+ -1 moreJimmy was a pleasure to work with! The "A Man With a Van & More, Inc." website provided a comprehensive checklist, which allowed Jimmy to write a prompt and accurate estimate. Jimmy was punctual when he came for the house walk-through; within the same evening, he emailed the quote. We had never used a moving company before and were very apprehensive about this new venture. To add to our concern, an impending snowstorm was threatening to alter our move date. However, to our pleasant surprise, Jimmy called and asked if he could begin the packing in NJ two days earlier to avoid the snow. We were so relieved! Jimmy's crew was right on time on moving day. They were very polite and hard-working. They moved many heavy items including a ride-on mower, grand piano, and workshop machinery. Jimmy's crew worked very carefully, yet quickly every step of the way. The same was true on the delivery end in Virginia. We highly recommend Jimmy and his team. + -1 moreBefore we begin this review of Man with a Van we must extend a hugh apology to Jimmy and his crew for being so remiss in how long it has taken to provide this review. The good news is everything we have to say is extremely positive. Our positive experience began with our first contact with Jimmy, owner of "Man with a Van". Rather than coming to our home for a personal visit, "Man with a Van" provides a comprehensive check list which in most cases, including ours, enables him to give a fairly accurate quote saving time and money. Next, Jimmy really came through for us regarding the scheduling of our move as due to a communication mishap on our part, we lost the day we preferred. Jimmy really did his utmost to juggle his schedule in order to accommodate our preferred moving date for which we give thanks again. He made it work without stress keeping a positive outlook about our mistake. On the actual day of the move Jimmy and his team arrived right on time and were fast and efficient in loading the truck. Moving from a house in Croton-on-Hudson, NY to a third floor walk up apartment in Greenpoint Brooklyn went smoothly and quickly. We were amazed! During the whole move the "Man with a Van" team were extremely personable, good natured and careful with our belongings. Especially with our larger than life African Masks! Being this was our first experience using a moving company, we were apprehensive and did not know what to expect. Jimmy and his team were accommodating and reassuring every step of the way and we highly recommend them. In fact, we hope to be using them again to move a washer/dryer. + -1 moreGreat overall job. Jimmy was extremely responsive to providing a moving quote, and was understanding when we had to reschedule based on a new closing date. On the day of the job, the crew showed up on time and worked very efficiently. Admittedly, I had fairly significantly underestimated the number of boxes we needed moved, and they provided an updated estimate that was very fair. Upon arriving at our new house, the crew again worked very well, and did not seem to even take any breaks, despite moving a number of boxes/heavy objects up a couple flights of stairs. All members of the crew seemed to be very hard-working, nice guys. They made our move significantly easier. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Moved everything from a 1400 sf 2 BR apartment in Connecticut to a 3 story, 1800 sf townhouse in NJ.

+ 0 moreMy husband and I recently downsized from a large 6 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom apartment. We had a lot furniture and boxes to go into storage. We also had what seemed like a huge amount of "stuff" both inside and outside the house (from the attic to under the back deck) to just get rid of. I researched Angie's list for a reliable company to do the job. Man With A Van sure got high marks, so I was persuaded to give them a call and I don't regret that decision one bit! Jimmy Consaga is like a jack of all trades and when I mentioned to him that I needed to find a good cleaning company to get the house sparkling for the new buyer's walk-through, he said his company did that as well! First I'll comment on the move and rubbish removal. It couldn't have been less stressful or more professional. The crew moved quickly to load up first the rubbish -- and this included plastic bins and old air conditioners from the attic to outdoor furniture and rusted gardening equipment under the deck --there was even an old kayak on the far side of the property that had to go! I couldn't believe how beautiful everything looked after they carted off all the old junk. Next they loaded a separate truck with all the things going into storage and off that went. The following morning Jimmy's cleaning crew showed up with all their own cleaning equipment and supplies. When I went back into the house I could not believe what they had accomplished. The carpeted stairs going up from the garage to the kitchen and then up to the 2nd floor bedrooms were so clean, I canceled the carpet cleaning I'd scheduled for the end of the week! Every surface shined and window sills and under counter spaces were immaculate. I'm writing this review not because I think Jimmy needs yet another A, but because I appreciate how much easier he made our move. His cost was completely reasonable for the scope and size of the job and we'd use him again in a heartbeat!

