The Handyman

Jeff returned my phone call promptly and we set a date for the work to be done. On the morning of the appointment, Jeff called to say he would be a little delayed since his van door was frozen. He was only about 15 minutes late and determined right away that my light needed to have a ballast replaced. He left to purchase the replacement and returned in a short time and replaced the ballast. The light is now working great again. I have used The Handyman for several years and am always very pleased with his work, his professionalism, his promptness as well as his fair price. I have recommended him to friends as well. Always does a great job?!

He did a great job framing in the new skylight after it was installed. He covered up the visible nails with PVC boards and quarter round so it all looked "finished". In half bathroom, took out old caulk on stone vanity top and back splash, cleaned it and re-caulked with silicone. Other repairs were fairly small. Overall, he takes the time to assess the needs of a repair, discusses the options, and completes it in a reasonable amount of time.

I would never use this person based upon his lack of respect for my personal time. We are all busy dude, but you should still return someone's phone call!

He wasn't prepared for the estimate when he came out. I asked for a ballpark figure and he said around $350, but would get back with us for a write up. We didn't hear anything back for about a week and I called to leave a message. When they finally phone us back, it was the secretary who quoted $690! I understand it was a rough estimate previously, but this was nearly double! She said it was $590 just for the labor! He also failed to provide us with another estimate we requested when he came out to our home. I just didn't understand that exorbitant amount of money for labor when I felt this was a smaller job.

I got a flyer in the mail for this business and decided to give them a call since they offered free estimates. Initially I was a little hesitant since I couldn't find them in the phone book, but I found out later that the business is fairly new, him and his wife just started it early this year. I needed a small hole in a wall in my bathroom fixed, a ceiling fan installed in the dining room and there was this awful water leak in the basement from a shut off valve. Ernest was there within 1 day of me calling. Since there was an issue with water, he scheduled me as soon as possible given that water problems can escalate. Right away this showed me that he runs his business with the best interest of customers in mind. Everything turned out lovely, he really took the time to make the bathroom wall look good as new, even if it meant taking a little longer than he first said it would. I really appreciated the detail. The fan works great, and there is no longer a mini lake in my basement! I have more jobs to be done in the future and will definitely be calling Ernest again.
