Description of Work: They installed a well. They installed a water softener and removed my acid neutralizer with repeated assurances that my pH level would be good. IT WAS NOT. Told me to have it tested by a lab and submit report to them on lab's letter head, which I did. On return visit, person who came never saw the report and didn't do anything. After calls between individual and lab, I still have problem and have not heard from anyone at this company. I want reimbursement of $2,000 for needlessly taking my acid neutralizer unit and now I have to install another one.

Original Message -------- Subject: RE: Subject: [Member Information Removed] From: Date: Wed, November 11, 2015 10:45 am To: [Member Name Removed] P" <[Member Information Removed> Good Morning [Member Name Removed] I wanted to acknowledge that we did receive your fax on Monday, 11/9/15 regarding the lab results letter dated for yesterday 11/10/15? We spoke to Environmental Labworks Inc., regarding your test results and it was described that your PH tests are showing “low” for hardness. Normal PH should state 6.5 – 8.5 and yours is currently 5.8. Deda is recommending that we will need to return to your home and will need to raise the hardness levels on the softener its self to accommodate the water situation. I also mentioned the “acid neutralizer” you had mentioned to me that was disconnected. Deda said that unit was non-functioning at the time it was disconnected and I wanted to also make you aware of this. Please let me know when you would be available for us to come back and make these proper adjustments on the softener. We look forward to hearing back from you. Regards, ~ Violet J. I specifically asked Peter many times and the technician who was here last if this would impact the oxidizing process and was told everything was okay. Well, IT IS NOT. You said my acid neutralizer was not working and removed it and now I am left with green film and God only know what this is doing to the pipes. Also where is the manual? I LOOK TO YOU TO RECTIFY AND CORRECT THIS BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT FREE AND I REPEATEDLY ASKED ABOUT THE ACID IN THE PIPES AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. [Member Name Removed] -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Member Name Removed] pagnelli From: Date: Thu, November 19, 2015 2:55 pm To: info@dakaplumbingandheating.com All, The attached test results show acidic water which would require a pH increasing system. There was a neutralizer and softener on site installed in 2008 and were functional as of Feb 15, 2015 at the last service. The iron results are still pending and upon receiving them a proper calibration could be found for the newly replaced softener. Daka Plumbing and Heating will need to advise as to why the neutralizer was removed and why it was found to be non-functional. Thank you, Joe Lynch Hudson Valley Water Resources, Inc 845-255-4050 ---------------------------------------------------------- 12/28/15 Clearly, as you can read in the emails we made several attempts to explain to Ms. [Member Name Removed] that our services performed were acceptable. We went several times to her home and also explained that water softener installed will alleviate and clean the water but there is no way we can stress this to her anymore. No unit will be 100% for the clearing. We will NOT reimburse this customer for a unit that was installed and is working. Please refer to some of the email trails attached above discussing and explaining our reasoning. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office or email to further discuss.

Don't bother calling them. They are a waste of time and money. You'll need a real expert to come back and perform real service. This company pretends to provide air conditioning services, but they do not have the equipment or the expertise to do that. I explained to them clearly that my air conditioner had a leak and I requested an estimate for repair. It took the technician 1.5 hours to check out the unit and then he spent 30 minutes on the phone with his boss to prepare the estimate. When he presented the estimate to me, it was over $2000 and the technician explained that it would not be worth repairing it. He suggested refilling fluid on an annual basis until I was ready to replace the entire unit. He further explained that the company had limited equipment needed to complete the repair and it would not be available for a week. I asked if he would fill the unit with fluid, and since the leak was slow, would he come back and perform the repair when the equipment was available. He said he would do that. When he was done, he presented me with an invoice that included both the price of the fluid and a charge for two hours of labor. Most of his time spent at my house was fumbling around without any clue of what he was doing--including preparation of an estimate. To top it off, I left the house to allow it to cool for a couple of hours and when I returned, the unit had leaked entirely! I called another service, which was much more knowledgeable and professional. I watched as he examined the unit to detect the leak and he used a detector that the Daka technician did not even have. The second tech found the leak in less than 5 minutes and his estimate for repair was a third of what Daka proposed. He also told me I should describe the needed repairs to Daka and ask them to do the repair and credit me the money I spent on the lost fluid. He said he thought it would be a professional courtesy for them to do that. I was outraged with Daka and called to complain. I spoke directly with the owner on three separate occasions over the next month and each time he promised to call back with a resolution for the situation, but he never did. He seems to be perfectly satisfied to misrepresent the capabilities of his company and to rip-off his customers. In the end, I asked the second company to return and perform the repair. They did an excellent job and charged about the same price as what Daka charged for the fluid alone and did all the work in half the time that Daka spent fumbling around.

