Ken Sonders and Eastside Interiors is my "go-to" contractor for any renovation and general contracting needs. He is reliable and reasonably priced. His staff is skilled and meticulous. I would highly recommend Eastside Interiors.
Description of Work: I've had Eastside Interiors do several jobs for me at different times and in different apartments: in a post-war apartment building, he enclosed a dining area to create a bedroom with pocket doors and renovated an entire kitchen. When I moved to a pre-war building, he handled a total bathroom renovation, created useful closet space and did the painting/sanding/skim coating walls and installation of matching moulding and refinished the floors.

Kenny and team were excellent throughout. Top quality work product. Painting, flooring, marble tiling, etc, all very high standard. Professional approach, clean/tidy workers. Developed a great relationship with building Super and staff. Very responsive - even after the renovation was complete would come back to do small jobs. Overall we are very pleased with Kenny and Eastside Interiors.

We got multiple quotes from contractors for this scope of work, and Kenny's total price came in at one of the most reasonable. I felt reassured with him for two reasons: there were no questions about having a licensed electrician, and he was able to provide suggestions for items I didn't even consider, like choosing sheetrock with soundproofing, or considering having the floors sanded. I also appreciated that he gave us a quote with separate line items, so we could choose which things were worth the cost. In the beginning of the job, I was confused why he wasn't on site to help me communicate with the Glazer and the Electrician, but Kenny's response to my email inquiry was very fast, and he assured me that his project manager, Rodwin, would be on site at all times moving forward, and was the person I could report to/communicate with easily. There were adjustments as the project progressed (which is to be expected) but each adjustment went smoothly, and Kenny was patient with us. They wrapped up by the date promised, and we brought up a couple small issues. There was one scratch in the new wall that needed repair - Rodwin came in the very next morning before I even arrived at the office to fix it. Also, about a week later we realized something was wrong with the dishwasher we had them install. I emailed Kenny about it, and he responded immediately with "Tomorrow, 9am." The very next morning, Rodwin was back at the office adjusting the dishwasher and explaining what happened. Very much appreciated. For any future contracting needs, we'll be calling these guys again.
Description of Work: Kenny & his team helped us freshen up our office space before moving in. They split one large conference room in two by building a wall in the middle and installing a glass door for the new room. They put electric outlets on both sides of the new wall, adjusted the location of the light fixtures, as well as adjustments of HVAC so both rooms had equal cooling. The team repaired + painted all the walls, capped exposed outlets, rewired some of the existing electrical, replaced approximately 20 light fixtures, and removed a wall of wood paneling + repaired/painted it. They also removed wallpaper from one of our bathrooms and repaired/painted those walls.

I am an Interior Designer and as such I have worked with many contracting companies over the years. Since being introduced to Ken Soinder;s company, EASTSIDE INTERIORS, I work with no other General Contractor. Ken Sonders, the owner, and his staff are both professional and experienced . They know what they are doing, know the codes and requirements for working in New York City and provide qualified and licensed people from plumbers and electricians to tilers and painters. Ken is extremely responsive and always stands behind his work-which is essential to me and to my clients. I have worked with Ken on a single kitchen and on full blown renovations and he has never failed to deliver a great job. He is competent, qualified, fair and affordable. I highly recommend him and his company.
Description of Work: Worked as general contractor on seven jobs I was designing. Work included demolition of bathrooms and kitchens, replacement of walls, gas and electric, replacement of hard wood floors, construction of new walls , plumbing, recessed lighting, plastering and painting. tiling walls and floors. Each job included all or only parts of the above.
Kenny did great work. The process of a gut renovation is never a pleasant experience, but Kenny did all he could to make it as smooth as possible. Some hints: - I would recommend working with an architect Kenny recommends, the one we found on our own was not great - One issue we had was with the cabinet makers subcontractors. I think Kenny has changed providers here, so it should be better. But I would only barely recommend Alpine Cabinets, and I would definitely not use Knossos Furniture (that one was our mistake, not Kenny's) - There are always delays in the process. In my case there were several causes: my building, materials suppliers, the contractor and my own mistakes. It is not possible to avoid delays no matter how much pre-planning is done, so just bake them into your plans Remodeling is an adventure, but working with Kenny is a pleasure. Kenny stands by his work and has no trouble coming in and touching up until everything is perfect. And the price is very reasonable. I would highly recommend Kenny. Feel free to contact me with any questions or more details.
Description of Work: Kenny redid our entire apartment. It was a gut renovation. It turned about fantastic, we are very happy with his quality and price. We would highly recommend.

Renovation went very well...estimate for completion was 3 - 4 months & this time frame was met..I was able to stay in my apt the entire time (except for the week the floors were sanded & stained). Kenny's staff was very professional..on time, cleaned up the apt at the end of each day, quality of their work was excellent & they did everything they could do to help me "survive" while the work was going on. After completion, had a few very minor follow-ups & Kenny was very timely in his responses .
Description of Work: Kitchen- complete remodeling - .new cabinets, counter tops, tile floors, back splash, appliances installed Bathroom - installed glass shower doors, medicine cabinet, new toilet, sink & cabinet & general bathroom hardware Painting - all rooms painted Installed molding throughout the apt Floors sanded & stained Replaced all doors throughout the apt Upgraded electrical work Added closet shelves plus new radiator covers for all rooms

Do expect a great job. Do expect to pay for value. Don't expect a warm cuddly engagement.
Description of Work: We renovated a 2-bedroom apartment on the upper East Side. The general contractor was professional, smart, and knew the ropes of getting the job done. His sub-contractors were all excellent, though his electrician was merely good. The general contractor worked well with our kitchen cabinet person and our architect. In fact, the architect was able to entrust so much of the job to the contractor and to ourselves (not so smart about these things) that the architect's fee was thankfully minimal. Oh, yes, if you want a warm, cuddly guy to hold your hand through the inevitable stresses of a renovation, this is not your man. Otherwise, he is the best!
Took a lot of time and I was forewarned of that. They tried to be clean in close quarters. One issue was that as I looked toward the end - I was the one who found work that had to be "refined" - base molding that didn't quite line up and base molding missing in one of the new closets. The pacing of his payments was very fair. I would use Kenny and his crew again.
Description of Work: Major reconstruction in one bedroom apartment in NYC. Complete redo of bathroom, (complete gutting of bathrrom) built in book case, building out closets, new kitchen countertop, painint, new closet doors, etc.

He started the project on time. I am a teacher so I watched the progression over a month go from three workers to two. The walls came out very smoothly but he did virtually none of what he promised on the moldings. The floor guy did not understand English and while they look much better, he could have done more to ensure that they were better sealed. The reason I decided to write in was that he was supposed to come back to re-install our shutters after the soundproof windows were installed. We had held back $500 to ensure that he would do this and he refused to return to our apt until we gave him a check. I offered a credit card (then if he didn't do the work, I would be able to fight it) but he refused. He never completed that work.
Description of Work: He was hired to skim coat (use plaster to smooth) our walls, paint plus sand and seal our floors. He removed shutters from our windows and was asked to sand and smooth pre-war moldings. We have a pre-war 2 bedroom 1 bath apt on the UWS.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the work. The contractor began on schedule; finished close to schedule; quality of work was very good; responsive to my requests; all work completed to my satisfaction including all punch list items.
Description of Work: For my entire apartment in Manhattan, removal of textured ("popcorn") ceilings; skim-coating and painting all walls, installation of new base molding, installation of new hardwood floors.
