I signed up for the "BIG DEAL" of $99 for two hours of electrical labor with Twin City Electric. The deal is normally valued at $250. The owner Mike Murphy contacted me to set up a date for service within several days. He also contacted me several days before the date to determine what services I would be asking for. I had several-7 lights!-I wanted or needed replaced. Mark and Shawn arrived on time and were pleasant and friendly. They set to work after reviewing the areas for lights. They worked the entire two hours and were able to complete the work I needed done. They were professional and the work was excellent. I have lights again! I would recommend them for service and will definitely call them for any future work.i

Twin City Electric was extremely professional, courteous, and did excellent work. They did exactly what we asked and did not try to sell us anything we did not need. The guys worked efficiently and the work was beyond excellent. I have been disappointed by electricians in the past but I can honestly say I've found our electricians. My wife is an architect who is extremely fussy about any sort of contractor work that we have done at our house and she found Twin City Electric's work to be flawless. We give them our highest recommendation!!

These fellows were GREAT. They arrived on time and did more work than expected with 10 minutes to spare. I purchased 2 hours of electrical work. Expecting to have 2 ceiling fans installed and they were able to install a third as well in the time frame. The electricians arrived on time. They were polite and incredibly clean. They were very patient with my dog who loves to bark. I would definitely recommend and will call them again with my next "wish list"

Sean and Mark arrived on time and with a smile. They were very polite and friendly. They kept offering to do more so I could get my 2 hrs worth of work, but there wasn't anything more that needed to be done. They gave me piece of mind on my wiring, as this is a new place for me. That alone is worth a fortune! I would definitely recommend them and I would use them again myself in the future!

Sean and Mark from Twin City Electrical Company came to my home a little early. They were neat, clean, polite, soft-spoken, and respectful. When I complained about not having any power in my garage, they showed me a hidden ground- fault- trip on the outside of the garage. (Whoops. Thanks guys!) The men were extremely honest, taking the time to explain all my options. I chose to have an extra grounded outlet next to the original outlet so that I could plug in more devices and use a surge protector for the computer and TV. They were able to save me money at each step, while making sure everything was up to code. They always made sure that they left any area cleaner than they found it. I paid much less than I thought the job would cost. I would highly recommend the services of Twin City Electrical.
Description of Work: Twin City electricians listened to what I wanted to have done, assessed the situation, and advised me of their options. They ended up installing a grounded outlet (20A) for my computer and in the living room for my TV.

Mike Murphy was very prompt in emailing to acknowledging the purchase of the advertised special, and then calling to set a date and time for service. Sean and Mark arrived promptly and worked quickly and efficiently. They were pleasant, courteous and professional. They fixed a wall outlet and switch, installing new ones and making sure they were the right colors. They also installed a new ceiling fan. When they were done they cleaned up everything and even took away the old hall fixture and the excess packaging. I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them.

The tech found a small leak in a gas valve which he offered to replace. In the process of replacing the valve, which did not really appear to have a problem, suddenly the hot water tank failed to ignite. Hot water tank was replaced but not leveled when installed. For weeks after we were called to purchase their service contract. The whole process seemed shady.

Installation was excellent. Crew did a fantastic job. However, I spent a considerable amount of money and I have had problems since the installation. Service after the installation has been horrible. In less than one year, the sump pump backup alarm system began going off for no reason (March of this year). A tech came out and tried to trouble shoot the problem. He couldn't fix it and indicated that he would have to contact the manufacturer. He left the parts laying on a shelf nearby. I have repeatedly called and can get no one to give me an update. It has been months and no one has come back to fix it nor have they provided any updates. In addition to that, the HVAC system has a humidifier installed on it. The humidifier has not worked properly since one of their repair personnel came by to perform an annual checkup (about 6 months before the annual check up was due). Several people have been out to look at the humidifier but cannot find the problem. Once summer hit, it was not possible to trouble shoot the humidifier, so they have told me they will be back in the fall/early winter to look at the problem. I'm not holding my breath at this point, given the response to the backup pump alarm situation. Most recently, the main sump pump failed, less than one year in service. I will say Roy's came and replaced the pump quickly with no questions asked. However, they told me the new pump does not reset the warranty clock. The new sump pump warranty expires when the first one did. This still does not fix the back up pump alarm problems, which are still sitting on the shelf downstairs. They told us when they fixed the sump pump that they would get back to us immediately with an answer on the backup sump pump alarm.

