the house), that was not paid for. I assume she is happy with her product, because I am not finding any indication otherwise in the comments above. Again, we do our very best to provide service as quickly as possible to our customers, but we are human. This is not an excuse, as stated above, its just a fact. Even though the box checked above for work completed is checked "n/a", we consider this our job because we are a family run business and we do often work together.
