D Allen & Sons Contracting

I have had D Allen & Sons for several jobs, going back to 1985 when they sided my home. It still looks as new as it did back then. I recently had a piece of the siding blow off in a high wind. One of the boys came out and repaired it using part of the piece that blew off as well as a piece that was in my garage for low these many years. You can't tell where the repair was made. Also, in 2008 they did my roof. It was a tear off and then new roof. The work was done in a day and half, everything cleaned up and good as new. 2 years later I had them come out and put up new gutters (should have had it done with the roof, but my mistake). I would recommend them to any one for any kind of job. They are prompt, professional, their prices are right on, and do excellent work. In fact, on my recommendation, they did our church roof. I am very pleased with the work that D Allen and Sons did on our house. It is like we have a brand new house! Both the roof and siding turned out great. We originally were only looking to get siding done, but Martin informed us during the estimate that our roof was in very poor shape. Martin did a great job explaining all the different materials and options for us and was not at all pushy. I thought the price was fair based on other estimates we got and the amount of work to be done. The roof was finished in two days. All of the workers were professional, answered any questions I had, and did a wonderful job of cleaning up. The siding team was a little behind, so we had to wait a bit to get that done, but it was worth the wait! The siding completely transforms the look of the house and the trim work around the windows and doors really stands out. Once again, the entire team was professional, skilled at their work, and did a great job cleaning up. My only complaint for the whole process would be that there could be better communication regarding scheduling. We were not given hardly any warning when the work was to be completed. In fact, for the siding job, I happened to notice a man in my yard measuring, went out to talk to him, only to find out that they were planning on being there the next morning to start the job. This was inconvenient for me because I work an odd schedule and would have liked to plan around it better. Overall, this is a great company that provides quality work and I would hire them again.

The job went well overall. The siding looks really good and I was impressed that the crew came out and worked in the cold and snow.

Wonderful family company. Did all work as promised and the results were amazing! The workmanship was expert. The crew was very respectful and polite. It's like I have a new house. The neighbors are jealous. My new awning is so attractive it makes the side of the house! I would recommend this company to anyone wanting the job done right.

He explained everything very clearly and was not at all daunted by the extra work (like building the porch roof) that we requested. This was not the case with other contractors who often saw these things as extra problems. The quote was quite reasonable given the size of the house and extra work/materials. The installation crew was fantastic. Everyone in the project was extremely professional and helpful. All my questions and requests were promptly taken care of. For example, the bottom of the original siding was stepped by our garage and we asked the crew if they could bring the siding down to get rid of the step, even though that part only had concrete behind it. The crew was able to attach the siding so that the bottom of it was at the same level all the way across. It looks much better. The trim work was expertly done and very detailed. They did a great job of properly re-hanging the gutters, fixing a number of problems that we were having with them. The work went quickly and I had a hard time keeping up with the crew to get the gutters painted before they were ready to put them back up. When I did run a bit late, the crew was very patient and completed the work after I finished repainting the gutters.

I am extremely happy with my choice to go with D Allen and Sons. It took me over a year to find a contractor I felt I could trust who was willing to complete and guarantee their work for a fair price. D Allen and Sons did a great job tearing off two layers of roofing, repairing damage, installing a new roof (including a portion of the roof that was flat that many other contractors wouldn't touch), and replacing/fixing some of my gutters. This is a family who takes a lot of pride in their business - they were always professional, on-time, and polite. Martin was very professional and knowledgeable when he came to give me an estimate. Dennis scheduled his crew to begin immediately after I signed the contract and showed up on site to make sure everything got started okay. The crew was fantastic - hard working, friendly, and cleaned up well after the job was done. When I had a concern at the end of the job about a miscommunication about one of the gutters, Martin sent someone immediately to take care of the situation. I will absolutely be calling this company again when I'm ready for some new windows and siding.

They gave me an estimate, there were no hidden costs. Completed job exactly when they said they would. They worked neat and were respectful of my property. Always available for questions or concerns. The house looks great.

It went great! The guys came early in the season and worked through rain and hail. They arrived consistently on time every day until they got the job done no matter what the weather was. They cleaned up the mess outside every day properly (I have 2 small children and didn't have to worry about work materials and nails all over the place). Their work is detail orientated and my house looks like new! The guys were friendly and honest. from the moment Dennis Allen came to give me an estimate I knew these were the right guys for such a big job. There were a few small things that they had to come back for and honestly I thought I was gonna be waiting all summer but as soon as the shutters came in they returned to tie up a few loose ends. Dennis Allen & sons got the job done right!j