They put it in and it would not start or work. They subcontracted it to someone who I had never seen. They did find out the issue and they got it working. The guy left the area very messy and we found that there was a leak after this. They found it was an elbow was too close to the ignition of the furnace and we called another company to get rid of the gas leak. We called them and left a message and Daka never got back with us. For the past plumbing work we used Felix and we trusted him and we found out that Felix was not there and that is why they had someone else do the work. The owner assured us that everything would be fine, and it did not turn out that way. Response to Daka Plumbing in regard to my review. We were never told by any employee of Daka Plumbing that there was a gas leak--I smelled an unusual odor and called my propane provider to come and investigate. He found that there was a leak emanating from an elbow very near the furnace that Daka's people had installed--not the gas company! We trust this company completely and asked them if they could fix the problem. They used a sensor device to find the leak. They came back the following day and modified the fitting. My husband DID call Daka immediately when we were told there was a leak, and left a rather pointed message that he wanted the owner to call him back--we never heard from him again! As far as us using this provider previously, we did, three times to be exact. We were pleased with the work, but we always dealt with one of Daka's plumbers-Felix, who was excellent. He was the one who came to our house and explained how the furnace would be installed, so we expected him to do the work. When I asked the owner why Felix wasn't doing the work, he said he no longer worked for him.
Description of Work: They put a propane furnace in a loft area in a garage. We used them before this for other plumbing work.

Response from Daka Plumbing & Heating LLC
In response to the member’s comments above: Yes. On 9/27/12 Daka Plumbing was hired to install a new Goodman warm air furnace. The furnace was installed and yes it did not start so Mr. Daka did call upon another technician from our company to further investigate the problem and found that there was a gas leak and told the member to call their propane company that initially installed the tank to properly make adjustments and we will gladly return to get the unit started as promised. We never heard back from the member since that there was ever any other complains about the unit not starting. Why not call us now to solve the issue but rather turn to the web and bad mouth our company. Daka Plumbing has been doing business with this member since 2004 and never did we ever receive any complaints until now. The file has gotten very thick over the years that we have been going to this member’s home. As far as for the former employee, that was mentioned above he was with our company for 2 years so how is it possible that they did not know our employees when we arrived at their home with company trucks with our company logo plastered all over who else would arrive? If the member did have an issue starting the unit they should have called our company and stressed their concerns to us. We would have had no problem to return to the member’s home to investigate the unit. It is just distressing to hear that a customer of ours is disgruntled about our work performance and we must read about it online and rate us poorly for one occasion that they felt this way. Again, I will reiterate that this member has been a customer of ours since 2004 and why is it that they never until now made a report such as they did for a superior service in the past and present us a with a superb rating for previous work performance?

