Right after we put our needs on Angi's List, we received a call (on a Sunday) and Edgar took the time to listen and understand our problem. When he came to fix our refrigerator, he was prompt, completely professional and very reasonable. He showed us everything he was doing and ended up fixing two fridges for us. He really cares about doing a great job - and that's exactly what he did!

The repairman taught me a work-around should the dryer malfunction again and warned that eventually we might need a new motor. I could not be more pleased with responsiveness and expertise of the repairman.

+ -1 moreEdgar at Edgar's Repair saved me the cost of a new oven, after a repair man from Flash Appliance had diagnosed that my old Imperial wall oven needed a new electric starter, and never returned my call as to if he could find a repair part. A tech at Imperial advised the oven won't accommodate a new starter. Edgar came out, said the starter works fine; needed a new pilot light system. He found the parts in his truck, and repaired it in ten minutes, at a reasonable fee!

+ -1 moreEdgar was quick to respond and schedule an appointment. He did not diagnose the issue properly. Without bothering to check in detail, he just claimed my dishwasher was damaged due to mice activity and I should replace my expensive dishwasher as the board is damaged. I got skeptical as none of the wiring and insulation looked damaged. The dishwasher was less than 2 years old and expensive. I called another company for second opinion and they correctly diagnosed the issue as some problems with the circulation pump due to filters not being cleaned for a long time. Laziness of Edgar would have made me unnecessarily throw away my expensive dishwasher. When I told him he asked for proof which I sent him but he did not refund 80$ he charged for lousy service. I would never hire again.

+ 0 moreOur Whirlpool washer wasn't draining. Edgar's was one of the recommended vendors with many good reviews. Once I submitted to get a proposal, Edgar's called within minutes. I explained the issue and they told me it could be one of two things and gave me an estimate (which was reasonable) over the phone. Within an hour of the phone call the technician arrived. He was very knowledgeable and very professional. He had us up and running in no time. I would highly recommend Edgar's.

+ -1 moreHe explained everything and installed it quickly. Before he left, he turned the machine on. There was a small banging noise. He said that would go away when we put a load in the dryer. In the middle of the second load, the dryer stopped. Wasn't tumbling. He came back and put a new belt around the tumbler and now works. I should have made him leave only when the dryer purred instead of listening to some excuse that was probably false. He said it was a bad part.

+ -1 moreEdgar's Repair Service did excellent work. Both the owner and the technician were very reliable. A technician came promptly. He repaired a dishwasher that wasn't draining and restarted the oven, When the dishwasher cycle wasn't working properly (that wasn't the purpose of my call for help) the next day, the technician reset the cycle and showed me how to do it. I recommend highly Edgar's Repair Service.

Within only a few moments after clicking SEND, Edgar telephoned to tell me that he was in my area and would be able to swing by within the hour. Truth be told, if I'd seen the one, very negative review here, I probably would not have hired this company. But instead, I had only read other reviews from a different site that were very positive. I agreed to have Edgar come, and within the hour the oven repair was diagnosed and completed. He was polite, efficient, and competent. I would recommend him to others and use him again.

Description of Work: On Friday Feb 22 2013 my Maytag washing machine stopped working in the middle of the rinse cycle. I was frantic. Since I've had the combowasher-dryer for 6 years and never had a problem. In fact, I was in love with my washer-dryer. I wish I could say the same for the experience I had in getting it repaired. I called Maytag and they gave me a couple of names they had registered with them. Problem was that if Maytag made the appointment the earliest they could come out would be in 4 days!. Thanks Maytag. I think I'll handle this myself. So I called the first name I was given by Maytag –Edgars Appliance repair in Yonkers NY. He came out on the same day – replaced the fuse – since he said that was the problem – the machine worked – I paid $188.00 to replace a $30.00 fuse for 45 minutes work. Highway robbery! A week later – on Friday March 1 – same thing happened – my washer stopped in the middle of the rinse cycle. I called Edgar's back, left a message. No one got back to me. I kept calling and finally got a hold of Edgar (he said he never got the message) and said he needed to come back, since they offer a 90 day guarantee on their work. He said no one was available that day. I was frantic. Once they take your money it's over. "It's only a friggin washing machine, lady" is what Edgar said – these are the exact words Edgar used. The same person came back out (without even informing me that he would be back). He said he couldn't fix the problem and that I would be getting a refund. (yeah, right). Following week I got a hold of Edgar and he told me he would send me a refund check for $148.14 (deducting $40.00 for gas) on March 15th. I agreed to the amount, although I objected, but only to finish up with him. On March 22nd Edgar said he sent the check – but to the wrong address. On March 29th he said the check came back, and he resent it to the correct address. As of today I still had not received his refund check. To sum it up – Edgar is a liar and a cheat and I am now suing him.

+ -1 moreWe thought his price was reasonable. The person they sent out was a real old time pro. He just knew his stuff and he diagnosed the problem. He said that our washing machine is incredible because it was built in the 1960’s and it’s still running. He knew what was wrong and how to fix it. So we were quite pleased. We will absolutely use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used Edgar's Appliance Service for large appliance repair. We last used his services a couple of months ago roughly. We had a dryer that was making huge amounts of noise and chewing up clothes. So he repaired that.

+ 0 moreThe repair was successful and I've had no problems with the washer or dryer since. They were very careful to test both the washer and dryer before declaring the job completed. It turned out to be impossible to get to the back of the dryer on their first trip out to see it. Though they were not willing to move a large subzero refrigerator out of the way, they did not charge me for the first visit. They were very good about helping me coordinate their repair work with the people who needed to move the refrigerator. I was able to time the various stages of the job with some precision because Edgar's was both flexible and punctual with respect to his schedule and his arrival at my apartment.
Description of Work: Replaced the heating element and the fuse in a Whirlpool dryer. Job required working in a small space behind a refrigerator.