The technician fromRoys came out twice as my furnace died twice in two weeks. He changed the rollover switch both times. The second time he told me that the furnace was beyond repair and that I needed a new furnace. So I asked him to write me up an estimate. He wrote up an estimate for over $8000! I was shocked, so I told him I would have to get some other estimates. Immediately, he began to backpedal from his estimate. His quote: "well, we may not be the cheapest, but we will do the job right. You understand what I mean?" I brought three other heating companies in to give me estimates. None of the three thought I needed a new furnace. All three pointed out I needed to vent my basement to avoid rollover switch problems. Out of curiosity, I still wanted furnace estimates. The three other companies provided me estimates in the $3000-3750 range. I don't know if Roy's techs work on commission or this paricular one was a scam artist, but they have lost a customer for life AND I always tell this story to family and friends and co-workers when furnaces are discussed.

They came out and did a maintenance check on our air conditioner. As they were doing this, 2 cracks were noticed in my furnace. After a consultation with the technician, i was given a price quote for a new furnace. I felt pressured to make a decision on the spot because of the danger of carbon monoxide leaking out. We decided to have Roy's install the new furnace even though we did not get other estimates. On the day of install, they were on time, polite and very thorough with their work and explanations. The only thing I was disappointed in was that as part of their service they installed new smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in our home and my old ones were thrown out without asking me if we wanted them. They were purchased only last year. Five days later one of the carbon monoxide detectors began to beep. I called the company and was told they were unsure how long they had been sitting on their shelf and to change the batteries. I did that and several hours later it beeped again. When I called back and explained the situation, the receptionist said they do not guarantee the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Even when I explained that it was five days old she insisted all they would do is send someone out with a new one and I would have to pay for it and a service call. She became rude and gave me the phone number for the carbon monoxide detector company and then put me through to the manager's voice mail. I did not want to wait for one from the company and my call to the manager went unanswered. After two days without the detector, I phoned Mike the original person who came out and checked my air conditioner and sold me the furnace. He had assured me at that time that Roy's prided themselves on their service. He immediately took my call and had someone out to my home, free of charge. This technician was also ontime, courteous and helpful. I did check that I would call Roy's again in the future. I had a good experience with Mike and the installers but was very disappointed with both the manager and receptionist.

They are wonderful. They are very clean and they are just very nice people. They tell you everything; they don't leave out any details whatsoever. They give you all the choices. He gave me all the options and let me make up my mind what it was and how much I wanted to spend. They are very good at that. They've always been the same no matter who comes out for what problem. And you get different people all the time. The gentleman who put in the stationary tops in the basement was wonderful. They are just really good and they are very honest.
Description of Work: I have been using Roy's Plumbing Heating & Cooling. They took care of a toilet that was running constantly. They had to replace an inside part. I've used them several times for my air conditioner and my furnace. And we had new stationary tops put in in our basement.

See above. I chose Roy's on my own. It started out okay and as I said Tony was ver personable and friendly. Problem is I have spent $1682.27 and the drain was only a little improved in Spring and by the Fall this year is was making that area wet again. So unless I spend more money it will not be taken care of. He wanted me to sign up to have all our drains water jetted. This initially made sense to me. But at the least amount of another $1205 + tax , and maybe more, I don't think so. I was never planning on spending that amount of money. I mentioned about the use of a coupon not being suggested and getting the feeling that they just wanted to keep pushing for more service/money. Also, I myself wasn't out side to see the break in the pipe because it was drizzling, had had my hair done, didn't want it to get wet and was getting ready to go out. I would think they would have come to the door and said here was your problem. I just feel like I spent a lot of money and my problem isn't solved. In fact we are talking about hiring someone else to fix the problem.
Description of Work: Tony came 12/9/11 to see what had to be done. He was a very pleasant person. Estimated repair at $963 + tax. Also estimate that to water jet storm sewer lines would be a good idea at a cost of $675 + tax for the first 2 hours and $265 each additional hour. He estimated that the water jetting would be at least a 4 hour job. Since our wet area in our lawn had just started the previous late summer or fall I opted to have a spot repair on the drain and to decide about the water jetting in the spring. I was quoted $355 + tax to di his work. Imagine 3 drains in a row---- first to second about 15-20 feet and he said this one appeared to be open. He still cabled & flushed this drain anyway. He then went to the middle drain which is approximately 50 feet from the third drain. He was only able to cable 35 feet out. I suggested that he cable from the third drain back to the middle drain and maybe be able to figure out where the blockage was. He said he would have to charge me more but could give me 2 drain specials---$99 any drain. He cabled back and could only get back 15 feet and put a stick so when he came back to fix the problem he would know right where it was. I wrote a check for $ 602.42 for that day's service. He also gave me a card to send in rating his service. He also gave me a website to go on to rate his visit. On both of these I rated him as being at least very good. He also gave me coupons to use int the future for their services. Tony and another worker returned 1/23/12 to do the work. One of first things he asked was if I had returned the the card and gone online to rate my experience. He gave me an estimate of $992.95+ tax for the work he was going to do that day. He did not remind me of the coupons he had given me the previous visit. I know it is my responsibility to think of them but he was very good about checking on the evaluations of his previous work. On the invoice he wrote "No Warranty on Storm Sewer Drainage!" He underlined this. The bill was $1079.83 much more than I expecting and told him I would send in a check as soon as my husband put the money in the bank the next day. He said they can't do that and I said I would have to reschedule. He made a phone call to his boss, John, and it was approved. When they got there he said he wasn't sure where he said the problem was. I got my previous receipt and reminded him that he had written down how far back he was able to cable (15 feet) and that he had marked it. He and helper hand dug where the blockage was thought to be. After discussions with each other they cut out a section of pipe and replaced it. I was never shown the blockage or damage pipe. He also said he dye tested the inlet and found the outlet and cabled the same. He said the line is open but slow and will come back in Spring to water jet the line. I said I would call.

