Professional Yes, Brian was. The estimate was rediculous for the work needed and i would like to mention, the estimate included many other things that were not even needed or asked for by me. IE painting, baseboard, etc.
Description of Work: Ok, I have never really written a review on almost anything, however, this one is worth it just for the laugh that me and my friends got after discussing the "estimate" that I received. I am not dumb in my knowledge of what needed to be done, I simply did not have the time to do this project. I will be detailed as possible to help paint a picture for anyone reading. I have a very small master bathroom in my house. Its floor is about 40sq ft ( 5" X 8" ). It had a vinyl floor, small tile stand up shower, soaking tub with tile surround, toilet and vanity. I removed the vanity, the toilet, the vinyl floor, the tile around the tub surround and the entire stand up shower to the studs. What I needed Northtowns to do for me was the following.Lay hardibacker on the floor and tile, Tile one accent wall, lay hardibacker around the tub surround and tile, lay hardibacker in the stand up shower and tile, then install a glass shower door. My original vanity had plumbing for hot/cold and drain coming up from the floor, I needed this moved to the wall to accommodate for my new vanity which had rear access for the plumbing. That about covered it. I was going to install the shower faucet, new vanity, toilet, and mirror on my own. I just needed a tiled room basically. Now know, I was supplying the Shower pan, and all the tile needed for the entire job out of my pocket. Northtowns basically needed to provide about 10-12 sheets of HardiBoard ( $160-$200 ), Thin set mortar ( $100 ), and other minors ( Tape, PVC, some baseboard, couple 2 X 4's and screws ( At best $400 ). Glass shower door I'm not familiar with but I will go as high as saying $1000. So that is about $1800 ( stretching it ) that they would be supplying. Now what needed to be done was tiling, I understand that is time consuming and a skill, hanging sheet rock, mudding taping, I understand. I would guess a 2 person job, 3-4 days.So what do I get, for a job with about $1800 in materials? A $9585.00 Estimate, But wait.. there's a coupon that brings it down to $8985.00 if I get it done in 30 days! $7000 for Labor??? Really??? As a previous reviewer stated, I'm sure they do wonderful work, but their estimates are so "out of the box" for the job, its not worth the consult. I do have to state one other issue that annoyed me as a potential customer, Brian, the owner did the visit, on time and was very friendly, however once I showed him the bathroom and he saw the shower pan there, and tile that I stated "I would provide" it immediately seemed like he couldn't leave fast enough. I honestly think this estimate was simply because they did not want to do a small job, with provided materials. It is obvious that they want you to buy everything in material from them, so they can obviously profit from that as well. Which is fine, as long as you don't mind working with a buyer who doesn't need to purchase materials from you as the contractor every now and then. The other thing that is annoying as well, the estimate was very detailed i must say, however it included Tons of things i didnt need, nor ask for. Such as Painting the ceiling, walls etc. Installing Toilet, vanity, mirror, sinks, ...all of which i specifically stated i was going to do. Installing baseboard ( dont need it, didnt want it ) and others. Considering I was providing the Shower Pan, All tile, the vanity, mirror, sinks, faucets and toilet and didnt need them to actually install any of the forementioned, I can only imagine what their estimate for my 5" X 7" bathroom would have been if I did not have those items and had to purchase from them. What....$18,000??? Unless you Uber rich, and simply have $ to burn, I wouldn't recommend. Sorry Brian.
