The demolition of old patio went as planned. The coloring, pouring, stamping and accent stain went as planned. We had some problems with the sealer which did not have anything to do with the application but with the product itself. Max and his crew came out numerous times to make sure it was perfect. Most impressive was the fact that they kept coming back to get it right long after they were paid in full. Max and his team are great. I would recommend them to my friends, family and neighbors.
Description of Work: Demolished and removed old concrete patio, expanded new patio to double the size of the old one, colored the concrete, poured and stamped the concrete; added accent stain and then sealed concrete.

Initial work completed late in season. Pattern stamping and concrete work went well. Noticed white/grey residue on patio which increasingly grew until covered a significant portion of patio. Assumed it was ice due rain/snow at the time. In early spring looked closer and notified company owner who came to investigate and correct. Numerous attempts to correct by removing using xylene and resealing with new solution did not correct. Brown patio still has grey residue covering good portion. Last contact with business was last winter when they said they would contact me in the spring. I recently sent the owner an email without any response.

They were unable to do the entire job at the same time, so the steps were done in September and the basement wall was done in January. The steps were done early to accommodate our needs in September. Had we been forewarned about how much dirt and dust would generated in this project, we could have covered our boxes, and especially items that were not in boxes. Several things were changed from the original estimate as needed. An original plan to run drain tile to the street was scrapped because of street drainage problems. We are especially pleased with the design of the steps.
Description of Work: Replaced front steps, and the entrance pad to the garage. They redesigned and built steps to the back door and patio. Removed and replaced 21 linear feet of foundation wall. Wall removed to footer. Rebar doweled into footer new block. Grouted block cells along two walls for foundation reinforcing.

I gave them an A rating overall, even though there could be some improvement on their part regarding communication. In dealing with the other two contractors, I am thinking this is just the nature of the beast when it comes to concrete contractors. Otherwise they did a great job, were polite and very personable during the entire project. Cleaned up afterwards and was conscientious of transporting the concrete from the street (which was some distance) to not leave ruts in the yard or a mess on the driveway.

Max gave me a reasonable estimate and I hired him for the job. They told me it would be one to two weeks later before they could start. About a week later, Max contacted me and said they would be out in two or three days depending on the weather. They showed up promptly on the day they specified and began their work. Most of the work was completed in one day in a very professional manner and the results looked excellent. I was pleased the the results and timely manner of work and would use this company again.
Description of Work: I had a brick walkway with some surrounding concrete at my office that was beginning to crack and break up. I called several concrete companies for estimates. Max with Midwest Masonry came and gave me an estimate along with some suggestions on how to repair the area. I decided to replace all of the bricks with concrete only

The supporting wall under the rear of the garage had bowed a couple of inches at one corner, which had caused the garage floor to crack and heave. We solicited three estimates. The three companies suggested different approaches, with the cost ranging from $2,100 to $7,500. We preferred the simplest solution, proposed by Midwest Masonry, which was just to repair the wall and repour the floor. But because the estimates varied so widely, we hired a structural engineer (through Angie's List) to assess the extent of the problem. The presence of hairline cracks in the wall did not convince Max that total replacement was necessary, and he was very reluctant to make us pay for more work than we actually needed. The engineer's final report, however, included an assessment of the soil condition. To his credit, Max was more than willing to consider this additional information, and he agreed that we needed to redo the footer and supporting wall as well as the floor. We really appreciated his integrity and collaborative attitude. The process went smoothly, and the results are most satisfactory. Our only quibble is that the crew left a bit of concrete splatter on the kitchen door and on the garage entrance trim and some concrete smear on the asphalt driveway, which cannot be removed easily.

I contacted the company towards the end of February for an estimate on rebuilding a porch with brick or concrete which was provided on a Saturday afternoon. I only spoke with the person on the phone during the estimate as i was working at the time. He said he understood the needs and would get an estimate out to me within a day. No estimate came. A week later, I called and Max swore he sent the estimate and said he would send it again once he was back at the office. Two days later, it showed up. The estimate was fine...rather as expected for the size of the job. I said, the estimate was good and I asked how soon he could complete the work. I got no response. I called a week later and got the reply...."Oh..I don't know you wanted to go to contract on the job". I wasn't sure what else I needed to say to have him understand that. So, he told me that he was finishing a big job the next day and could start my porch work within a couple of days. I said that was great and asked about what I needed to do. He said, he would call with information. He never called. I have been sending messages ever since and get no response. Meanwhile, my home owners association wants to fine me 10$ a day until the work is finished.