+ -1 moreSeamless and easy. Jimmy and his team actually made moving day fun. There's no reason to even research or price other moving companies. There's honestly only one choice. A Man With a Van & More. His crew was meticulous and pleasant every step of the way. I thought I was obsessive about cleanliness and care. These guys brought it to a whole other level. They shrink wrapped, then covered, then covered again. I did't worry for a second about any of my things. They arrived on time with a brand new truck and before I knew it I was moved into my home. Outstanding all around. I plan on using Jimmy again soon for hauling away debris after some renovations.

+ 2 moreI sat down to read the newspaper thinking that the movers would be late, but I couldn't get to the first article before I saw Jimmy's truck show up in front of the apartment, right on time. The move was from a one-bedroom apartment, which is up one tricky flight of stairs. The two hardest pieces were the upright piano and the sleeper sofa. Without complaint, two of Jimmy's guys were able to turn a tight corner and get these items downstairs. I was also concerned that once they saw the apartment and all the items we had in the attic, they would try to increase the price. Nope - I had done my best to describe the job, and there was no question about price. The quoted price was it. I was surprised that it included moving the piano, a ton of rubbish (including discarding it!), taking things out of the attic and making two stops - one at a storage facility and another at a home location. Jimmy is also extremely professional, especially in a business which can be a little suspect. He clearly aims to do the best job he can at a good price. He will also be truthful enough to tell you if he can't do something or can't make a particular day or time. He is clearly motivated to do a good job and get good reviews and if you use him, you will see that he absolutely wants you to be satisfied. He's smart because he knows reputation is everything. I would happily use him again.

Jimmy was exceptionally professional is his interactions with us from the initial meeting to give us an estimate to the day of the move itself. He was very flexible and responsive in working out packing days and moving days. In the end we ended up with more to move than we initially expected due to moving an office and our home at the same time. Jimmy worked with us to make sure that he and his crew had enough time to pack and move everything and worked to make sure that we had enough trucks so that there were no issues on our moving day. His crew was early both days and worked consistently. They were cohesive and organized in their work and it was clear that they are a team that works together often. They were respectful and communicated with us very effectively. All of our possessions and furniture arrived intact, including my wife's great grandmothers china and her grandmother's antique couch and antique china dolls. They stayed until everything was rebuilt and placed where it should be in the new house. We found Jimmy's cost more than fair and his insurance package was better than most of the typical movers we have encountered. We would whole heartedly recommend them and though we really don't want to contemplate moving again anytime soon, we will call them should the occasion arise.

+ -1 moreMan With a Van and More was excellent. They packed everything very carefully, pointed out scratches, etc. before packing, and did an impeccable job. Furniture legs were removed and secured with the furniture. Bulbs were taken out of lamps, etc. Everything was very securely packed, especially my fine china and crystal - which arrived in pristine condition. Since I was concerned about my large plants being in the truck overnight, they loaded them on the morning of the move. The job took three days (packing and loading Sunday and Monday, moving and unloading on Tuesday). And they unloaded and set up the furniture and accessories as carefully as they packed them...down to my Grandfather clock, which is happily running in it's new home. Everything was placed in position as marked - and if they weren't sure, they asked. I have some additional plants and items to be moved, and I am definitely planning to use Man With a Van and More of White Plains. They came to my house to review the items to be moved, quoted the job, and charged me exactly what was quoted. They are professional and reputable. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

+ -1 moreThe week before our move Hurricane Sandy came through. In spite of the fact that Jimmy was without power for over a week he sent crews out to help us pack our house. His team was fast and efficient. He also help us remove furniture we choose to donate. Unbelievable! His truck arrived on time as promised in NC. Once again his team was something else. They setup our furniture and move the boxes into the various rooms. Not a single piece of furniture was damaged or a box misplaced. If you're moving A Man with a Van is the way to go!

