New York Carpentry

In a word, AWESOME! Flavio is truly a master craftsman. I have an old dining room table that I love but it's been hard to sit at as there was practically no leg room. Flavio took a look at it and thought of several solutions. We ended up shaving some decorative woodwork on the sides and adding small feet. The sides look as beautiful and detailed as they were and the feet are stained to match the table exactly. I couldn't be more pleased! We were also having problems with using the space in our walk in closet. We had large shelves that weren't very accessible and weren't really being used, and only one flimsy closet rod. Flavio and his partner removed the shelves and installed two heavy duty closet rods. I can finally hang my clothes in our closet instead of rolling wardrobe racks! In addition to the beautiful work, Flavio was communicative, friendly, reasonable and punctual. He came buy to assess everything on a Wednesday evening, emailed me an estimate that night, and arrived promptly the same week on a Friday morning to take care of the work. He asked me questions as he worked on things to make sure we were on the same page. If you're hesitating to take care of repairs in your house or thinking of doing them yourself, don't think twice -- call Flavio. We originally hired New York Carpentry as part of an Angie?s List ?Big Deal? to rehang a set of uneven French doors in the dining room and to replace the casing around the doors. We had recently installed new baseboards as part of a flooring update, but unfortunately the new baseboards put the worn, yellowed original doors and door casing to shame! In addition, the profile of the new baseboards and shoe molding meant that the meeting point between baseboard and door casing looked slightly absurd. Flavio, the owner, was quick to identify a plinth and casing combination which would match perfectly with the depth of the baseboard and shoe, while also looking more substantial and attractive than the casing that was already there. We were so happy with the work that was done on the dining room doors we asked Flavio to come back and replace all the doors in the house and match the casing and plinth arrangement he had designed for the dining room. We also asked that the casing around the windows be replaced to match that around the doors. Flavio put us in touch with a contact of his at a lumber yard so we could order the doors we wanted. We were able to replace 20 existing hollow core doors with flat panel solid doors for a very reasonable price. Once the doors arrived, Flavio ordered the plinth and casing material and got to work with his coworker Toni to replace almost every door in the house. We ordered the doors as simple slabs (i.e. not pre-hung) and Flavio hung them perfectly, routing them for hinges and door handles and installing all hardware. In addition, while replacing the casing, Flavio took the opportunity to spray foam insulation around all exterior doors and windows. Each night, Flavio and Toni left the house neat and tidy and were careful to minimize the dust generated as part of their work. Much of the cutting, routing and planing work was done in the garage and we were still able to fit our car in each night, as Flavio and Toni kept everything well organized. At the end of the job, Flavio and Toni removed all of the debris generated. The price quoted was the price we paid, despite the usual small extras that pop up from time to time on a job like this. The cost for materials was paid separately and all receipts were provided so everything was transparent. We couldn?t be happier with the job Flavio has done. He is meticulous and believes that if a job is worth doing it is worth doing properly. More than that, he is a great guy to deal with. He?s punctual, honest and straightforward with a good sense of humor. It was easy to discuss different parts of the project with him as we went along. The new casing and doors are now in the process of being painted and look wonderful. It looks like a new house! We would happily recommend New York Carpentry to anyone and will certainly use them for our next carpentry project.

I purchased the deal to put paneling up. I showed them what I wanted, they said they couldn't do the work. They said they could only put up a straight wall. They suggested another job. They wanted to re-sand sheet rock for me for $800 additionally. I didn't want that done and declined. They are making it very difficult for me to get my job done.

Flavio, the owner, and his crew did an excellent job. The carpentry work is of the highest quality, and the work was done in a timely, professional way. Flavio worked with a local mill to recreate custom molding that was already in the house and he coordinated with lumber and door companies to ensure delivery and quality of the products we received. He also coordinated with other contractors, like the electricians, to ensure the final product was of the highest quality. He takes pride in his work, pays exceptional attention to details, and he ensured that he had the same vision of the end product as I did. Overall, the job took approximately 6 weeks. Flavio and his crew were prompt and professional throughout. They worked with my schedule, and made the entire process as easy as it good be for such a large job. I recommend New York Carpentry without hesitation, and plan on using him again in the future for some custom cabinetry work.

Provider was very professional with the work, they were courteous, and cleaned up nicely. Would definitely recommend their work.

I purchased one of the special deals for 8 hours of work. Flavio, the owner, was able to quickly schedule a visit to my house to see which project (from my long list) he and his crew could complete in the allotted time. I also asked him to give me an estimate for other work I had in mind. He gave me a date on the spot of when he could start work and said his estimate for the other work would be in my email inbox by the next Monday. The estimate arrived when he said it would. A week before the work was to start, he emailed me to say that his crew was actually available the next day and if they could start then! They showed up EARLY, two workers with Flavio showing up at the beginning and helping out at the end, finished right at the four hour mark (2 guys x 4 hours), and swept and mopped the area so it was cleaner than before they started! They built a new interior wall to the master bedroom. This didn't include any demolition, setting in the door, or taping and mudding the drywall. I reimbursed Flavio for materials - seemed a tad high - but the work was done well, and done quickly!

Excellent. Flavio was very responsive and got my job scheduled quickly, and for the time I listed as most preferable. He left a worker here for the day (8 hrs) and the job was finished neatly and professionally. I would definitely use New York Carpentry for future work. I purchased a coupon through Angie's List.

Flavio did a great job with all of the work. The floors, cabinet and saddle came out beautifully. He was punctual and professional, as well as the best price of anyone I have contacted. After this job he installed a floating floor in my mothers house which was a equally satisfying experience. I can not recommend him enough for any and all wood work.

Flavio and his worker John were fabulous!!!! From the start Flavio was very responsive, came to look at the work and had great ideas of how to go about adding doors/frames/reinforcement, etc. Gave me a timely quote and started the work soon after. Although he is a first-rate carpenter and clearly shows a passion for carpentry, he handled my much smaller handy-man list with the same professionalism and attention to detail as he did the the larger jobs. Flavio worked long days, adjusted the designs as needed, was courteous, and always cleaned up at the end of each day. I am so pleased with the final product of all he did, and I would not hesitate to use him again! (which I will in the near future for some kitchen cabinetry work!)

It was a tough job. The doors were not in very good shape. They definitely went above and beyond. I like that it is just Flavio and his helper and not some big company. I felt he really cared about doing the job right and charged a very fair price. Highly recommended.

Flavio had previously come round to quote on installing shelving and fixing these 5 doors. His quote was very reasonable and he was very helpful advising us of a supplier of live edge wood for the shelving. As we are still trying to source the shelving wood, we decided to get the doors fixed now as I found it very annoying not being able to shut the doors properly considering we are in a new build house. Flavio and his colleague were prompt and very professional. They set up their equipment outside and started working on the doors straight away. They removed and realigned the trim where necessary to allow the doors to close cleanly now and also allowing room for the doors to be repainted in the future and still close without binding on the trim. They cleaned up as they went and despite having had to maneuver 2 doors outside to plane them and then return them, no damage was done to our property. The total job was done in 2 hours with a minimum of fuss and mess.

They showed up early and did a fantastic job, completing it in one day and did cleaned up after themselves. I couldn't ask for anything more.