Dennis and Dave are great! I knew within the first 5 minutes of talking to Dennis that he was going to be my contractor. He is extremely personable and has been in business for over 30 years. Dave is his head guy and leads the siding team and they've done a job that exceeded my expectations. When I told Dennis the colors I chose, he paused for a minute because (I guess) it seemed a bit unusual. But then he was full speed ahead and coming up with ideas that I'd not even considered. Their special touches have made it a bit unique in its design. My house is nearly a century old and quirky. I'm sure it has not been an easy one to do and they'll be happy when it's finished. But they've done a stellar job and I'm very glad I chose them. Next time I have some funds to do something, I'll be calling Dennis. Hopefully they won't be scared off by this job. (His price was just about the same as every other contractor that I considered. I was going to give him a B for that, because an A would indicate he was less expensive. Then I thought about all the extra attention and I went A)

Dennis provided a very detailed estimate with product samples on the spot. No down payment was required. Work completed prior to originally projected start date. Yard was left neat and tidy.

From our initial meeting with Dennis, we felt comfortable with his sales presentation. His estimate arrived timely, reflected a good price after researching other contractors, and he followed up to see if we were interested in using his family run business. The work proceeded on schedule. The original completion timeframe was 2 weeks, but with additional hands, took them one week. They were on the job daily at their stated time. When the job was done, we were very pleased with the quality of their work and the site cleanup. We've already asked them to do additional work on our +100 year old home.

Dennis was professional and courteous throughout the process and took the time to answer all my questions as I like to know how the process works and the products involved. The crew arrived first thing in the morning and worked till 5pm and started job again on time next day and was done in the afternoon. One of the vents installed was missing the down spout, but it was a simple communication problem. There was a pipe up in attic in the way, once I was notified of that I went up in attic to remove the block and Dennis sent out a person the very next day to add the downspout for my bath fan hookup. Excellent service. I am very happy with this contractor and would highly recommend this company to others. They used better quality products than other roofing estimates I received.

Dennis Allen is the real deal. Straight forward, up front and he actually answers the phone! We had three attempts at getting this relatively small siding job done with usual chasing around companies, poor communications, no call backs, and outrageous estimates or no feedback. We started trying to find someone to do this job in April, with two dead end referrals and a poor performance from one of the so called home improvement companies. Finally, after signing up with Angie's List, we saw DAllen and Sons with good reviews in September. When I called, Dennis answered the phone, listened to my sad story and made an appt to come out on a Saturday morning. He called us about 45 minutes before our appointed time, he would be slightly delayed as he had to get the crew going for some emergency repairs (this was the Sat after a bad windstorm). How refreshing to get this kind of communication, Dennis was really only 15 minutes past our original time. His company was booked until Dec, but would call us and come do the job as soon as he could. No upfront money required, pay him when I was satisfied with the job, amazing. The afternoon of Dec 1, Dennis called, there would be a break in the weather tomorrow, they will be there to do the job at 9:00 am. The crew showed up at 9:00 am (once again, amazing), within 5 minutes they were on the roof and beginning the tear off. When I returned home later that afternoon, everything was buttoned up, not a scrap of trash and a first class job complete. These folks were not the most and may not be the least expensive, but they are worth every penny. No run around, no phone tag, no empty promises. They will now be the first place I go for my home improvement business.

I contacted them to get an estimate for some roof repair (missing shingles) and to replace an exterior door in approximately early November. They came quickly for the estimate which was the last positive interaction. The property is rented out so i was not present when they came to do the estimate and hence couldn't talk over with him the details. I never received a call back after the estimate to tell me how things went or when i could expect an estimate. I had to call them back after a week of not hearing from them. At this point i was told they were sorry for not calling but they were busy from a wind storm in the area. Fair enough, we all get caught up and busy with work sometimes and some things slip through the cracks. I was told they had an estimate on their desk and would call me first thing the next morning with the details. I was never called the next day. Another week or so and thanksgiving go by and I called them again to see what the estimate entailed. I was then told they were going to pass on the work because it was and quot;too many small thingsand quot;. I don't know what that means, but from our previous conversations, it sounded like he was willing to do the work. Not sure why he changed his mind and then never called me back, leaving me hanging for so long. I can't rate his work, and i'm sure its fine, and hopefully others have had positive interactions with him, but my experience was poor and i will not be contacting this company for any work in the future. I gave him a D and not an F because at least he didn't lie to me and set up a time to do the work and then fail to show up. That would be the worst.

Dennis came out shortly after we contacted him for an estimate. Gave us an estimate the same day. Provided us with several samples when deciding on colors for siding and roof. Dennis did everything he said he would. Very happy with the work and the his crew who seemed very knowledgeable. We had a few things at the end we wanted taken care of and he was true to his word and took care of everything so we were satisfied.

Dennis provided an accurate estimate that was reasonable (and less expensive than other contractors). He doesn't use subcontractors, he has his own teams as employees. The work was done soon after signing the contract and did not drag on for a long time. The work was completed as expected.

