Our old steel pressure tank sprung a leak on Friday of Labor Day Weekend 2021. Cory Herr very kindly offered to replace the tank the next day, Saturday, at 9 AM; otherwise, we would have no water until Tuesday. Cory came out fully prepared and replaced the tank with a new fiberglass version. Two hours later we were back in business. He also checked the health of the pump and helped me replace an inline water filter. I am very happy with the work!

I looked at Angies List for local well and pump service providers and found that Max Herr Well and Pump had a great rating. I found that the rating was well deserved. Kyle did an excellent job. He responded quickly to my inquiry, scheduled an appointment, showed up in a timely fashion, assessed the problem quickly and installed a new water tank. The work was done efficiently and professionally. Kyle answered my questions and helped me to understand what the problem was - the bladder in the water tank had ruptured. Max Herr Well and Pump is at the top of my list of all time favorite service providers!
Description of Work: I needed to have my well water system checked as the water pump was coming on immediately upon running water and the pump was intermittently turning on even when no water was being run. I was concerned that my water pump would burn out.

Their original work was excellent, underbidding a great plumber who wanted to include landscaping and other things at over double the price that they quoted.Went well, defective pump gauge was replaced. No problem with well pressure. They came out less than an hour after I called them. Could not ask for better service.
Description of Work: Pump gauge indicated pressure on jet pump was way too high (80 psi). They installed the original pump years ago after they replaced a leaky well line and raised the well out of the ground.

He came back with his crew the very next morning, replaced the pump and tank and took away the old pump and tank. Thank you so much! Price was reasonable compared to any quote from a master plumber/ professional excavator.
Description of Work: Out of water due to our jet pump burned out, pressure gauge stuck. Mr. Herr came out same day, diagnosed the problem. Our holding tank was bad. He suggested putting in a submersible pump, as well as replacing the tank.

I called Max Herr and four other companies on a Saturday. All of them say they have 24 hour emergency service on Angie's List. Max Herr called back immediately. I have not heard back from the others. They recommended against weekend repairs saying that it would be too expensive and that the repairs can wait until Monday. On Monday, they showed up at the promised time. They replaced the sump pump. They did a good, clean job.

We had three contractors evaluate our pressure and iron issues - 2 plumbers and 1 well and pump contractor. All three contractors used a process of elimination that started with the pressure tank. Plumber #1 performed diagnostic procedures and concluded the pressure tank was fine, then moved on to assessing the well pump and condition of the well itself. Based on the thick, orange sludge that had formed on our water filter, Plumber #1 theorized sediment had built up in our well to the point that the well pump was drawing sediment instead of clear water. The recommendation was to raise the the pump to an area of clear water. As the pump was almost 15 years old and had possibly been bringing up sediment, we thought it made sense to also replace the well pump. Estimate for the job was around $1,600. Before spending that kind of money, we decided to seek the expertise of a well expert. We wanted someone to assess the condition of the well, perhaps comparing the original depth of the well and flow rates to the current figures. We contacted Max Herr for this purpose. Communication was excellent with everyone, from the owner, to the office staff, and to the field technician. Arrangements were quickly made and then were altered to accommodate a pet emergency - I really appreciated that. Tony arrived on time and asked to see the filter I had saved for him. He stated that the filter would have more of a sandy texture if it were in fact drawing from the bottom of the well. That made sense to me, given that the well report shows 40 feet of sand and then another 42 feet of sandstone. I was surprised when Tony also asked to see the pressure tank but boy am I glad he did. He performed the same procedure as plumber #1, shutting off power to the well and draining the pressure tank. Just as I was wondering why he was duplicating the plumbers work, he tipped the tank bank and forth, noting that water was still sloshing around inside the tank. This apparently is an indication that the bladder is not working properly. I have no idea whether plumber #1 performed the "tip test." Tony did a great job explaining how everything was supposed to work and I found his conclusion to be rational and well reasoned. He wrote up a detailed estimate to replace the pressure tank. As I now had two very different opinions, I brought in another plumber to evaluate the situation. Plumber #2 also concluded that the pressure tank was faulty. In the end, I hired plumber #2, but only because I have a boatload of plumbing projects to do. If not for the folks at Max Herr, I would have spent $1,600 replacing a well pump when in fact I needed a new pressure tank. When the well pump finally does go, I will be sure to contact Max Herr to replace it.
Description of Work: We were having trouble with inconsistent water pressure and higher than normal iron levels. Max Herr was one of three contractors we brought in to evaluate the situation.

No problems. Very impressed with Kyle's knowledge and advice. He was fare in his pricing and even advised us that while we didn't necessarily need a new tank, a larger tank would cut down on the number of times the pump would generate and kick up the water in the well, ultimately cutting down on the number of times we'd have to change the filter. So far, he's been true to his word on this point. He was on time and the men he brought here to do the work where a welcome change from some of the workmen we'd had around here, very considerate. The job was finished in the time frame he estimated.
Description of Work: New pump, switch and tank installed for well. Well was cleaned through a three part process including scrubbing, chlorinating and clearing the well.
