I found Husband For A Day on Angie's list and hiring Mr. McDeid was the best decision I made. He was responsive, professional and I am beyond excited with the quality of his work. I LOVE my new kitchen. I had a budget and we worked to figure out where I could or needed to spend the money to achieve the look and functionality I was going for and where I could save - new kitchen cabinets were costly so we made the decision to refurbish and move some of them. I couldn't be happier. My next project for Brian will be to build a kitchen island for my eat-in kitchen area. Can't wait!

Brian installed the toilet improperly. Asked him for many months to come back and stand by his work but he would not. The toilet is unlevel and the toilet seat wont stay up. Around the same time he did a sloppy job on kitchen flooring. Also wanted to be paid to fix where he cut corners and now mice are running through the house. We didn’t have either of these problems to begin with before we hired him. Also very difficult to communicate with and doesn’t like to give estimates so he can gouge you after you think you are paid in full.

Response from Husband For a Day
Miss [Member Name Removed] purchased her beautiful but older seasonal lake house back in the fall of 2016 and I have been working for her right up through July of this year. After working for Miss [Member Name Removed] for almost two years it's unfortunate it has come to this. Regarding the toilet seat I agree the toilet seat won't stay up. I have since offered to fix it. I still am offering to make this right. The floor in the bathroom is not level. It was NOT installed by me it was installed by Home Depot and the original toilet was old and had to be replaced. I installed the new toilet and it is secure and flush with the floor, but the toilet seat won't stay up. Again, I have offered to make this right. Regarding the "sloppy" job on the kitchen flooring, I did NOT install any flooring in [Member Name Removed]'s house. Home Depot installed it. In the past couple years I have done TONS of work for Miss [Member Name Removed]. I painted the exterior of house, various repairs, installed windows, installed french doors, removed an interior wall to expand her porch and made it into year round living space, removed the dock, trimmed trees, removed debris to the dump, yard work, and many other repairs. In addition, and because she lives in NJ and she rents out her house on the lake, she would call and ask me to address certain emergencies like check the pipes to see if they were frozen or deal with a squirrel issue because tenants were scheduled to be on site the next day which I did. Obviously, my work and my pricing were satisfactory to Miss [Member Name Removed] or she wouldn't have continued to hire me or trust me with her credit card. Unfortunately, things went downhill over a window job she wanted done. She didn't agree with my estimate and I was not hired to do the job.

Brian was able to repair the roof of our shed and repair the foundation siding in December when I first contacted him. All of the contacts were done by phone and text, since the job was located in NY State and I was in Massachusetts. Brian was unable to repair some shingles on the roof of the main house because of the amount of snow that we had this year. He returned to finish that job today (May 28) after I contacted him when I was back in town. His charges were reasonable and the work was good. There was one small problem with the initial job that he fixed when he returned today.

He is good at coming promptly in a crisis such as broken doors etc,but expensive. On major jobs such as a remodel his quality is poor and he is very expensive. If you use him be sure to get a written contract in advance. I only use him in emergencies.

Brian went out of his way to get the job completed. Company we purchased the vanity top from built it incorrectly. When the company said they could not deliver the new one when we needed it,(even though it was done ) Brian not only picked up the correct top, he also dropped off the wrong top along with some other merchandise that we did not need. This way we were able to receive the credit on our account faster. The bathroom turned out better than I thought it would. He was by far the cheapest quote. I have also used him on other job prior so I know he is honest and trustworthy. I would highly recommend him.

The job was a complete success. The work was done quickly and well, and the best use was made of every team members time and expertise. Once Brian understood what I wanted, I was freed up to supervise the work of the other people and coordinate the job. There were moments that we had to improvise and vary from the original plan, and that was no problem for Brian, as he was very flexible in his work style. His expertise far exceeded the job, but he worked at it seriously and the quality of his work was excellent. It is worth mentioning that when the children of the household came home from school and were curious about what was going on, Brian was great with the kids and cheerfully answered their questions, while not being distracted from the job. Ditto the arrival of the parents. As a woman often dealing with contractors and people in all of the trades, I have sometimes experienced a subtle devaluing of my expertise and an unwillingness to perform tasks as I want them done. The opposite was true of Brian - he was cooperative, supportive, and respectful of me and I really appreciate that. Moreover, he was willing to contribute his considerable expertise to this job which, along with his great attitude, made the day a pleasure and the outcome a complete success. I highly recommend Brian and plan to enlist his services again soon. I wish he lived in Los Angeles!
Description of Work: I am an interior designer in Los Angeles, CA, and needed help with the installation of custom wondow treatments for every room in a large home in Rochester, NY., and the job had to be completed in one day. I contacted Brian and described the job, which was a very small job for him, but he was willing to help me out. Of necessity, all of the arrangements had to be made via telephone, and Brian was a careful listener and asked the relevant questions. On the day of the job he showed up early, completely prepared with ladders, tools, a range of hardware and everything that could be needed for the job. As a designer, I so appreciated his professionalism and knew right away that I could rely on him. I had a team of four people, and Brian listened to exactly what I wanted done, and then made contributions of his own that sped up the job and made it go more smoothly. Each installation had its own challenges, and many required on-the-spot-customization of the hardware brackets or poles, which Brian accomplished easily, cleaning up as he went. It was a long day and he was willing to stay past the estimated time to get the job done.

The estimate was for the family room and the living room. I don't know what the estimate was for but I remember we had to buy the materials. They were very friendly and very helpful. They arrived on time and we got a quick response with the estimate. Overall we would have been satisfied with them if we had not known someone who gave us a better price. They were very good and I did like them very much.

Generally he arrives on schedule and is willing to tackle most any job. His pricing is generally very reasonable and I believe he is honest and trustworthy. My only problem with him is that he admittedly hates reading directions, and this has lead to his making some small installation errors that had to be corrected. He's polite and cleans up after his work.
Description of Work: I have used Brian's services over the last 9 or so years. He has installed outdoor light fixtures (3 times), run a dedicated 30 Amp electrical service into the garage, installed a carbon monoxide sensor, installed a disposer and kitchen and shower faucets, power-washed and stained a deck, painted house trim, cleaned rain gutters, and performed many small handyman jobs around the house. Brian is knowledgeable and capable in many areas. He has installed new roofing on neighbors' homes and did assorted maintenance chores for a friend I recommended him to.