+ -1 moreOn the date of the scheduled move, Jimmy's crew showed up on time. The crew, led by David, was a pleasure to deal with. They worked 8 straight hours, without taking much of a break, to move us into our new apartment. They wrapped all of our furniture (which included antiques and a number of expensive Stickely pieces), moved the piano, hoisted 5 large pieces of furniture out of the second floor window with straps, and did not leave a scratch on any of the walls or the furniture. Due to the complexity of the move, the crew did not have enough time to get to the storage facility located in Norwood, New Jersey, before it closed for the day. This presented an issue for us because we were traveling out of town the next morning. With Jimmy, this was no problem. He had the crew bring the items to his house, transferred those items to a smaller truck that night, and delivered them for us to the storage facility the next morning. What do I have to say about Jimmy? He is the best. There is no doubt in my mind that I will call him when it comes time to move again.
Description of Work: Jimmy and his crew are nothing less than AMAZING. We originally hired a different company to move us out of a three bedroom townhouse in Brooklyn (a three story walk-up) and into a two bedroom apartment (elevator building also in Brooklyn) two days before Thanksgiving. The move also involved delivering a number of items to a storage facility (owned by the moving company) because they were not going to fit in the apartment. The move was scheduled for Tuesday, 11/20. A few days before the scheduled move, the moving company informed us that we had to hire a hoisting company to assist on the date of the move because several large items of furniture had to be hoisted out of a second floor window. We were a bit troubled by this because their estimator, who actually came to the house, had previously told us that the hoisting would not be a problem. They referred us to a hoisting company, which agreed (on short notice) to come on the date of the move, but they gave us a quote that would have more than doubled the cost of the move (the hoisting company wanted to bring a crane to hoist the items out of the second floor window even though a crane was not used when the items were moved into the house). By then, it was late Friday afternoon, four days before our scheduled move. So as we continued to pack the contents of our home, we scrambled to find another moving company that could do both the move and hoisting but we had trouble finding someone who could come to the house and give us an estimate before the date of our scheduled move. On Saturday at about 4 pm, four days before we needed to move, we found Jimmy on Angie's List. I called the number for " A Man with A Van & More" and started leaving a rather lengthy message to explain our situation. The message was being transmitted to Jimmy as I was talking because Jimmy called my cell phone before I was able to finish the message. Jimmy left a message of my voice mail to call him back. I did and he picked up right away. After explaining our situation to him, Jimmy told us to go online and fill out his form. We submitted the form later that evening and Jimmy responded less than half an hour later. Jimmy's response to us was "no problem." He would come on Tuesday. He quoted us a flat rate of $ 2,500, which included the necessary hoisting. No crane was needed. His quote was $ 300 less than the estimate we received from the other company, which charged by the hour and also wanted us to hire another company to do the hoisting. Jimmy also found us a storage facility (independent company called Westys) to take our items on the date of the move. We did not finish packing until the night before the move (Monday night). I sent Jimmy an email that night because we underestimated the number of boxes to be moved (we ended up with about 25 more boxes than originally estimated). Jimmy's response to this was, again, "no problem." He instructed us to be ready in the morning because "I am sending you my best crew and we work quick."

+ -1 moreThe move went extremely well. I contacted the owner, Jimmy, for an estimate. He came to our old home, gave us the final estimate an arranged a moving date on relatively short notice. Jimmy also gave me excellent recommendations for packing and getting prepared for the move. On the day of the move, they arrived promptly and a 4 man crew went to work. The crew was very nice, careful and very professional. The truck was packed and they headed toward the new location on Black Friday. The unloading ran very smoothly, no problem. The crew reassembled my husband's gym equipment. This and the elliptical trainer that they moved, were quite large and probably the most difficult part of the move. They were flawless. They left the house with no mess left behind and went to our storage facility to unload additional boxes. Again, flawless. This was, as most moves, a very stressful time for us. Jimmy and his crew kept us calm and minimized our stress. I recommend A Man with a Van for anybody that is getting ready to move. I would use them again without hesitation. I found them on Angie's List. They deserve an A+ rating and far exceeded my expectations.

All fragile items arrived unharmed. They navigated a narrow hallway, moved shelving and were able to remove a large, intact elliptical trainer from our basement and put it into our new home.

