The hardwood supplier recommended 2 contractors to install the flooring we liked. We choose Jason because of his attention to detail when talking about how the job would be done. I did some prep work to save money and the supplier delivered the flooring a few days before Jason and his son came to install the floor. The room was cleared of everything but the flooring and the underlayment paper. They moved the boxes to one end of the room and started. I had assumed that the flooring would only extend under the door of 2 closets, but Jason recommended 'doing the job right' and running the flooring to the entire inside of a cleaning closet and under and around some built in drawers in the closet beside it. He was right. It looked much better, even if most of the time it will not be seen. I just didn't think he could do that without spending a lot of time, but he made it look easy. All the doorways and transitions to the hall, a powder room and kitchen were finely detailed. With his oscillating tool he cut under molding and added new sill plates where needed. One of the first things Jason mentioned was doing a 'picture frame' band in the floor around the fireplace structure that projected into the room. The mitered corners were perfect and the two courses of wood looked great around the fireplace base. By the end of the first day the room was done and it looked great. No cupping, gaps or unfinished parts. The general layout of short and long pieces was nicely scattered so the grain and light and dark tones were evenly distributed. My wife found one tiny staple that was overlooked. We put a piece of tape there and Jason said he would be back to fix it the next day. After he removed it and filled the tiny hole, you could not fine it again. Very happy we choose hardwood to go with the rest of the flooring. After you add up the time and money of other surfaces, it wasn't much more money and a lot more durable and beautiful. We are glad we choose a craftsman to lay it out and install it.
