MCAVOY DEVELOPMENT LLC

After the damage, McAvoy roofers did not show up again to work for several days. When they did return, they left at 1:00pm on a perfect weather Friday because, as McAvoy explained, they had to go to Happy Hour. McAvoy assured me they would return at 8:00 the following morning. They did not. Neither he nor Sargent returned any of my numerous calls to determine where they were and when they would return to complete the roof. Several days later, McAvoy showed up to my house, but left w/in 30 minutes because none of his crew showed up. As he explained to me, his crew was totally nondependable because they were "alcoholics and crack addicts." As a result of the blatant neglect and unprofessionalism of McAvoy Development and the interior damage, the sale of my home was postponed for approximately 5-6 weeks AND I had to pay $500 out of pocket for the deductible. I asked Sargent and McAvoy to please consider deducting the $500 I had to pay from my bill and/or splitting the difference of the additional carrying costs of my house (mortgage, insurance, taxes, utilities) for the time I could not put it on the market because of not having a crew to complete the job as promised and because of the restoration work that had to be completed as a result of their direct actions. They absolutely refused. If McAvoy and Sargent had taken SOME responsibility for their actions and the detrimental effects on my move and my future, I would not be writing this review. They took none.I paid half of the bill and told them I would pay the balance when I received receipts for additional materials and services they said they had purchased and provided. After I made this request, Sargent unbelievably had the nerve to threaten me with a mechanics lien, if I did not pay the balance immediately, knowing that I would not be able to sell my house with a lien on the property. In addition to being irresponsible, undependable and unprofessional they are also, in my opinion, extortionists. They demanded immediate payment for a extremely poor quality job that took a month and a half to complete (contrary to the week initially promised by McAvoy) and the grief, stress, and damage they caused me, but showed no such urgency to complete the job I was desperate to have completed. I appealed to them to do the right thing because it was the right thing to do, and instead they threatened to place a mechanics lien on my house. I believe that McAvoy Development should be held accountable and take responsibility for their actions. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and write this review so consumers can be made aware of the lack of work ethic, abilities, work quality, unprofessionalism and ineptitude of McAvoy Development, LLC and the same nightmare will not happen to anyone else. My dad says this is the way of the world and I just have to accept it and move on. I don't agree. It is because people accept it and move on that is allowed to happen and continues to occur.