+ -1 moreThis is the second time we use James, we were very happy last year when we moved from Westchester NY to Weston CT. I got some other estimates to compare and decided to go with " A Man with a Van" again. It was very easy, just called up James and told him details, we set a date for the move and everything went smoothly. He gave me the same quote as last year but after the first day we realized that our boxes and furniture had increased quite a bit and the truck wouldn't be sufficient. No problem for the moving crew, they drove back and packed up the rest and didn't stop until our entire house was moved. They charged me accordingly more but still a fair price. Jim is easy to communicate with because he responds to calls and texts. The day of the move I had three guys come to my house pack up the kitchen and prepare everything for easy loading the next day. Everyone was very polite and courteous. The next day we had 5 people show up on time, they packed up the house and transported it to Stamford, 30 minutes away to unload. I was so impressed by the good spirit everyone had. No eye rolling if you couldn't decide where some boxes should go, just a friendly, "take your time". The crew worked until 9:30 PM because of the unexpected additional volume. During the entire time, Jim was there to oversee the move and coordinate the adjustments for the larger load. Overall, I like to say that I am very happy to have found a reliable and courteous moving company for a fair price. We will surely use them again next year.

Once we found a house to rent, I called Jimmy based on his reviews in Angie's List and explained the situation - our house had no power or heat, a few rooms were caved in due to a tree falling into the house and I needed all of the surviving items in the house, which was quite a bit of stuff, moved out immediately. I also asked Jimmy not to accept the job if he couldn't guarantee that he would provide a professional service and do what he promised to do. I explained that we had a bad moving experience in the past and, with everything else going on, we didn't need to deal with a chaotic move. Jimmy assured me that he was a professional outfit and he would do a professional job. Simply, Jimmy kept his word. His team was completely professional. They showed up when they said they would and worked quickly. They were courteous, friendly, and helpful. We had left the day after the hurricane with a suitcase and left everything else behind and were unable to pack anything. The team had to pack everything in the house, down to the last fork and towel, and they did it with great care and with no damage to our possessions. They did a great job unpacking at our rental house, quickly turning an empty space into a liveable space with all of our stuff in the right places. In short, at a trying time for my family, Jimmy's team greatly helped us and were true professionals. Once our home is rebuilt, we will be calling Jimmy to have his team move us back.

+ 0 moreJimmy and his team were professional, courteous, prompt, fairly priced, and flexible. In a word, AWESOME. Jimmy called me within 30 minutes of my inquiry (which was at about 8PM). He met with me to go through the house to get a good estimate of the job. It would have been difficult to list the contents. Jimmy advised me on storage and put me in contact with the right person to get the storage at a good price. This was a big job that spanned two days. At all times, I felt that the team was on my side and was just as interested in getting this job done right as I was. They even handled additional content to be removed that I had forgotten about. This company does it all. They are extremely flexible. I thought I was going to have to hire two, or maybe three different companies to get this all done, but "A Man With A Van and More" handled it like pros. Frankly, I have never seen guys work as hard as this team did. I would definitely recommend this company for any of your hauling or moving needs.
Description of Work: My job was an entire house cleanout with mostly hauling of junk and also moving boxes and some furniture to storage. It also inolved demolition and removal of a fence. Some of the content of the house was in a basement that had flooded several times and was difficult to access. Two crawl spaces and two stables also needed to be cleaned out.

