My neighbor had two trees cut down that were close to my power and cable drop. Upon coming home, I had to find out for myself that Tomco Tree Service hit the cable drop and ripped the anchor along with part of the siding off my house. This company uses an answering service to take all calls, which made if very difficult to get a hold of them. I got a call from John, who immediately told me there was no way they were responsible. After I told him exactly what had happened, his response was, and I quote "a dead tree branch must have fallen on it before we got there." After a week of denying the damage, I had to call someone in to fix it myself and John would no longer return my calls. Use this company at your own risk.

They took down two large trees in our neighbors yard, but used our yard to access it WITHOUT our permission. They destroyed our yard, one of our gardens, broke limbs in out pear tree and cut down our bush separating the yards without permission. When we called to voice our frustrations the owner was extremely rude. They never apologized for destroying our yard or thanked us for using it (even though they never asked) to complete the job at our neighbors. My neighbor came over to apologize and even offered to pay for the damage, which he should have never of had to do. A good company or anyone with basic respect for others would of handled it professionally and asked permission, apologized for and fixed damages, and thanked us for letting them use our yard to do a job next door. I am amazed they are able to stay in business with the lack of respect for people and property they she showed to us.

This was the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor working on our home. The salesman gave us a date by which the tree would be removed, which was missed by weeks. When I asked when they were planning on coming out, the salesman told us they were behind because of rain (although it had not rained). The owner and crew showed up to cut the tree down with no notice (salesman promised notice would be given 1 day in advance), and proceeded to tell me the job was sold at too low of a cost and that he should just leave. When I returned from work I found that my fence was damaged in numerous places, my landscape lights were smashed and my utility wires were ty-wraped together. I asked the owner to remove the ty-wraps and he refused. The story goes on and on, but in short my experience was a disaster. In the age of the internet there is no reason that this company is still in business. I did not do my homework because we had major life events going on at the same time we needed this tree removed. Unfortunately, we paid the price. Whatever you do, do not use this company.

The quality of the basic work was good, and I have no complaints. I have had experience in the past from other companies who did not grind the stump properly and had to return to finish the job. Hauled away all the stump debris as well and left none behind. The price was very reasonable, and that was important to us as it was a large tree that was starting to cause problems for us. My complaints are as follows: Difficult to contact and slow to respond. Promptly showed up for the estimate but were incredibly hard to reach to schedule the work. Once we agreed to the quote, it was a few weeks before the job was done. I will admit that they were delayed due to rain, but it would have been nice to have someone follow up with an estimate on when the work would be done. They basically just showed up one day and took the tree down. We asked for the hardwood to be left behind for firewood. This was left in very large and heavy, nearly unmanageable cuts of wood and was placed right up against my neighbor's fence making it incredibly hard to move or cut into smaller pieces without damaging their property. We were also informed by another neighbor that they continually came onto his property and even took dirt from his yard even after he approached them and asked them not to do so. Our neighbor was very kind to us by letting them drive their truck on part of his property, and it is truly a shame that they responded so disrespectfully. If you need a tree taken down on the cheap, and you don't care about service, you probably won't mind using this company. However, there are better tree services in the area that are highly recommended. I will use one of these the next time. We received better service from the company that the Illuminating Co. hired to take down a tree that was interfering with the power lines. I wish I knew who they were!

I just want to warn customers that this company removed a tree from near my home and then the owner came back to grind the stump. His truck exploded in my yard due to a leaking gasline and burned down 2 other trees and melted my underground sprinkler system. He got a new truck the next day. I had a forensic done on his truck proving his liability. His insurance claimed it as an act of God. I got stuck for >$10,000.00 damage. My insurance cancelled me and I was redlined as a high risk homemowner for 5 years. I tried to deal with them but they would never return any calls. Being licensed , bonded and insured means nothing for the customer. Unethical liars. It gives me great pleasure to warn any potential customers away. Any questions please contact me. I have pictures and paperwork to prove it.