UPDATE 10-23-13 We got the Better Business Bureau involved and Daka didn't even follow up with them. They responded to their first inquiry, and we responded to that one. After that, Daka ignored several attempts for the BBB to reach them. They now consider the case closed and so do we. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. ORIGINAL STATEMENT: We called Daka Plumbing because there was an alarm going off regarding our septic pump. The service provider showed up two hours late and did not call. When he did show up, he explained that he got lost. That is understandable. We had our system pumped a few weeks before so we knew exactly where the two septic openings were. When we told Tom from Daka exactly where to dig, he did not listen to us and explained that he had to dig up my entire front walk to find "what's under there". After listening to my explanation that we know exactly where everything was, he continued to disregard our instructions. My front walk, along with all of my perennials were destroyed. When he did finally dig where we told him to, he immediately found exactly what he was looking for (after destroying my front walk). He then explained that our septic pump motor was burned out without doing more than looking at it. . He said he had to come back for further investigation/work. The second time he came, he was over an hour late, still with no phone call, and we made sure he had all of our contact information. Before digging the entire septic pump out we stopped him because he didn't seem to know what he was doing. We then called a wonderful company who showed up on time and looked at our lawn and front walk with horror. The first thing that the gentleman told us was that the quote that Daka gave us for the new pump was overpriced by 300%. The pump, plus the labor would have cost us over $4,000! We looked online and found this extremely overpriced septic pump to be exactly that. I can understand marking up prices, of course, but to this amount seemed to be excessive to the point of fraud. My husband immediately called Daka to tell them this and we were told by Violet, the woman who answers the phones at Daka, (these are her exact words, she was on speaker and I heard her say this) "If you like the internet more, why don't you go buy it there and install it yourself". My husband said thank you but no and we asked the professional from the other company to begin investigating the problem. Within ten minutes he found out exactly what the problem was. The person from Daka did not even do the most basic troubleshooting of our septic pump. There was nothing wrong with it but a loose wire connection! The total cost of the repair was $280, a far cry from the $4,000 that Daka assured us we had to pay for a fix. We then called Daka again and spoke to Violet, explaining exactly what had happened with the reputable company. Violet then explained to us that they would be sending us a bill for over $600 for the "work" they did, telling us that the man was here for over five hours. I was present the entire time and his total time on my property was two hours. I have work emails I sent from my home IP address during the entire time he was here for both visits and can prove in a court of law if I have to that I was there the entire time. Today, on September 19th, we received a bill for $675 that Daka is demanding we pay. We are happy to pay for the two hours the worker was here, but for no more time than that. They are now not answering our calls or returning our messages. If we do not hear from them within the next few days (and we will continue to call) we will be calling the Health Dept (the other company told us to do so, as this is possibly hazardous work they would have done) and we will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. I have never done anything like this in my life. I have never had to call any BBB or County department in my life and I have never written a bad review of any service we have had done to our home. This is an egregious misuse of power, time and money if we were foolish enough to let them work on our septic tank. DO NOT USE Daka PLUMBING! You might not be as lucky as us and stop them in time. My front walk is still destroyed and I have to go buy all new perennials and grass seed. The gentleman from the reputable company was nice enough to fill in all the holes the worker from Daka left in the front of our house, and smooth over the dirt as much as he could. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Response from Daka Plumbing & Heating LLC
To Whom It May Concern: This letter is in response to letter sent to our office from the Better Business Bureau, dated 9/19/13 regarding the above named person(s). On September 9th, 2013, our office received a call from [member name removed] stating that he was having issues with his septic pumps. He went on and on exclaiming how he really wanted our company to go all the way down to Putnam Valley, NY because he did not trust any one else. He proceeded to indicate how we are a reliable & reputable company and that he gave his friends referrals about our company since he was very pleased with our work in the past with us. I explained to [member name removed] that we would arrive in a few hours from his call because we had prior appointments already in progress and arranged. He said “No problem! I will be home today and I will wait for your technician to arrive”. We pulled off one of our technicians off of another job to go to [member name removed] home and investigate the problem he was experiencing with the pumps. Our technician arrived to find the alarms on the pump going off. Located the septic tank with out the knowledge there was a pump station. Found septic tank to be a 1000 gallon tank and the tank was found full which needed desperately to be emptied to avoid any backups in the home. Our technician had to hand dig to get to the pump station. And, when indeed it was found it was found burned out. The customer was told by our tech and explained what needed to get done. The septic tank needs to get pumped out and the pump needs to be replaced with a new. A quote was given to the customer for the replacement of the sewer ejector pump of $ 3,400.00 plus NYS tax. In that quote, we included and factored in the labor cost, the pump itself and to pump out his septic tank. NOT THE PUMP ALONE! [member name removed] then called our office and agreed to do the work the following day and wanted to know if he can give half the money down in cash to start and finish the job and pay the balance in two (2) weeks of job completion. Mr. Daka agreed to this considering he was a customer in the past and paid. After a short while of this conversation over the phone had taken place, [member name removed] called back again at the office to ask what are the prices we pay for the pumps and materials and stated “well I found something similar online and why can’t Daka install a pump for the price I am find them for on the web” I explained to [member name removed] that we do not order materials from online. We use our own suppliers. We will guarantee our work with our own materials used and not what is ordered from the customer or from the web. I told him that we warrantee 1 year on our workmanship and will honor the manufacture warrantee if there should be a future problem again. He then said “well I guess I have no choice but to install it considering it would take much longer to order the pump from online and have us install it.” It was made clear to [member name removed] that any materials used that did not come from Daka Plumbing would not be warranted. A 3rd call came in a few minutes later again from the same customer and stated the he has a “friend” that can help him out since money was tight at the moment and that he will not need our services. He then stated “maybe I’ll just get my septic pumped out from you guys”. This customer was very indecisive and at this point I told him to call other local plumber and get other quotes. I also explained to him that Daka Plumbing is not looking to rob nor scam him but gave him a rather great quote to include all that was stated above and we did not even charge him the travel time since he requested he wanted our company to do this work. [member name removed] was never in these conversations with my self nor with my technicians. Every conversation that took place was with [member name removed]. I am unsure why [member name removed] took it upon herself to say such things as she did in her brief statement that she submitted. On 9/10, we were on route to the [member name removed] residence to pump out his septic tank and received a call to not show up and to just send in bill for our expenses which we did. NEVER did either [member name removed] nor [member name removed] call our office again. I do not know why she stated that she left messages at the office. We always return customer related calls promptly. Along with this letter, please find a copy of our invoice that was sent to the customer and also a signature letter of which how the money should have been broken down for payments as requested by the customer if work had started. If you should have any further questions about this matter, please feel free to call our company, email us and or mail. Daka Plumbing would like to maintain the accredited A+ standing with the BBB and with his customers and also, with Angie’s List we were accredited a grade “A” for good customer service and work performance. We have been in business for a long time and we thrive to make our customers happy. Sometimes, there are just some people we can not please and we need to walk away. The crooks are the short time businesses that fail immediately. Just goes to show that Daka Plumbing has been in business for over 25 yrs and is still going strong.

