Front step Bluestone concrete was cracked and the concrete underneath was crumbling. Salt and elements accelerated the problem this winter. Called on a Saturday afternoon, Cleiton was there within an hour! By evening, an emailed estimate arrived. Job commenced, Cleiton was there every day, with an additional helper. Cleaned up EVERY night, the job site was cordoned off for safety and Cleiton communicated adjustments that were necessary as the project ended up being a bit more difficult than we thought. (The underlying concrete was crumbling and had to be re-poured.) Overall, EXCELLENT job and though it was a bit more than estimated, the price was fair for the work done and done beautifully.
Description of Work: Front entry steps rebuilt; after harsh winter and aging concrete.

The contractor did not perform any work for me, but he did provide an estimate which is a very important part of the process. I suppose being a construction manager makes it difficult to find an appropiate price for work done on your own home. Its like finding a doctor for a doctor. I fully understand that there is a difference in cost between commercial work and residential work. The scope of work that I wanted a price on was for 1320 sq/ft of brick pointing, with the replacement of two 42" window sills. Mr. Cleiton arrived promptly and was extremly professional, it was refreshing, he knew exactly what was necesssary and i was sure that he was the right man for the job. A few days later I recieved an estimate for 17500 which works out to be 13.58 per sq/ft when the price range is from 6.00 to 9.00 depending on difficulty and height of work. I spoke to Mr. Cleiton about this and his response is that he would do a good job. Don't get me wrong there is a certain amount of difficulty, which requires building scaffolding on neighbors property but not deserving of a 50% increase of pricing. On the other hand I was sadden that Mr Cleiton outpriced himself from doing work on my house because I felt he would do the right job but he was extremely expensive and with masonry work like this there is always unexpected cost.

Response from Cleiton Masonry Inc
We are very sorry to disappoint you and make you sad about our job price, unhappily we couldn't make it better due to the difficult of the access of the job. We hope you find some other company that can do the same quality of the job that we want to do for you, with a reasonable price that you expect. We thank you for the opportunity in serving you in this estimate, and we hope to have a chance to work with you in the near future in any other kind of masonry work that you need, once you seem a really nice person!

All work was done perfectly, everything looks like new! And, even better, Cleiton and his workers are punctual, courteous and they listen carefully to what your needs are. They also stay in touch if a problem comes up -- in my case, the project was delayed because of lots of rain, but I immediately received a rain date and they went to work as soon as the weather cleared up. And, as you have probably notices, the price was amazing. I received much higher estimates from other contractors because they insisted on doing unnecessary work, like building a retaining wall that was clearly not needed. If I need any further masonry work, I will unhesitatingly return to Cleiton.
Description of Work: Re-set slate steps, repaired eroded concrete in driveway and installed a small Belgian brick wall to contain water runoff

I called Cleiton Masonry, letting them know that I found them on Angie's List. He, Cleiton, responded immediately with a visit to the job site and an estimate for the work to be done. It took four days, one of which was too rainy for work, so it was really only three days. The work was very painstaking and rigorous. I was so impressed at the efficiency, neatness and regard for our yard. I did not even have to mention the importance of the new grass. Very considerate. The finished job is beautiful, all stones (those old almost slate type) are back in place and he replaced the broken ones, including the matching mortar. I highly recommend. This is in a suburb 10 miles from NYC. It is not so easy to find reliable people like Cleiton Masonry, Inc.
Description of Work: I actually use Angie's List and have been very pleased with the work. We have a long winding grey stone front walkway that leads to the street. Cleiton removed the stones (placed in original pattern to be returned properly). He installed matching "treads" on the steps for security. He removed all of the very heavy rubbish, left no "evidence" of the work that he did, other than the fact that the walkway is now safe and beautiful!

The work was done in a very professional manner. Cleiton and his helper arrived promptly every day for a week. They also took time to clean up before leaving for the day. When they demolished the old staircase it was discovered that the stairs and the landing near the top lacked support--it was hollow underneath. For safety reasons, this required some additional work and expense to us for the added labor and materials. Bluestone treads were installed and there was a lot of stucco work. Cleiton is a perfectionist and has very high standards for the work that he does.
Description of Work: Date of report: 4/10/09 We needed to have the flight of steps in front of our 47 year old house replaced prior to installing a new iron railing. An area adjacent to the stairs had cracking stucco and needed drainage holes.

Cleiton delivered! He was professional, communicated, and advised me on additional work that was not seen at the initial estimate before he continued the work. He clearly explained everything and the finished work appears to be excellent. Use this guy!

This was first-class service from beginning to end. The owner had a full understanding of what I needed and made intelligent refinements based on his experience. The firm was on time, quick, and responsive to my needs. They weren't the cheapest estimate (nor the most expensive), but I justify the additional cost because it's essential to get front steps right in terms of safety and appearance, and their craftsmanship in selecting stone and attending to the finish were exemplary.
Description of Work: Replace and widen front steps, meld new surfacing materials with existing platform.

I telephoned the office and was given an appointment to have the job looked at and give me an estimate. The appointment was kept on time and what would need to be done was explained to me. I was given an estimate of $990 and when I asked about discounts and mentioned Angie's list I was given a 10% discount. I was satisfied with the price considering that the work would take two days. On the day the work was to begin there was a delay, but I received a call from Mr. Goncalves informing me that he was delayed on another job, and asking if it would be okay to still come. I appreciated the courtesy of the call. The work was completed in the two days and was done well. I was pleased with the finished product. The area was left clean and neat.
Description of Work: Scraped off paint from the garage wall located on the outside patio and installed stucco on the garage wall. Removed cracked portion, about eight feet, of stucco on ledge in front of the house and replaced stucco in that area.

When we bought our house we knew we wanted an invisible fence for our dog. Unfortunately the steps that were there were going to the left side of the house and in order to get the fence we knew we needed steps going to the right, which is also the direction of where the driveway is. We were given the idea to make a patio as long as we were redoing the steps. Everyone else wanted to use the existing steps and build them into the foundation. Cleiton wanted to wreck what we had and start from new. He also gave us an estimate to do this that was thousands less then everybody else's. When we realized that Cleiton was the cheapest quote for the most work, we knew he was the man for our job. We also had a step on the side of our house that was 12 inches from the door. We asked Cleiton what needed to be done and again he gave us a very reasonable quote. We didn't even look elsewhere. The work he did and the work his subcontractors did was the amazing. He coordinated everyone so perfectly it was like clockwork, one showing up after the next. He finished the project faster then we expected and it looks beautiful. I wish we had another project so that we could hire him again.
Description of Work: Cleiton excavated steps and a platform (which went the wrong way and were uneven, see below) and prepared the area in order to build a new platform and steps in the back of our house with a concrete foundation, cement block, and existing bluestone. He also built a new platform and 2 steps on the side of our house.

It took a bit of mutual calling to fix the time and date, but the work went efficiently and was done well.

It went perfectly. Cleiton came when he said he would. His worker knew his stuff. He picked out the old cement, and piped new cement into the gaps. The worker worked very responsibly on his own. Cleiton came by to check on him, and sometimes worked with him. They were responsible, honest and a pleasure to have around.
Description of Work: Cleiton and his assistant erected a scaffold to access the three floors of field stone wall that make up the base of my home that needed re-pointing as we were experiencing leeks. He took great care to study the situation in advance, and once what was needed was clear, his workman came every day and worked carefully and steadily. They were quiet, responsible, and very thorough with their work. Cleiton was very concerned that we were happy with the quality of the work done, and seems to be a genuinely kind person. Due to weather, the work took a half day longer, and Cleiton kept to his original price.
