In 2016, problem determination was performed by an electrician early in his career. He mis-diagnosed the problem (assumed it was in the underground service) and the president of Blanding Electric (Matt) came out and determined the problem was in the GFI breaker in the electrical panel. Matt said he would provide an estimate, and what he provided was a proposal to replace the GFI breaker for $350. I thought this was too expensive so I did not have the work done in 2016. In 2017 I called Blanding and spoke to Matt about the work and asked why the estimate was so high. Matt said that it is estimated to take about 2 1/2 hours of work. I also spoke to Mark, who said the same thing. I believed them and had them send someone out, thinking that this proposal was an estimate and that I would be billed by time and materials. I never signed the proposal. I was very surprised when the electrician came out and completed the work in less than 10 minutes. I expected to get a bill that reflected just the one hour service call, but instead I was billed for $350. When I called the office about this, I was told that a proposal was binding and that was how much I owed, no matter how long it took. Finally, Mark agreed to revise my bill to time and materials and gave me a new price of $239. My issue with Blanding Electric is that Matt, who is a master electrician, did this "proposal" for me knowing that it most likely would take less than 10 minutes to replace a breaker. Even with adding some time for possible problems, it is highly likely that this could be performed within the first hour of labor that is included in the $125 service call. I believe this was dishonest bordering on fraudulent. I was a customer of Blanding Electric for at least 10 years and I had them work on a major home renovation. At that time there were different personnel in charge who were more trustworthy. I was told by Matt that they do less residential work now and do mostly commercial and it appears that they no longer value their residential customers. I would not recommend using Blanding for residential electrical work.
Description of Work: Outdoor lights were not working. Problem determination was needed and then the problem needed to be fixed.

It took them a couple of day to complete the work. The only concern was when one of the guys left his tools, and took some of mine. He brought them back, so it was no big deal.

They were very efficient, explained anything I asked them, and they cleaned up everything and vacuumed afterward.
Description of Work: I had a problem with a small heater constantly popping a breaker, and I also needed a backup for my sump pump. The tech first checked the circuits where I had my heaters and did some repairs / updating on them to try out to see if it would work without running a separate line. The heater would run for about an hour and then pop the breaker. I called them to let them know and also received the information on the backup system they were looking at and sent me estimates to approve. The day they showed to do the work, I expected it to be an all day affair, but they were done just after lunchtime. They ran a separate line for my heater near the bedrooms and installed a backup system for my sump pump.

Wonderfully! Would definitely hire them again. Our kitchen lights had stopped working and we couldn't find the problem ourselves. We decided to bring in a pro instead of getting in over our head in a house that is old and notorious for some very and quot;creativeand quot; wiring done by the original owner who was a do-it-yourselfer. We were braced for the worst. When I called Blanding, I had to leave a message. They called me back promptly, and gave me a choice of either having work done the next day or the following day. The electrician arrived shortly after 8AM on the day we scheduled, and had the entire line troubleshot within an hour. He was very professional, courteous, and pleasant to deal with. They aren't the cheapest game in town but quality is always cheaper in the long run. These folks come when they say they will, they they don't waste time, and they do it right the first time. We will definitely hire them again.

Scott came out and assessed the job the day I called. He scheduled it within 2 weeks. The apprentice electricians arrived on time. The job was more complicated and required more parts than they originally assessed so it took them longer, but they completed the work fine and stuck to the original estimate with no extra charge. I would definitely hire again.

They were fantastic. There's three people that take care of this house, so the finances go through someone else and I didn't know and they hadn't paid the bill. There was an issue for a long time and they still were very easy about it and didn't charge me a late fee although the bill was not paid for six months. They're a little on the expensive side, but I don't mind paying extra for the better work. They had to run a bunch of conduit and run a new line from the basement, so it really wasn't that bad of a price. They also did two heaters for me two years ago and it was, again, phenomenal service. The cost for that was $1,500, but it was pretty involved and they were great in every way from the estimate to the final day they were top notch. They were prompt and the first time we used them they answered the phone and did exactly what they said they were going to do. It actually could have been more work, but he found a way to run the wire which was easier than running a conduit all the way outside the house and they didn't charge me extra for it. The conduit was ran beautifully and neatly and they didn't make a mess in the house. They were nice to my tenants and made things very easy. They're honest and their work is really good. Their responsiveness impressed me the most because I had so much trouble just getting people to answer the phone and show up when they said they would. My first impression of them was when they said they were going to be there on a certain time and a certain day and that's exactly when they were there. I wish they were closer to where I live so I could use them more often. They were one of the best electrical companies that I've used and I've used hundreds.

