They are the worst. Gary is so rude and incompetent. My dryer broke and he was bragging that he has been in the business for so many years. He ordered three different parts. He misdiagnosed the problem. He never fixed it. He just wasted my time for three weeks. He took 100 dollar diagnosis fee and kept 200 dollars of my money for one of his wrong parts. He never returned it. I paid him upfront because I thought he was an upstanding guy. Do not get involved with this company. They are the biggest scammers and as rude as can be!!!! BEWARE

The company should be called Unable and Never Ready. Like others have said, avoid Able and Ready at all costs!! First off, they are unbelievable unreliable. Every time -- EVERY time -- I have booked them, the tech either just didn't arrive, or the office called the morning of the appointment to say the tech couldn't arrive during the scheduled window of time. Second, the tech guy (Gary) just downright sucks. He will talk you ear off and then fail to fix the issues. Earlier this year, Gary charged me close to $400 to repair my ice machine. Two days later, the ice machine malfunctioned again. When I called back to tell them, they said it would cost an additional $100 for another part -- a part that Gary somehow forgot to tell me during his first visit would be necessary to fix the issue. Unless you somehow enjoy major aggravation, stay away from Able & Ready.

This was a HORRIBLE service. The ice maker on my refrigerator was broken so I called them for a repair. Made an appointment, they called to confirm in the morning, I called the office twice throughout the day while waiting for the repair man, and he still never came. No one called us to tell him he wasn't coming, he just never showed up. So we called the next day and they said the repair man could come in the next week. He came and did absolutely nothing, said if we purchased a new filter it would solve the problem. I then went out and spent money on a new filter but it still did not work. So I called back and asked to have someone out again. We made the appointment and again they called to confirm in the morning and again NEVER CAME. He was scheduled to come between 2-5, at 3 I called and asked if he was still on his way and was informed that he had left for the day and would not be coming. The woman on the phone was extremely unapologetic and was in NO WAY willing to help me after I had been put out by their service so many times. Needless to say, I was appalled by this service. We then contacted a different repair company who came and said the fridge needed new parts and was broken and ordered them. So the one time he actually came and did nothing he failed to realize that there was an actual problem. I would NEVER recommend this service, they put my repairs back a month and wasted time that I had to take off from work to wait for them to never show up. TERRIBLE SERVICE.
Description of Work: Basically nothing. Told me I needed a new filter which did not help at all. Also out of 3 scheduled appointments only showed up one time. See below.

Woke up to a broken dishwasher and grabbed the first appliance repair name that popped up after a google search. Their tech (Gary) showed up a few hours later and told me I needed a new motor. This shop does not take credit cards, I had to mail them a check to order the new motor, they were a full day late in obtaining the motor, and then the day of the install they insist that I be at home for the full 3 hour arrival window as their tech will not call my cell phone. So much for a customer service focus.

2 guys showed up late. They were supposed to be here between 10 and 1 pm but showed at 2 pm. I could live with that, given NYC. The guys came, ultimately removed the unit that I had since 1995. The guy told me as long as I ordered a new unit he could come back again on his own off the company's hours. Agreed to a subsequent Friday afternoon after 5 pm Had a friend come over at 3 pm and told the guy he could come any time after 3 pm. I got home around 6 pm when he called to say he was running late and would not be there till 8 pm. Late but I said fine. Make a long story short, called him at 8 pm and he said he would be here in 15 minutes. That's when I felt something was not right. I was leaving the city for the weekend anyway so tried to call and cancel but he would not pick up. So I left around 8:30, left some money with the doorman to give the guys (after all, they were trying). On Sunday night as ingot back, the doorman told me they did not show till 9:30 pm. And yes, they took the money. While they did a decent job removing the broken unit, I just did not feel terribly confident about them. And after their first visit, read their less than stellar review on Angie's List and felt my instincts were confirmed. In a way, I am glad it did not work out as I do not trust their abilities and did not like feeling slightly creeped out by the whole experience especially the deceptive "I will be there in 15 minutes" tactic. I really trust Angie's List, and as such, would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: Called them because I had used them a few years ago for oven repair (although it later turned out they did not really fix the problem), and they had left their stickers on my appliances. Called them to fix a broken, leaky hot water dispenser attached to my kitchen sink.

