 + -1 moreServiceman put erroneous times on both invoices increasing the amount of time he actually worked. Serviceman was very persistent on first visit to include a cleaning of the furnace at an additional charge of $109. He wrote it in on the bill before I had indicated I wanted it. I declined and the charge was removed. On the second service call, serviceman made the cleaning of the furnace a contingency on doing the repair adding an additional $109 to the bill. When it was identified that the Inducer Motor was the problem and that something had gotten into it, I asked if it could be opened and cleaned out. I was told "No." However, after the new Inducer Motor was installed, in a conversation with the serviceman, he said that they find all kinds of things in the motors and have cleaned them out. The charge for the Inducer Motor and installation was $576. The broken part was taken with him.
Description of Work: Serviceman came, worked on the furnace and said it was fixed and I paid for the service call. Within 5 minutes of leaving, the furnace was not running again. Serviceman returned and said Inducer Motor needed replacing, which was done.

 + -1 moreMy central A/C stopped working over the weekend. The compressor unit is about 25 years old and I was almost certain we would need to replace it and I imagined a huge expense we really could not afford right now. I wanted to see if we could repair it first. I called Monday morning on the hottest day of the year so far with higher temps predicted for the week. The receptionist was pleasant, said they were really booked and would not be able to get out until later in the day. I was just grateful it was going to be the same day. Mid afternoon the repairman called and said he was on the way. He arrived about 5 minutes later and got right to work. He quickly discovered the problem and showed me the bad part. Some type of switch on top of the unit part had fused shut. He had one in the truck and quickly installed it. He checked the rest of the unit and checked the coolant and topped that off too. He told me that although the unit is quite old, it really is in pretty good condition. He answered all my questions and gave me some hints on how to care for it better, keep it cleaned out, and protect it over the winter months. (We just purchased this home last fall and had moved from Texas.) The young fellow was completely knowledgeable and professional. He informed me of other services available, such as professionally cleaning the unit, but was not and quot;pushyand quot; at all. Any future problems and I will definitely be calling them again.

 + -1 moreThey sell quality products and they treat everybody like family. You do pay a little bit more for their service, but if you have a problem, they are right there. Our heat wasn't on and recall of them at 11 o'clock at night and the person showed up within half an hour. They lived quite a distance away, so they probably got dressed and headed out the minute they got the call.

They are always there when I call. They are friendly and honest. Their work is high quality. They offer some of the best products in the market. They are a family business, so they are very concerned about their customers and they treat them fairly. I would definitely recommend them. With regard to price, I think they are very competitive.

When I told them that I had another contractor do the work the workers left my driveway. 10 minutes later my phone rang, one of the owners of the company called my home and left a irate message on my answering machine (which I have saved all these years). The workers were very professional. The owners inherited the business and have become very entitled due to lack of serious competition in this market. Do not do business with these imbeciles, they are milking the business that their grandfather built. If you need to find the owners they will be hanging out at the local country club in New Hartford.

Description of Work: It was cold and in the middle of winter ! My furnace just died.................. Collis came to my rescue as they always had with my old "nellie".... They had to shovel to get in as it had stormed the night before... With in a day I had a new furnace.......Being single it is so reassuring to know Collis is always there for me. Growing up I remember Grandfather Collis coming to our home in the middle of the night to get our old boiler going to keep us all warm. Now the Grandchildren Collis's that came with Grandpa Collis is servicing me and my children!! I just love them ! Don't even bother shopping around and wasting your time....

 + 0 moreThey are very good. I call them and they are right here every time. If they cannot fix the problem, they find me an answer to fix the problem. They are very good with that. They are a little highly priced than other places but what I have found with them is that they are always prompt and they call me right back. I never have to wait for days or even hours, within an hour they will call me back and find out for anything. They do air condition, heating and plumbing. I would absolutely use them in the future if I need to.

When we got the furnace installed, they came in with the lowest estimate of the companies we contacted. They did the work quickly. We were satisfied with them. We would use them again in the future.

 + -1 moreI'll never do business with them again. There are plenty of competent HVAC outfits around. My guess is that they limit the good service they used to provide to everyone to their larger commercial or high-end clientele. Good luck to them.
Description of Work: It''s hit or miss whether you can trust these guys these days. It's sad when you can no longer rely on a company your family has done business with for 30+ years. Had them in to do maintenance on my boiler three times over the past several years. During the call back in '08 or '09 they sent a young, courteous and very professional guy who went over and beyond what was necessary as was typical of what we had come to expect of Collis. They had done a major overhaul of the heating systems in our three-unit house in Utica back in the '80s and they really were the best back then. Last year the guy shows up and is borderline rude and really pushy about how the whole system should be replaced. He gave me the impression that he was a hairsbreath away from reporting me to codes for my situation. I later found out that they actually do sometimes "red tag" systems which is actually something that only the utility company is supposed to do. Anyway, he replaced the controller unit and the charge was about $500. This year, the boiler failed to start and in dealing with it I had occasion to look up the price of the part. $89. The tech was here for an hour max, so you can do the math on the effective labor rate. Jeez, it's not like I asked him for serious legal advice or anything. On top of that, he didn't do any of the clean-up of the appliance that is supposed to come with what I had him out to do. It was a serious rooking. Didn't think much of it at the time as I still trusted them, so I called them out to work on a furnace at a different house. Looking back, the bill was $600 and the part cost was well under $200. Here again, less than an hour of work. Then early this year I had them out to bid on the job of installing a new hot-water boiler system in a new house that I bought. The guy they sent was very knowledgeable and was willing to share information about what had to get done and actually gave me advice that I wound up following: install a modern on-demand combination heat/hot-water system ... but he warned me of the expense: "The boiler itself goes for $7000". Well, not only did he never get back to me with a quote for either of the two options we discussed but I eventually hired Country&Suburban to install the new modern boiler AND do a complete build-out of a 4 zone baseboard system from scratch for not much more that what the Collis guy said the cost of the boiler would be.