I have used Twin City Electrical for several projects with mixed results. On projects where the scope was very well defined and I obtained a fixed price, I was very pleased with the work and value. For a project that was a larger, more open-ended scope on a time and materials basis, I was not as pleased. In retrospect, I found their hourly rate to be above-market, and the worker productivity and quality of the work did not justify the higher price. The quality of work, work ethic and professionalism of the two workers on my jobs was mixed. (Short version: one was great, the other, not so much.) The owner, Mike Murphy is extremely courteous and knowledgeable, perhaps to a fault (He would make a great inspector.), but he was not onsite at the job as much as I would have liked. So in short, as long as you have a clearly defined scope of work and get multiple fixed-price bids, I would recommend Twin City Electrical. If you chose to do anything on a time and materials basis, and/or where the scope of work to be done is not well-defined, proceed with caution.
Description of Work: Have used Twin City Electrical for several projects the past year, from a simple, straight-forward circuit breaker panel upgrade/install, to overhauling the electrical system in a house that was being gut renovated.

What I didn't expect was the damage they did to my lawn. They gouged out about 10 areas of my lawn that were unrelated to the actual excavation site. I had a lanscaper come out and found that they did about $1000 worth of damage to my lawn that was unnecessary. The Plumbing Manager came out to my house to see the lawn after I called to request for them to do something to repair the damage. He said "this is a normal excavation" and they would not do anything to repair the lawn unless I wanted to pay them another $750 to come out and do so. I said no thank you!!! My regular plumber said he would have replaced the sewer line for $2,200 and I paid Roy's almost $4,000 - and need $1000 of landscaping to repair the lawn that they damaged. I'm never using Roy's again!!

Their price was reasonable and they were good. They came when they said they would. I had 3 other people that looked at it and no one else told us we had a cracked furnace part; he would not even clean it; instead we had him put in a new furnace. I called them on Friday night and they were able to schedule a service appointment for the next day, they scheduled a 12-2 window and then rescheduled from 2-3. I was desperate to get the problem fixed and I did not do my homework, the services from this company are more expensive than most other plumbers. It bothered me the plumber attempted to do exactly what I had been doing the day before and charged me almost $400 for diagnosing the problem and telling me I needed the high pressure cleaning for $600 but they could not do it that afternoon or the next day. I much rather been offered the option to do the high pressure flush and taken my chances with the $630 service I had not attempted myself for 5 hours the day before like I did with the heavy duty snake I rented from home depot. At least I would have liked to have the problem fixed that night. I had to find another company to come the next day and did the high pressure flush for $650 (it was Sunday). I understand the plumbers are following standard procedure, but it seems they take advantage of desperate people who need to use their showers and flush their toilets. I advice people to do their homework and ask about pricing and options before scheduling an appointment with area plumbers. It was also worthwhile to keep an eye on the lowest drain point in the house to spot trouble early before it is too late and you are at the mercy of this and other plumbers.
Description of Work: After attempting to clean and unplug my main sewer line with a heavy duty snake I rented from home depot for 5 hours, I called Roy's to clean the sewer line. I explained in detail what I had done. The plumber attempted to unplug with a vent plunger, which was included in the $79.95 minimum charge. Then he explained he was going to attempt to do what I had spent trying 5 hours the day before with very similar equipment, for $270 plus tax. He attempted this for 30 minutes and his attempts did not work either. He inserted a video cable telling me at least the drain line was not broken. He then informed me the next step was to do a high pressure wash for $630, but that it was too late in the day. After talking to his boss he informed me they could not come until Monday and not do it that same afternoon or the next morning.