It was the worst experience I have ever had.
Description of Work: Worst experience I have ever had with a repair company. They were recommended by Whirlpool to do warranty work on a washer for me. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again based on my experience with Able and Ready. The Technician was rude and unprofessional. When I tried to contact the owner to discuss my experience with him I was told he would not be calling me back. What kind of customer service is that? They are very difficult to get a hold of and they have no respect for the customers time. They give you a large time window and don't stick to it. In fact, they call you and reschedule the appointment after you have been waiting at home for them. When I was finally able to get them out to the house to do the repair the technician got into a heated argument with me because he was going to reschedule again. He refused to call his supervisor and would not wait while I called him. Needless to say I was furious and I am still left with a broken washer. Thankfully I gave a very detailed report to Whirlpool about how I was treated and they were very apologetic and scheduled a new company to come out and to the repairs. I have since looked up Able and Ready on the web and have found numerous complaints very similar to my own experience. I wish I would have used Angie's List or at least check up on this company before I agreed to work with them. NEVER AGAIN.

Needed a part, which they came and replaced. Dishwasher broke again a few weeks later. It needed a second part, which turned out not to be the part that was broken. They ordered the new part and disappeared. Difficult to reach on the phone and slow to return calls. Very unprofessional. I'm wondering if the first repair did further damage to the machine.

The microwave isn't fixed yet, but I've had such great service from Able & Ready that I wanted to write about it before I get too busy. Basically a pretty major part on the microwave (read $150 worth) needs to be replaced. Given that it is only 18 months old and the whole thing only cost $400, I was a little reluctant to invest $300+ in parts and labor of a $400 microwave. Gary gave me the part number that I needed and suggested I call Frigidaire to see if they would send me the part at a discount, which he had seen them do, since it was recently out of the warranty period (only 12 months on everything, whereas a GE microwave would cover this part for 5 years even though everything else is only 12 months). When I called Frigidaire, they agreed to cover the full cost of the part. If Gary had been like a lot of other service people in Westchester, it would have cost me almost twice as much to repair this microwave. I'll try and update once the repair is done to comment on the quality of the work, but so far the customer service has been great. UPDATE: After a good start, Gary could not get the microwave working and the company was having difficulty getting parts. Called in another vendor, who got it going after one diagnostic call and one return trip with the right parts.
Description of Work: Called them for an out of warranty repair on a Frigidaire microwave. Gary came out for their general diagnostic service call.

This is a follow-up to an earlier review when no one called/showed up for the appointed time. After I wrote the review, the repair guy called, claiming he was told to call between 3 and 8 when I was told I would be contacted between 3 and 5. Sounds like BAD scheduling back at the home office. But the repairman, Gary, was very professional, very thorough, very neat, so I can't really penalize HIM for his performance. So even though I was left feeling defeated when no one called, it ended well.

After diagnosing the vent problem, which took climbing half way out the skylight window, the room was left tidy and ready for the "Dust Dusters" to come tomorrow afternoon. I will send my report on them tomorrow.
Description of Work: Alexander Cruz, a senior technician arrived promptly after giving me a 15 minute notice (I appreciate that since it gives me time to close my huge dog in the bedroom). He went straight to work trying to determine why my new dryer failed to dry clothes. At one point he had to open the skylight to inspect the vent. The vent was clogged and thus, the clothes took ages to dry. While closing up the skylight, he actually asked me if I had some Windex handy to clean it before closing it up again!!!!! I appreciate his extra thoughtfulness and the clean and tidy way he left the job. He recommended that "Dust Dusters" clean the vent with their heavy duty vacuum. I will report on that tomorrow. Thanks Alex, your boss should be proud of your fine performance! Diane Mayer