They arrived promptly when called. The technicians were professional. They did everything I asked them to in a timely manner and were very careful about not letting my cats out. They also make sure they picked up everything that could have been dangerous to the cats or any garbage that my fell on the floor. They also cleaned up all dust that was created when they made the wholes for the new outlets in my husband's office. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needed electrical work done. We had never used an electrician before and this is our first try and I found them by Angie's list and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I needed a whole new electrical panel. I also needed a whole new cable coming from the line that comes to the house to the meter which they replaced. They replaced switches and outlets. And they also installed two new outlets in my husband's office.

Blanding got there on time the morning the work was scheduled. A master and apprentice electrician was assigned to our job. The first day was spent replacing the electric box, which was very complicated and had lots of breakers. They realized they couldn't finish that day and offered to schedule the next day for the remainder of the job or to reschedule when convenient. We rescheduled for the next day and they came early and completed the work. They asked about placement of all outlets that I wanted to ensure they were where I wanted them. After the job was done it was found that the dedicated 110 for the garage freezer was tripping the GFI in the garage. Blanding came out promptly, stood by their work, and made it right.

Blanding Electric sent an estimator, Scott C. out to my house the day after I phoned the company. He was on time, courteous, and extremely professional. He was very friendly and besides just writing down what the job would consist of, we chatted and got along very well. He told me I would have an estimate via mail in a day or two. It was exactly that. The price was very good for the amount of work I was having done, and I didn't hesitate to hire them. The day before the scheduled start, I got a call from Dave to see if he and his partner, Pat, could start ahead of time, to do some of the 'surface' work. As I am semi-retired, I told them to come on over. The two men showed up and began working immediately. They were here approximately 3 hours and the job was more than half completed. The workers were professional, friendly and very polite. They told me when, and for how long, the power would be off, and kept me posted as to their progress at regular intervals. Before they finished for the day, they cleaned up the area in my basement where they were working. They returned the following day, and completed the job. They walked me through everything they had done and made sure any of my questions were answered to my satisfaction. They cleaned up the work area, inside my basement and outside of the house where the meters were located. They double checked everything before they left. It was a very unstressfull couple of days, thanks to the way they conducted their business. On a related topic, the coupon on Angie's list was an added bonus. It saved me $68.75, and more than paid my membership for quite some time.
Description of Work: Converting a double family home into a single family home. I needed an electrician to remove one of the electrical meters. Because I live in an older home, I decided to have my old fuse boxes taken out and replaced with circuit breakers, while the meters were being worked on, thus killing two birds with one stone.

They have done the work for me in the past. Our whole area was flooded out, so they were overwhelmed with the work. The work that I needed to be done was not flood related, so I think they were high. They were fine. We also have a terrible long walk-in closet that had no lights whatsoever and the closet work seemed very simple to me because they had to drop one down from the attic line. It seemed like a high bid because they wanted $200 to light our closet, so that's why I wouldn't score them perfect. They showed up on time for the estimate. The estimator was prompt. They came over when they said they would come and they did it professionally. The price seemed reasonable, but the closest thing seemed unreasonable.

very poorly. no timely communication, complete failure to deliver any estimate or service. Bogus charges for having performed no work or service.
Description of Work: I requested a FREE estimate to have work done involving a hallway light fixture in late August. the day of the apointment arrived September 3 and I recieved a message on my phone 10 minutes before the apointed time saying that Scott would not be able to make the apointment because of an emergency. I called the company 4 hours later and was told that Scott makes his own apointments. A month later Scott called and asked to set up another apointment. I made an apointment for October 12th. On OCT.12 a subcontractor named Mike showed up and looked at the fixture on the porch. I asked about getting an estimate for a new 200 amp service and he said he would send an estimate in 2-3 days. On october 28 , 16 days later I recieved a bill for $175.00 and no estimate for any work to be done. No work was done. A FREE estimate is not a service call. Looking at a light fixture is not performing work, failing to provide an estimate is a waste of my time.charging me $175.00 to fail in producing a FREE estmate or to perform any work or service is grounds for fraud.

Great Job Blanding! Rick R. was fantastic, very informative, thorough and professional. He troubleshoot the problem and repaired the kitchen outlet and circuit breaker in question. The price seemed fair for the work done and the amount of time spent. Rick did a great job answering questions and educating us on the equipment in our home. We would hire Blanding again for any other electrical work to be done at our home.