We are very pleased with the work performed by D. Allen and Sons Contracting. We felt confident hiring this company right from the beginning due to Mr. Allen's expertise, pricing and the overall estimate process. We received other estimates but they did not even come close to the confidence level we experienced in dealing with Mr.Allen. His crews were courteous, used absolutely no foul language and cleaned the property very well every day. Both Mr. Allen and his foreman, Mark, answered all our questions and tended to details immediately. Mr. Allen even offered his opinion on the color of shingles to be used and his suggestion was perfect. We went with the slate color and it is perfect. There were a couple of small extras that he included in the orginal price. No monetary surprises at the end of the job.We paid exactly what was quoted at the completion of the roofing job. Mr. Allen was very highly recommended to us by several homeowners in our town and we can say that we were very happy that we chose him.

We called D Allen because of his favorable ratings on Angie's List. We received our estimate from Dennis Allen, along with many other estimates. We had this problem and thought it was fixed several times throughout the years but deep down believed that the leaking was due to rain/snow getting into the walls thru the ornamental brick. We thought Dennis was very and quot;old schooland quot; and definitely liked his style. He was very confident and knew his stuff. We were hesitant about and quot;just coveringand quot; the brick, but he seemed to restore our confidence that he would solve this issue for us. We decided a few weeks later to go with D Allen and called Dennis. He said he had a few jobs in front us but would be in touch. 2 months later I'm wondering when he would and quot;get aroundand quot; to us. I called a few times. He was supposed to come out a few times, but apparently and quot;I had been confused.and quot; (no, I wasn't confused) After another call, this one more direct, Dennis set a date to come out. However, on the morning they were to show up to do the job, they discovered they had received the wrong color siding from the manufacturer. Really? No one thought to check the order when it came in? You would think someone who did this for a living all the years he did, would've checked the order prior to loading the truck to start the job. So, I didn't like the color that was sent, so he re-ordered. And I continued to call. I even called the manufacturer to see if our order was placed!! Anyway, once the order arrived, Dennis' crew came out and finished a and quot;two dayand quot; job in one. They were very professional, completing the job very well. They cleaned up after themselves, leaving no garbage or cigarette butts. They were respectful of my property and landscaping and worked well together. All in all we were happy with the job, once he came out with the correct supplies. The siding looks great and we are very happy how it was installed. The true test will be once we get the wind and rain from the Northeast. ***UPDATE***We have had Northeastern storms since this work was done almost a year ago. Knock on wood, we have had no leaks. We truly believe that Dennis's work fixed the problem. Confident that the problem outside problem has been resolved, we have now scheduled the inside plaster cove moulding to be replaced/repaired by another Angie's List provider (that report will be forthcoming once the job is completed).

During the proposal process Dennis Allen was very direct and honest. He told me exactly what he would do, when it would done and what products he would use. He answered all my questions with specifics and pointed out options to consider and identified all costs. A much better process than I experienced with the other two contractors I contacted for quotes. Dennis was the only one that was really prepared to bid for the business. The quote from Dennis was slightly higher than the other contractors who quoted, but with him I was confident I knew what he was going to do and why. The level of confidence caused me to pay a little extra for his services and I am glad I did. At the tme for payment I knew exactly what the bill would be, there were no surprises and I paid exactly what the quote indicated I would pay. The job proceeded exactly as planned except for one rain day that was simply a weather issue. The work crew was on time, worked hard and made themselves available to answer my questions and explain why they were doing what they did. Not only was I happy with the job they did, I learned a lot during the process. While on my property the crew was very respectful, cleaned up at the end of each day and the final clean up was in great detail. Further, there was no foul language from any of the workers and I appreciated their sensitivity around me and my family. I highly recommended D Allen and Son Contracting for your roofing needs. I will be using them in the future for some window replacement, not even considering going to another contractor. My roof is really nice! You can use D Allen and Sons with confidence.

I know I won't have enough space to say all the good things I should about this Company. I took 4 bids from roofing/siding companies in the Buffalo area. Dennis Allen (owner) came out personally and impressed me from the beginning with his experience and professionalism. I probably would have given him the job based on how he responded and his personal attention even if he had been one of the higher bidders. Boy was I impressed when his bid came in the lowest and his company had the liquidity that he required no down payment and no money until half the work was done to our satisfaction. We were not easy people to work with during the design faze and Dennis made about 7 trips out to our house and even met me at my workplace once to help us decide on materials. His teams of workers(both siders and roofers) all work directly for him, and are all extremely polite and courteous. They cleaned up very well after each day of work. We were especially impressed by his siding team of David and Josh. David has been with him as job foreman for over 30 years and is a true artist with his siding ability. They went out of their way to complete special requests from us while on the job. I actually gave all the workers generous $$ tips for their efforts. I wish there was some way to put a picture of my wife and myself standing in front of our NEW home on this site, because we are so pleased with it.
