SELBY APPLIANCE REPAIR

I called Selby on Thursday afternoon, 5/29/14 after reading the great reviews on Angie's List. He promptly returned my call within 5 minutes. We scheduled an appointment on Monday, 6/2/14. Selby McGowan arrived on time and was very polite. I showed him the dryer and what I thought the problem was and he directly went to place a 'makeshift' knob/dial on the dryer so we could immediately use it again to dry our clothes. He told me that he would need to order a new dial and he would call to schedule a followup appointment to install it. He would not accept payment during the initial visit, even though he got our dryer working again. He told me we could pay him when he returned to complete the job. Selby called on Wednesday morning (two days later) and asked if he could come back out that day to complete the job as he had the new dial. We scheduled a time and he arrived within 5 minutes of that time. He promptly replaced the dial and made sure the dryer was working properly. He accepted our personal check for the total amount of $64.00 ($50.00 service call + $14.00 for the part / dial). I highly recommend Selby Appliance Repair and will use him in the future. I called Selby to come out and repair a washing machine, I had to cancel due to a scheduling conflict and reschedule. Then a friend looked at the washer and "said" he repaired it so I cancelled Selby. Of course because I did not rely on a professional to fix my problem it wasn't actually fixed. Even though I was embarassed and thought Selby might decline scheduling with me a third time, his service call price is great and previously he had done work for a friend who recommended him so I called him anyways figuring he is a professional and would probably want the business. I expected him to say "no thanks", but I did not expect him to reprimand me for having a friend look at the problem and tell me more than once "you probably made the problem worse". Even though I felt bad and wanted to give him the business, I was so uncomfortable by the reprimand that I said no thanks and found someone else to repair my washer.

Mr. McGowan and his assistant accurately diagnosed the problem with my refrigerator, ordered the part and installed it the following morning. They were professional, punctual and got the job done for far less than I had anticipated!

When I got home, he was in the midst of informing my wife of what parts we needed for the repair, but if no work was done there would still be a $50 service fee. He was clean, neat, and explained things well. He went ahead and told me what parts we needed and where to get it. He did charge us the $50. We basically paid for him just for information. It was my fault I did not ask him how much he would have charged for the repair. I feel like he was looking out for me to save the most money, but I am not sure.

Kitchen aide refused to supply part to Selby saying that we had to use a kitchen aide servicer. So Selby did not charge a service fee even though he made the service call and found out what was needed. Very professional and we appreciated not being charged even though we agreed to a service call.they have a good policy.

Selby and his assistant showed up very quickly after I called. They were extremely nice, and VERY reasonably priced. it was a simple fix, and they were honest and charged accordingly. I will always call Selby for any appliance problem!

Selby returned my initial phone call on the same day and we made an appointment for repair. He appeared promptly and the repair was made as promised for a very reasonable price. I felt confident in his experience and would recommend his services.

Very business-like, replaced the compressor relays with a 3-in-1 relay, helped reassemble the fridge and was done. Very brief service call but fixed the problem. I thought price was fairly reasonable compared to another quote I got that day, but I really haven't investigated cost further since then. Overall very happy to get fridge up & working and appreciated availability to repair so quickly on a Saturday afternoon.

Took two trips because dryer was Korean made and used non-standard belt, which I ordered off Internet. No additional charge for second trip. Also adjusted my furnace humidifier at no charge.

A few days later Selby came back. He installed the new light sensor, and the dryer has been working fine ever since. I would recommend Selby to anyone with no reservations. He and his partner were very professional and very courteous. I could not have asked for any more!

When the dishwasher was pumping water all over the kitchen, the first person we thought of after the water was shut off was Selby. We called him the next morning and he came within a day (our schedule had problems, not his). Within a few minutes he knew what the problem was. He had to order a part (the dishwasher is at least 15 years old) and called as soon as it came in. The repair was quick and now it runs perfectly. This is the third appliance he has fixed for us (two different houses) in the last year and a half. His rates are always reasonable and he is very professional in his work. We will definitely call Selby Appliance Repair again, but I hope it isn't any time soon!

As stated above, he easily could of sold us something that we did not need. He was courteous and very friendly and pleasant. He did an honest assessment of our problem and had us up and running in about 5 minutes. He could of sold us something that we did not need but did not and even explained that if we have problems in the future just how easy of a fix it would be. I couldn't be more happy with the service.

