The new Serta iComfort mattress that I purchased gives off gases that were poisonous for me. When the mattress came into our home, I almost immediately had a reaction?lethargy, headaches, and nausea, so I couldn?t use it at all. It really physically made me sick. In order to get the gas out of the foam of the mattress, you are supposed to bounce on the bed to break up the cells to get the gas to release. The base under the mattress then had the gas in it, and it started giving off the fumes, as well, even after we purchased a new mattress from a different company. I had to go back to Metro Mattress to exchange the base, and since it was over 30 days, they weren?t willing to accept my base for exchange at all. I felt so frustrated, and this was a health issue for me, and there was no budging for the management on this matter. I had to threaten them with going to the FTC and EPA before they would work with me at all regarding the exchange of the $1700 dollar base for the $1200 base. This was six weeks worth of fighting with them. The salesman said that everything was returnable, but when I tried to return, they told me I should have read the back of my bill that said things were only exchangeable. It was only after I contacted Serta, that I received a new mattress that didn?t affect my health issues. I had to contact Serta, because when I went back to try to get a mattress from Metro Mattress, everything comparable to the mattress I?d already paid for was more expensive, and they refused the return of the iComfort.
