Bob gave us an estimate on upgrading knob & tube wiring in our house. Later, we found out it is unnecessary to upgrade knob and tube wiring, but Bob let us think we should upgrade. He was messy and slow. He seemed not to want to do the job. He wouldn't clean up after himself, he said he wasn't paid to clean up after himself. Took him 9 weeks to finally install the new service box. Then we were bombarded with warning notices from ConEd that we hadn't properly upgraded. Bob said don't worry about it, I'll get the inspector to come by. Weeks passed. Then Bob calls and says, ''can you guys go through the house and make sure all the switches work and then label the circuit panel? After you do that, then I'll call the inspector.'' He couldn't even label the circuit panel! Inspector comes. In a week, a notice comes saying inspection was passed. The next day, I get a bill from Bob! So Bob took forever to do a job which didn't really need to be done but sent the bill right away.

Response from BOB'S ELECTRIC CORP
I AM VERY SURPRISED READING THIS REPORT FROM THE MEMBER. AT NO TIME DID I GET A HINT OF DISSATISFACTION FROM HER. I WAS GIVEN AN INSPECTION REPORT WHICH LISTED KNOB & TUBE WIRING SHOULD BE REPLACED, AND IN SPEAKING WITH THIS CUSTOMER, I POINTED OUT THAT THE KNOB & TUBE WIRING WAS LEGAL, HOWEVER IT IS NOT SAFE AS THERE IS NO GROUNDING WHICH COULD LEAD TO PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRONICS AS WELL AS AN ELECTROCUTION HAZARD. WE REWIRED WHERE POSSIBLE AND GROUND FAULT PROTECTED AND LABELED "NO EQUIPMENT GROUND" AS PER THE NEC (CODE). I TAKE A LOT OF PRIDE IN MY WORK, AND I TRY TO KEEP MY WORK AREAS AS REASONABLY NEAT AS POSSIBLE. I WOULD NOT LEAVE A MESS IN A CLIENTS HOME AS I WOULD BE UPSET IF ONE WAS LEFT IN MY OWN. AT THE SAME TIME, THERE WERE PAINTERS, TILE MEN, AND VARIOUS OTHER OF THE GENERAL CONTRACTORS MEN DOING CARPETING, PLUMBING AND OTHER TASKS. IN REGARDS TO THE SERVICE UPGRADE THAT WAS PERFORMED ON THE HOUSE, WITH THE MEMBERS RUSH TO GET THINGS DONE INSIDE THE HOUSE SO THEY COULD MOVE IN, THE SERVICE WAS THE LAST THING TO BE DONE, IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION, ANY ELECTRICIAN WILL TELL YOU THAT THE PANEL MUST BE LABELED TO PASS INSPECTION. I WAS MORE THAN WILLING TO LABEL, BUT ASKED THE MEMBERS HUSBAND IF HE WOULD LIKE TO LABEL IF I TOOK $200 OFF THE BILL, WHICH HE READILY AGREED TO DO. THE MEMBER DOESN'T RECALL ME STAYING LATE TO MAKE SURE HER CABLE AND INTERNET WERE PROPERLY WORKING, EVEN SPENDING ABOUT AN HOUR ON THE MY CELL PHONE WITH THE CABLE COMPANY.