He did an excellent job. He did exactly what he was going to do, he came back and replaced it. He's a good guy.

Best appliance service I have ever experienced. The gentlemen not only did a neat and professional job, they also explained the problem to me in a clear and concise manner.

I told my wife that his diagnosis sounded a little "fishy", pay him his service call "I'll figure out something else." He said the motor would be about $110 total bill to replace including labor about $230. That seemed a little high since a new dryer was advertised for $362 @ Best Buy. I decided to do this myself, I found my local Home Appliance Repair Parts shop had a motor for $82, so I picked it up and changed the motor myself, a relatively easy repair new motor in ready to go in about 40 minutes. Powered up the dryer, STILL NOTHING, NOW I'M OUT $82 AND STILL NO DRYER! My fault I should have tested the motor first before I bought the new motor. I went ahead & ran the tests on the old motor, both the run & start leads. Both should be between 2.4 to 3.6 ohms and although on the high side of the range it checked out ok on both. So I then turned my attention to the timer that I had my suspicions about from the beginning. I tested the timer assembly, ohm'd out the circuits, guess what yep the timer was shot! My problem was the Tech did not ohm out the motor properly or not at all, leads 4&5 and 4&6 and knowledge of the range to know if the motor is good or bad. And no mention of testing the timer was made by the Tech even through I protested his diagnosis that the problem was in the motor. Bottom line the service call & parts may have been a little on the high side of a going rate, but that's not my issue. I would have gladly paid it had the problem been diagnosed properly. I do not make my living repairing appliances, I expect those that do make proper diagnosis, mistakes happen believe me I know first hand. But this was basic electricity & testing which I don't believe were followed.

We needed a repair to the washer in our new house, the only thing not covered by our home warranty. Checking Angie's List we were happy to see that Selby's Appliance fixed washing machines since we were so happy with the way they repaired the refrigerator in our previous house. We called and were able to get the appointment when we requested it. He arrived on time and within a few minutes he diagnosed the problem and had it fixed just as quickly. His rate was extremely reasonable and he was very professional. It made us glad that we opted against the additional cost to add the washer to the home warranty!

They came the same day even though they had to kind of force their schedule. I told him he didn't have to come the same day but he decided it was important enough so he came. Very professional and courteous. Said it was an old freezer that couldn't be repaired or recharged since it had R-12 in it. Gave us our options. I will use them again for appliance work.

Everything went great - very professional. He explained what the problem was, went out to his truck, got the parts and fixed it in no time. He was a little later than we expected - but that happens and he called to let us know he was on his way. We were very pleased with the service he provided and would definitely contact him again.

My plumber and I found a leak in a pipe coming out of the furnace while he was installing a hot water heater. I called Selbey right away, and he came within the hour! This meant that I had three repair people -- the plumber and the two men from Selbey -- in the basement at hte same time. But everyone was really nice and friendly, and the repairs were done right away. They were honest, did not try to sell me a new furnace (even though mine is from the 1980s), and repaired it quickly and in a friendly way, and told me they wanted me to get as much life as possible from my old (but working!) furnace. Very nice, honest, competent guys. I'd use them again in a second and highly recommend them.

We scheduled a day and time. He called right before he came and asked if the time was convenient. He came to the house, introduced himself and went straight to work. He corrected everything, no parts needed The cost ended up being for a service call. He was very professional and very courteous.

I called on a Monday and by Thursday mid-day it was fixed. He returned my message within an hour and we scheduled for him to come out in 2 days (Wednesday). Selby arrived promptly and quickly went to work diagnosing the issue. Since the dryer itself ran but no heat was ever provided it did not surprise me that he declared the heating element had died on my 7 year old electric dryer. He showed me where one of the coils on the element was broken. He made a call and obtained the price ($49.50) and asked whether I wanted to move forward (Yes). He came out the next day with the replacement and made the repair. The cost for both service calls was $65 total. He and a 'helper' were at my home for about an hour total so I felt that figure was highly reasonable. He left me with the broken part. He was very professional however I felt he was a little condescending to me as a woman (hence the "B" for professionalism). It was enough to note but definitely not enough to say I would not recommend him.

Arrived promptly at scheduled 2nd visit. I had to order a part. Did a great job. Was professional, informative and prompt. Would use again!!!!!
