I have to say the finished walkways and patio look nice but the cost of getting them, not just in dollars, wasn't worth the aggravation. He kept telling us different things - the block was delayed, they can't deliver today, the weather was bad, we'll be here tomorrow - standard delay tactics, all the while telling us what a great job he was doing. At the end, he wanted to charge us extra for work that we had definitely discussed as part of the estimate, because he had to do "extra cuts", even though we had eliminated part of the initial design and saved him work. Plus it seemed he didn't have enough material at the end because he told me he had to go get extra stones from his uncle s garage to finish the job. Also he was in such a hurry when he finally did finish that he left a mess in our driveway. At the beginning, we had asked him to bring in a load of topsoil to cover the ditch he dug and even though we thought it should have been part of the job, we agreed to pay for it. When all was said and done, he gave both my husband and I different pricing for that work and then told us it cost him $75/hr per man times 3 to do it. Ridiculous, especially knowing the price of dirt, including delivery, plus guessing that he doesn t pay his workers anything close to that, and I know it took less than an hour - I have pictures! Oh yeah, one more thing. He had charged $50 to give us an estimate, saying it would be included in the cost of the work if we contracted him. Ok, fairly standard practice, except that at the end, he told us it wasn t. Another unexpected cost. He wasn t honest from the get go! Finally after both my husband and I had somewhat lengthy heated discussions with him disputing the extra charges, we paid what he asked for, just to make him go away!
Description of Work: We contracted for a drainage ditch (approx. 85' x 2') and grading to eliminate a soggy area in our backyard and two stone block walkways, front and back, and small patio off our deck.