John, the young estimator, came out on 6/10, reviewed the service to be performed, 1 tree removal, 1 tree trimmed, and 1 gum tree removal w/ stump grind and removed. He was willing to match the estimate received from 2 others at the same time. As advertised in yellow pages, was going to give me the veterans and senior discount since my husband was 61 and a fellow vet.Tried calling him several times over the next few days, he told me that he quit and to talk to the owner, who would honor the quote. Called the owner twice and left message, Finally got a call and was told would appear on 6/23. Explained only wanted the gum tree out and stump and not the other trees for now. On 6/23, he appeared and said the work would be $650.00 I said no, be1cuse your contractor, John said he would meet the price of other estimates. Showed him the other estimates, detailing the gum tree work. I said to him only $300.00 not $650. If you are sticking to $650, get in your vehicles and drive away.He changed the invoice and said we would do it for that price.Work was completed, John told me that we could do the work. Work was completed and then told me would have to return to do the stump at additional cost of $150. What about my discount? That is not what was on the invoice. He returned on Sat. 6/25 Called me and said I am going to run late and can you have cash instead so I don't have to charge you tax.? Upon arrival, I asked are you going to place plywood down due to the past 2 days of rain? He said no, It won't be too bad on the lawn. . Machine was several thousand lbs. After competition made a huge mess including the marks in the lawn. Upon loading the machine, we were talking some talk and he was telling me about this job in which a lady paid allot of money to complete, Then he told me the lady asked him to" f*** her in the a**" I was kinda shock and he said by my face I guess that was an inappropriate remark to make. My husband was only a few feet away, weeding. He drove away. I did not tell my husband until 3 days later becase I knew he would deck him.

I have used Tomco Tree before. John gave me a very competitive quote on the work. John and crew did a very good job performing the work. We did need to have him come back and do additional stump grinding (had left ~50% of oak stump in ground). The only issue I had was that John did not call to schedule the work. He and the crew showed up a couple days after I agreed to the estimate. I would have preferred to know they were coming so that I could have been home while the work was being done.

Let me preface this review by stating that John Tomco and Tomco tree had originally removed oak tree and ground stump (approximately April 2010). They did a good job (but communication seemed to be an issue then - showed up to do work without communicating to me). I should have known!! Several months later, when doing some trenching in the yard for a patio project (reason tree was removed in first place) we encountered a large section of roots/stump that prevented the trench from being completed. I found myself in a bind as electricians were scheduled to do work in trench 2 days after trench completed. Anyway, I called John Tomco and asked him if he could possibly get some one over that evening or next day. He suggested he would have his son come over that evening (Monday), he also stated that he may have to charge me (I did not immediately agree to a charge because area we found roots in was same as where stump should have been ground originally). Anyway, waited for son to show that evening - he did not (nor did he call to tell me he was not coming). I called John next morning, he gave an excuse that he lost the note that he wrote my address/contact info on. I gave it to him again and he said he would check things out at lunch. I left work to be at home. John did not show (or call), At 4:00 that same afternoon, I called again to find out what was going on. John mentioned that he was going to go out in the evening and would come over. He reiterated he would need to chage me. I agreed to a $75 fee, he said he would call his son and send him over. Needless to say, his son or John did not showm nor did they call. I know I was asking a lot for such a quick turnaround, but if you are not interested in the job - say so. Don't lead a client on and not show. I eventually rented stump grinder myself to get job done.

Our experience with TOMCO was terrible. We were closing on our new home where this tree was being cut on a Wednesday. We asked them to wait until the closing was done on Wednesday morning before cutting down the tree. TOMCO called us on Monday to ask if we minded if he cut it down on Monday or Tuesday b/c "he would be in the area". We told him that we did not want the tree cut down until after closing. He then called the seller of the house to ask him if he minded if he did it before Wednesday. The seller told him that he should not cut it down before closing per our request. When I talked to the seller on the morning of closing, he said that TOMCO had come on Tuesday and cut the tree down. Not only had he cut the tree down, but he had taken the wood with him when we specifically asked him not to do so. We wanted the wood for a fire pit that we will have in the back yard. When I talked to TOMCO on the Saturday after closing, he claims that my wife told him that he could cut down the tree on Monday and that we did not want the fire wood (and that the tree was rotten anyway). I told him that when he came to collect the money from me that he had better have the wood with him. He had 5 (fairly good sized) logs on the back of his truck. He tried to get me to not take the logs, and to not have him cut the wood for me. I told him that we could do that if he wanted to renegotiate the price. He left the wood and cut it into firewood pieces (without splitting the wood) after arguing over it for several minutes. I would definitely not use TOMCO for any services again.
Description of Work: Tomco was SUPPOSED to cut down a tree in our backyard and a large branch in our front yard and leave the tree for firewood for us in cut up pieces. Instead they cut down both of these things and took all of the firewood with them.

Tomko was quick to respond to my call with a visit to produce an estimate. There was a several week delay after I gave the o.k. for them to perform the service, and I was disappointed that they never called to say when they would be doing the work. I was surprised to come home and find the work had been done. Overall the work seems fine, but I would have liked to know they were coming.
