I contacted Beam several times about fixing my roof. He came out and looked at it and gave a verbal estimate and said he’d drop off paperwork the next day. He never did. I called 3 times asking if he would and each time he said he would tomorrow. Eventually, I stopped trying. Worst part is, he lives around the corner from me! It’s not like the job was miles and miles away. I ended up hiring a different company to do the work.

I have to admit, when we were trying to coordinate a date for the job, there were times I got a little frustrated at how difficult it was to get in touch with Dan. But, once he and his crew came out to do the job, I had a new understanding and appreciation for why he can be such a hard man to reach. See, he doesn't sub these jobs out. He's on the roof working just as hard as his crew. I was also quite impressed with how well they all seemed to work together. They each knew their jobs, and Dan didn't have to constantly direct them on what to do or where to go. If one of the guys saw someone else was doing a job that required an extra set of hands, they took the initiative and helped each other out without so much as a word. No project ever goes as smoothly as it's supposed to. Like anyone else would, someone on Dan's crew encountered one or two problems that caused them to spend a little more time to make sure it was done right. What impressed me was, despite their initiative, they knew when it was time to call Dan over to make sure they were doing it right. No short cuts. Another worker on another crew could have just as easily come up with a shoddy, half-hearted solution to the problem when their boss wasn't looking. Not these guys. Also, his quote was very reasonable. I would gladly do business with Beam Construction again, and I would gladly recommend him to anyone. If you go with him, just be patient if it takes a while to get a hold of him. The results and the price will be worth the wait.
Description of Work: Dan Beam and his crew replaced my roof.

Based on the rating on Angie's List and the proximity, I called Dan to come out and take a look at a leak we've been having in our living room. He came out right away the day I called (which was a Saturday, in fact) and analyzed the situation. He seemed very knowledgeable about what was going on and offered me a fair price for the work. I was impressed and thrilled. It was downhill from there. As we had quite a bit of rain that weekend, I was anxious to get the work done ASAP. Dan explained that IF he could come out the next day (Sunday), he would but that it would most likely be during the next week. I was cool with that. In fact, I would have been shocked if they had been able to come out on a Sunday. I waited until Wednesday and when no one had shown up and I had received no call, I called him. First problem, if you have a phone line for your business, set up the voicemail. I can't stand calling somewhere and getting that generic "you have reached an automated attendant" message. Did I call the right number? Is this Beam Construction? Takes two minutes to set up. It's unprofessional not to. So, I left a message inquiring as to when they would be coming out. I received no response. So, on Thursday, I called again, got the VM, and left another message. Dan called me back almost immediately, however, he didn't seem to even know who I was. When I gave him the address, that jogged his memory. He said he would be out on Friday. No one came Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday or today. I called him back and told him to forget it. I'll find someone else. Why is it so difficult to keep someone in the loop? Maybe something came up on Friday. OK, let me know. Maybe you've got workers out sick, or a personal emergency. I understand, things happen, LET ME KNOW! On the other hand, if the job is too small for you to take on and you feel it isn't worth your while, then don't jerk me around.
Description of Work: Came out to look at a leak and give estimate. I agreed to have them do the work, but they never showed up.

Overall, the job went very well. It was done professionally and Dan Beam is very knowledgeable. It took longer than expected but that was because it was such a large job plus there were weather delays. They put in some long hours to try to get it done in as few days as possible. It was an eight day job, including a 12 hour day on Saturday. They cleaned up each night when done and the workers were all very polite.
Description of Work: Beam did a tear-off and reshingle of the roof of our 115 year old office building (a converted home). It is a large and steep multi-angled roof, plus a flat section at the top. They also flashed the chimneys and skylights and repaired the gutters. It was a huge job but they have a big operation (crew and equipment) and approached it in a very professional and efficient manner.

Great!
Description of Work: I highly recommend Beam Construction. Owner, Dan Beam was knowledgeable and helpful when making our decision regarding new roof. The team of workers were hard working and polite with Dan overseeing and working beside them. Also did some minor repairs on our deck and roof. After 2 1/2 days they left with everything so clean you couldn't tell they had ever been here. We could not be more pleased!

We met with Beam Construction. He seemed very knowledgeable and we trusted that he would do a good job. We wanted to use Beam Construction for the repairs. We called to have the work started and his schedule was a bit full that week. He said he would be able to come out the following week to start. He never showed, so we called again and he continued to give us the "next week" excuse. This went on for almost 2 months. I called him to let him know we'd like to stay on his project list, but that we were going to make a few phone calls to see if someone else could come to do the job as we couldn't wait much longer. We weren't able to get another bid in his price range and quality and still expected to hear from Beam Construction. Finally I called again and he thought the job was cancelled. Again he stated he would come out to start "next week" as he was wrapping up another job. We never heard back from Beam and have decided to stop wasting our time with him. He seems like a nice guy, just not very organized or professional.
Description of Work: We were given an estimate for a section of roof to be repaired, removing the gutters, replacing the old fascia board, covering the new fascia with aluminum, installing new soffits and then reinstalling the existing gutters.

The job went well, and the results were outstanding. Dan Beam and company did an outstanding job in very little time. It is very obvious that Dan Beam knows his roofing from both technical and aesthetic aspects. Because there is only one crew, Dan spends a lot of time on the roof with his crew making sure that the work is being done correctly.
Description of Work: Replaced roofing and damaged decking as well as repairs to soffit and siding. Improved roofing with superior shingles, ice guard sheeting, and venting of roof.

Dan Beam is a perfectionist - which is good and bad. They came promptly, worked hard, and did a fantastic job on our new roof, with two exceptions. They lost a support for one or our lightning rods, and we later discovered that a flashing between 2 skylights, set one immediately above the other, leaked during a hard rain. They had flashed all around the double unit, but not between the two. He made many phone calls trying to find a replacement rod support, but couldn't find the exact match. So, it dangled off the end of the roof for months. The difficult flashing he had to do himself, not assign to one of his workers. Unfortunately, once they had moved on to another job, finding time to come back and look at it was difficult. I know he was giving other roofs the same super job he gave ours, but my patience wore thin after 2 months of having a tarp over my skylights. A strongly worded letter got him back, got a custom made rod stand welded up, and 3 hours spent doing an incredible job on that flashing.

THE FIRST TIME WE HAD OUR ROOF REPAIRED BY ANOTHER COMPANY, BUT IT DID NOT STOP LEAKING. DAN DISCOVERED THAT THE WOOD UNDERNEATH THE ROOF WAS ROTTED OUT, SO HE INSTALLED A COMPLETELY NEW ROOF AND THIS WAS REALLY WATERTIGHT PLUS ADDED INSULATION THAT HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR HEATING BILLS (WE HAVE A CALIFORNIA-STYLE ROOF WITH NO ATTIC SPACE. WE HAD ENDURED LEAKS FOR 7 YEARS!). DAN HAS DONE WORK ON 2 OTHER HOUSES ON OUR STREET AND THEY HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH HIS WORK. THE ONLY DIFFICULTY IS THAT HE IS HARD TO CONTACT. HE DID NOT RETURN MY CALLS SEVERAL TIMES AND HE GOT BUSY AND DID NOT COME WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD. I WOULD STILL RECOMMEND HIM BECAUSE HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND ONCE HE STARTS A JOB, HE FINISHES IT.