I can't imagine a home improvement project turning out better than our project with Midwest Masonry. Max, the owner, worked with us through every detail, was punctual and professional, and his crew mirrored these same characteristics. They cleaned up after each step in the process, adhered to the project schedule, and exhibited genuine enthusiasm for working with us to improve the front of our house. This was by far the best home improvement investment we have made in nine years.
Description of Work: Our front walkway led up to a small cement stoop at our front door, which didn't provide much room to enter our house, let alone socialize. We decided to expand the stoop to a front porch/patio that would allow us to sit, socialize and enjoy the front area of our home. After receiving three estimates, we contracted with Midwest Masonry because of their punctuality, professionalism and reasonable pricing. Based upon the company's suggestions, we ended up replacing and extending the walkway and stoop, and building a front patio area using stamped and stained concrete. The price included tearing out the old walkway and stoop, and the building of the new walkway, front patio and stoop using stamped and stained concrete. We selected the color Sahara (#242)from the Solomon Dry Pigment Ready Mix Color Card with a charcoal release. The stamp was ashlar slate.

I called and scheduled an estimate. The first appointment that I made, no one showed up. After they were an hour late I called the office and left a message. I received a return phone call shortly afterward and was told that something had come up and they were not going to be able to make it to my house. At that time I scheduled another estimate. For the second appointment, Max showed up on time. He looked at my porch and told me that he would email me an estimate within a few days. I never received the estimate. After about 3 weeks I called and left a message asking where my estimate was - I thought that perhaps Max had written down my email address wrong. I never received a return phone call or an estimate. It was been 4 weeks since I met with Max.

I have a stamped concrete walkway and steps that I wanted estimates to have sealed. I had the dimensions and called several companies to have them give me estimates. It was not expected to be a "big" project and several companies gave me what I considered to be really high estimates. When I spoke with Max McClellan, the owner of Midwest Masonry, he asked me several questions about the project. When I told him that I had just powerwashed the walkway he told me "if I could powerwash it I had enough skills to do the project myself" and he proceeded to explain to me what products to buy, where to buy them, and how to apply them. I became convinced that I COULD do this project myself. I so appreciate the fact that Max was kind enough to give me the information that could save me a lot of money. Should I ever have a larger project and need the services of Midwest Masonry I will definitely call Max!

Mortar was replace/built up and then the entire surface area was covered with esthetic outer layer. Foundation is repaired and better looking than before. You cannot see the concrete blocks anymore due to the covering. Much improved and functional! Also, he cut and removed concrete spilled next to the sidewalk when the house was built. Grass would no longer grow in this spot. Looking green now!

Emailed Midwest Masonry to see if they would give us a quote on removing the concrete steps and landing up to the side door and put in a new one. Our house is 50 years old and the concrete was starting to crumble along the 2 steps. They came out in the time frame they said they would, within the week, and emailed us a proposal. We accepted and orginally they said they could get to our job within a couple of weeks. They actually got to it in about a week's time or less. They completed the job in a day, were punctual and did a great job cleaning up afterward. They also pointed out our steps were not according to code and would need to make them equal height. The new steps and landing look very nice. I would use Midwest Masonry again.

We contacted two contractors to bid on taking care of our sinking porch. Max called back and scheduled time to come out for a bid. He told us at that time that he was very busy, so we knew that with his good reputation, he was "in demand". It also meant that we had to be a little patient in coordinating schedules. Max proposed a different approach that we liked. He got back to us within several days with an initial bid. We came up with a modification, and ended up with three different bids overall. Once we decided on our approach, we let Max know that we would be ready to do the work within the next several weeks. It took about three weeks to work out a date, but once the work started, Max and his team did a fabulous job. They were extremely professional and competent in the work that they did. And they were much faster than we expected! They also worked around an expensive tree that was right in front of our porch. There was some extra work that needed to be done to accommodate the new porch and cover over our basement window. Max arranged for these specialists to come in and take care of the work that same day and the next. All the work was done within the price estimate that we had agreed to. We are very happy with the results!
Description of Work: Front porch was sinking to one side, and pulling the roof and gutter out of alignment. The concrete porch and supporting stone post for the roof was torn out, the concrete was replaced, and the porch extended across the front of the house. The post holding up the roof was also replaced.