+ -1 moreWe initially got an estimate for the move by using their online web tool. When it was significantly out of line with another quote we had gotten from a company that had come to our home to do an estimate, we requested that Jimmy visit our home to re-submit a bid. That second bid was in-line with the other companies bid and we opted to contract services with A Man with a Van and More. Prior to the move, we had several clarifying questions for Jimmy (we didn't want any surprises the day of the move or any unexpected expenses) and he was always responsive to his emails. None of the extras we had anticipated and spoken with Jimmy about ended up costing extra. There were no hidden costs that surprised us in the end (much appreciated). His men arrived on-time the morning of the move and got straight to work. They were very professional and careful with our furniture and boxes and completed the packing of the moving trucks at the time Jimmy had originally estimated they would. It was appreciated that any time they were about to pack a piece of furniture that already had damage to it that they alerted us to it (so we wouldn't think it was damaged in-transit). On day two of the move, his men arrived in NH around the time they were expected and again were very quick, professional and careful in unpacking the trucks and placing our furniture. They were very good at dismantling and reconstructing our beds. They also were very efficient at packing the stuff we wanted to store into our storage space - so efficient that we didn't have to get two storage units (which we were afraid we would have to), but also we will not be able to easily access stuff at the back of the unit (our fault - reminder to self for next move - be sure to label separately anything going to storage that you want easy access to so it can be placed near the door!). We labeled most everything, but anything that wasn't labeled they were very good about asking about so when it was loaded on the truck, they knew which location it would be unloaded at. We appreciated having the same crew for loading and unloading. We highly recommend Jimmy and his team. They all worked hard and in NH didn't stop working until they were done, even to eat the lunch we had provided for them!

They did, however, move our stuff into both the NH home as well as a nearby storage facility. The move took 2 days - packing the moving trucks on day one. Day two consisted of driving the trucks to NH and unloading them.

Description of Work: It was an in-house move. The workers moved two couches to my basement and one chair up two flights of stairs. They removed a 3 piece theater style seating set and a chair from my basement. They moved two piesces curbside for trash removal. Why would I pay almost $500 bucks for this service? Simple - my husband and I can no longer manage this type of activity! We work everyday to be able to pay for things we can no longer handle. The two men arrived a little after 8am and were gone by 9am. Polite, professional, and knew exactly what they were doing. NICE. Thank goodness someone provides this type of service! Personally, to me it was worth every dime👍

+ -1 moreI felt the communication to get to my move date was a little confusing, and up until a day or two before had no real confirmation. But once they came and did the job it was superb. The movers were on time and very careful about all of the furniture...pointing out issues before they packed anything. They did not scuff any of my newly painted walls and placed everything exactly where it needed to be. They even took extra time to lift everything for me whle I put felt on the bottom of my furniture to protect my hardwood floors. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: Moved us from our 4th floor apartment to our new home. Furniture and big/heavy stuff only (no dishes, glasses, knick-knacks, clothes, etc.)

Very nice experience, highly recommended, will hire again. In fact I already have a shed demolition project in plan.

+ -1 moreJimmy and his guys did an excellent job on two separate moves. We had to move our stuff into storage for a month and then into our new home. Through all that moving, not a single item was damaged. Every wall in the house was pristine, they really did a great job. I had provided bad info on the amount of stuff to be moved and even that didn't phase them. Jimmy said they would figure something out and they did. Jimmy made everything easy and I really am thankful for that. I would definitely use them again - a great outfit from top to bottom.

+ -1 moreJimmy was very professional from the first contact via email (estimate) to the last minutes of the move. Although, we paid 25% more than quoted, we have also significantly underestimated the number of moved boxes and pieces of furniture. The crew worked relentlessly for the straight 12 hours (from 9:30am till 9:30pm) helping us not only with moving but also setting up furniture in the new house. Jimmy was also nice enough to lend us wardrobes boxes till we were comfortably unpacked. We highly recommend his services and we will be using him in a near future for other moving needs. I would also like to advise to tip the crew well after the well-done job.
Description of Work: Jimmy and his 5-people crew did a 12-hour total move from our townhouse in Secaucus to a new house in North Bergen county.

I cannot say enough about how great an experience this was for us. Dave and his team (4 guys total) were punctual, efficient, knowledgable about how to pack and arrange/organize and they were extremely polite and friendly. They worked very hard for two days and always had a smile on their faces. We plan on using them again when we send some things to a storage facility. With A Man with a Van & More you get what you pay for: STRESS FREE MOVING. Highly HIGHLY recommend them!
Description of Work: We moved from a 2.5 BR in Ossining to a 2BR loft in Brooklyn. Jimmy came to look at our house and gave a quote for packing & moving. His guys came the day before and packed & prepared for the move the next day (8 hour day). They arrived on time the next morning and finished packing and then met us in Brooklyn and unpacked the truck and unwrapped & reassembled the beds, etc (whatever they disassembled) in about 2 hours.
