Description of Work: I purchased the big deal and have not been able to get in contact with the company. I filled out the scheduling form, sent an Angie's list message, tried to email the address on their website, and filled out their contact us form on their website and nobody has returned any of my messages in a week and a half.

Response from Tinelli Lawn & Gardens
[member name removed], I am very sorry for the Inconvience. This is the second time this has happened and it is the fault of Angie's list. You are the second customer that has bought a service through their store and they have not contacted or alerted me in anyway. I complained the first time to them and told them that shines a very bad light on my company. I will be contacting them again immediately. If I can still help you in anyway please feel free to contact me directly and I will be glad to help you in anyway I can. Again, I truly apologize. Joe tinelli

Description of Work: They cleaned the yard for winter. Tinelli went the extra mile to make sure everything was cleaned, clipped and lower. Time wasn't an issue. Excellent contractor.

The all around experience was great. I found Mr. Tinelli, his son Joe Jr. and their whole staff, very knowledgeable and professional. I met Mr. Tinelli at Stew Leonards in Yonkers where he has a landscape consultation booth. I had a very basic idea of what kind of landscaping design I wanted and Mr. Tinelli came up with about 3 different options as far as design and price ranges for me to choose from. I had all of my old landscaping taken out and completely changed everything. The all around design of the beds, plants, and mulch. I met with and priced out this job with 3 different companies, Tinelli"s price was about in the middle of the other companies but the difference in the knowledge they had compared to the other compannies made up for the couple of hundred dollars difference. I would reccomend this company to anyone looking for quality and professionalism.
Description of Work: A complete re-design of all my landscaping.

It was a good experience. They were professional and I think his suggestions were appropriate to the garden and to my goals. I think his price was fair; I just decided to delay the work then I also eventually had it done by someone who became my gardener for regular maintenance. I don't know if Tinelli was available to provide regular weekly maintenance in the summer. I will let them quote again in the future.

I met Mr. Tinelli while shopping at Stew Leonard's - he has a table set up there in the Garden Center. I inquired about getting a bid for yard clean up of a home we just purchased as well as a proposal for landscaping that could be done in stages over the next few years. I trusted that he was a reliable, responsible vendor and based that on the fact that Stew Leonard's (who is so great about customer service!) had him in their Gardening Center. Mr. Tinelli set up an appointment to come to our home than called to change the day and time. When he did come to our home, he spent about 30 minutes with my husband and I walking over the property and he offered some suggestions for a patio that neither of us liked. He was given a check for $100 for coming to our home and for providing an estimate for clean up and a plan for future landscaping. He was the first landscaper that I had contacted - I did not know that no one else would require a "fee" for an estimate. Six other landscaping companies submitted bids for our clean up, all of them were free and all spent the same amount or more time with us than Mr. Tinelli did. About two weeks after his visit, we received his estimate for yard clean up only. Mr. Tinelli's estimate was for $2,300, the lowest bid received was for $360. We used the lowest bid and the final bill ended up being closer to $900, but still far less than Tinelli.
Description of Work: Mr. Tinelli gave us an estimate for yard clean up for a home we recently purchased. Mr. Tinelli was the only landscaper who charged us a fee ($100) to provide an estimate - 6 other landscapers gave bids at no cost to us. He told us that the $100 would be taken off of the final bill if we decided to use him - his estimated was the highest of all received, nearly 3 times higher than the lowest bid.

Response from Tinelli Lawn & Gardens
I am very sorry that you were not happy with our service. Also we are new to Angies list, so I also apologize for not responding to this until now. I just want to start by saying that we do not charge anything for yard clean up or lawn maintenance estimates. We do however charge a $100.00 consultation fee for certain jobs that require a lot more time, ideas and planning. I just looked up the estimate on file for your home and it was not only a yard clean up. It was a bid for landscape designing and planting, pavers, fencing and a major yard clean up. We do let our customers know about the consultation charge up front if it applies to their estimate. It is not a hidden charge. If the customer signs up with us the fee is deducted. I do understand that you can get "landscapers" to come out to your home for free. I do not however think you can compare two companies based on price alone. We would never say that we are the cheapest, but we can say that we are the best. Anyone that buys a lawn mower, weed whacker and a pickup truck gets automatically classified as a landscaper, and that’s the furthest thing from the truth. If I had a dollar for every call I have received from people that need to have their landscaping done over due to “landscapers” doing poor work I could retire a long time ago. Most don’t have any insurance, consumer affairs license, and most of all experience. I don’t know what the credentials of the other companies you called are but I can tell you that our company has been in business for over 50 years, I am a nationally certified landscape technician, fully licensed and insured, and recent past President of the New York State Turf and Landscape Association. Whether it’s landscaping or any other service, the saying "good work is not cheap, and cheap work is not good" applies to all. We do high quality work, with the best materials, care and knowledge at the most reasonable price allowed. Again, I am truly sorry that you were not happy because customer satisfaction means everything to us.