Do NOT hire Daka Plumbing! We needed our septic fields replaced, met with some septic companies, and went with Daka. Price-wise, they were a little less than the other guys, and we liked the owner. A very short time after the job was completed, there was a wet patch on our lawn right over the spot where Daka placed the new fields. When I first called the owner about it, he said "We ran out of room for enough fields there." We have an acre and a half; there was plenty of space for the fields. After researching, we learned that Daka used half the fields he should have, and no gravel underneath, which is standard; a must have. Then he made many excuses for the failure of the new septic system, and wanted to charge us almost the full price again to fix the installation. Do NOT hire Daka Plumbing!
Description of Work: The old septic fields were replaced by new fields in a new location, chosen by Daka Plumbing.

In response to [member name removed] complaint, we as a company at Daka Plumbing strive to make ALL of our customers happy. In addition to keeping happy customers we also report to our customers of recommendations if needed. In [member name removed] case, Daka Plumbing did inform them of their issues at the time of install of their fields on 6/16/09. We installed 7 infiltrators, backfilled and leveled out the ground. And we also recommended as stated on their original invoice which it states: “It is recommended that additional drains be installed from all 5 of the down spouts to divert water further from septic fields. Also, more ground curtain drainage is necessary. Because of the water consumption from the run off of the back of the hill and standing water at the rear of the garage the fields could be in jeopardy as a result of the standing water and lack of ability for ground absorption”. The [member name removed] clearly did not want to peruse the additional work as suggested by us and instead tried to give our company a “bad name” by their wrong doings by writing untruthful things that we did or said, by going on the internet and bashing our company & and also by taking our company to court. There was a reason why we also won in court because we documented the property and had taken pictures of what was done and what should have been done as stated above to the owner. We have been in business for over 25 years and have been in good standing with the BBB. Our A+ grade is there for a valid reason. We only perform high-quality work as it should be done with no exceptions. It is people like this that try to condemn good standing companies like ours.

We were traveling when our daughter called to say the water at home had stopped running. We had the same problem the day before we left. My husband instructed her to locate the Pressure Relief Valve and gently tap it. (This was how he fixed it previously.) When that didn't work, I looked up Angie's List and gave her the number of DAKA Plumbing. While they didn't have a lot of reviews, the ones they had were all positive. They sent two techs who also tapped the valve and got the water running. They were here for 10 minutes and presented a $125 bill with the notation: Recommend PRV to be changed.and quot; No sooner did they leave when the water stopped again. They were unable to return for several hours. A tech came and in 20 minutes time replaced the problem valve. We arrived just as he was preparing the bill. (He called someone who told him what to charge.) We were charged $351.81 for this second visit. The only info on that bill is and quot;replaced PRV, cleaned check valve.and quot; The bill was actually $385 with a $50 credit applied. I asked the tech what the credit was for and while he was uncertain, he thought it was because of the first visit. Neither bill had any breakdown at all of the fees. I emailed DAKA. I told them I needed an explanation as to why the valve was not replaced initially as the first tech noted it was faulty. I also said that I wanted details as to what the specific costs were. They replied that the first tech was trying to and quot;save me the expenseand quot; of replacing the valve and that they charge $125 for one hour of service regardless of the actual length of the call. For the second service call, they said they did not have the pressure valve and needed to pick one up. DAKA stated that the Pressure valve cost $175 and that I was charged $150 for service, labor and time spent driving to and from the plumbing supply store. (NOTE: The second tech had the valve with him when he arrived. He never left to pick up anything. We live within 2 miles of Home Depot and the largest plumbing supply business in the county.) Since I looked up the price of these valves and they are in the $30 - $50 range, I requested the name of the store where this $175 valve was purchased. I also pointed out that the two service calls totalled 30 minutes cumulatively and if they needed to stop for this part along the way, it was a short drive here. I waited 3 days for a reply to my email asking where this $$$ valve was bought wherein I also stated that this was the first time I ever had a contractor fail to correct a problem in the first place and charge me for an additional service call. When I did not get a response, I sent the email a second time. Still nothing from them. DAKA Plumbing is one of the absolute worst contractors it has ever been my displeasure to deal with. I hope that by relaying my costly experience that others will reconsider contacting them.
Description of Work: Two service calls on the same day for no water. The first tech noted the Pressure Relief Valve needed to be replaced but left without doing this repair. The water stopped again requiring a second service call for the work the first tech never did.

They were very quick to respond to our initial call for a quote, and after quoting it out were able to get to work almost immediately (only delay was a slight one for weather, which none of us can control). The crew were sympathetic to our needs, including working to get one of our showers tied into the tank as early as possible in the process, so that we could slowly start to return to a normal life, while they continued to do the rest of the work. There was a minor hiccup in the process of putting the fence back together where they put it back together slightly wrong (they put the panels of pickets up in the wrong order, so the slope of the fence didn't match the slope of the ground) but when I pointed it out to them, they quickly corrected the mistake.
Description of Work: We had an old house with two cesspits and a drywell, each having its own separate plumbing in the cellar. The drywell failed leaving us unable to shower, do laundry, or dishes. They installed a complete septic tank and drainfield, and then tied together all three separate systems into a single unified plumbing path leading to the new tank. This included then sealing up holes in our cellar walls leading to the (now-abandoned) paths, as well as carting away a significant amount of older cast-iron plumbing that was no longer useful. This work also involved removing our fence so their equipment could get in position, and then replacing the fence, as-is, after the fact.

I called the company between 1:30 and 2 pm because I came home from work and the oil furnace wasn't working. I explained everything I had done, and the receptionist said she would make some calls and call me back and was going to try and get someone to me today. The gentleman came and had it fixed (clogged nozzle) by 5pm that same day. What a relief, it was getting cold out.
Description of Work: The service man came and seemed to test and look at the furnace and all the parts of it. He determined it was a clogged nozzle and replaced it. He asked me how many times I hit the reset button, I lied and told him twice (don't lie and don't hit the reset button more than 1 time) When he started it up it plumed black smoke for a couple of minutes, but I oped doors and windows. This happened because I hit the reset button 3 -4 times.

Deda is the person who runs the company. He was very nice and helpful. He did a good job as well. He is a good guy. They came and serviced it once. It has been running very well since then. We once had an ice storm here and we lost power one night. So, I called Daka Plumbing and Heating and they had a guy on the other side of the Hudson River. The guy then came over at 1 o’clock in the morning with the generator. I told him that the generator blew up the bulbs. He was looking at it at 1:30 in the morning and it was cold and snowing outside. He was looking around to see what he could do to help us out. It turned out that the long wire from the generator which we had it hooked up inside so that you just have to plug it in was actually not wired properly by the other electrician. That is what caused the lights to blow in the garage and things like that. It was just a horror story. This guy cost me more money as well because he rewired the plug. It was about $400 to $500 for the air handler and everything else. I would use the services of Daka Plumbing and Heating in the future too.
Description of Work: Daka Plumbing & Heating installed a new furnace for us about three to four years ago towards the end of summer.

They come immediately and don't keep me waiting. Everybody that I have interacted with has been very courteous.
Description of Work: They restored our septic field and installed a new septic tank. They were able to fix what a previous company had done wrong. In addition to this, we have them come out for any plumbing needs that we have.

Initial replacement (11/24/08) of tank and pipe was done in 5 hours; seemed reasonably proficient, although job could have been done in half the time if time actually spent working is counted. Biggest issue is heavy machinery was left in yard and trailer was left illegally and dangerously parked in street for the next 9 days causing much consternation to the neighbors; including call to the NY State Police. In addition, several large(2-3 foot) pieces of the old tank were left above ground during this time. The ground was not leveled at this time, and I was unable to replant an uprooted bush nor the displaced bird feeders. I did make multiple calls to the office and heard everything from "they'll be out tomorrow" to the "truck broke down" (2x). The bill was paid the day the tank was installed so there was no excuse for the finish of the "landscape" and to take the machinery away. As I write this, it is still unresolved, 12/3/08.
Description of Work: Check clogged sewer pipe, replace old tank, and replace intake pipe.
