We have received many compliments on the house. The staff were professional and cleaned up after themselves. The job was very work-intensive, as the wood siding had to be sanded before painting, and some prep had to be done on old wood and siding. The owner was present most of the time and there was a person supervising all the work. the owner had helpful suggestions for a both the best colors and also a couple of problem areas (this is a very old home and has old additions which needed extra attention). We would definitely hire again, however, he does get busy at the end of the summer, so we had to call a couple of times to get the finishing work done (included very small imperfections - a nail hole or two, for example - that his staff corrected without a problem). Except for that small problem, we are very satisfied. He only needs to complete a small section of wood over the front screen door, where he installed a new screen door for us at the end of the summer. Feel free to drive by and take a look at the finished product.
Description of Work: Painted entire exterior, replaced some wood trim and soffit panels before painting, painted front door.

Gave excellent estimate, very honest about how we could save by eliminating unneeded items other painters tried to sell us. Showed up when scheduled, completed job quickly and well, responsive to request to return to fix door that we smudged! Excellent clean-up, respected shrubs and gardens. Very professional, good experience, would definitely recommend.

The workers were wonderful. Came in with a full staff to get the job done promptly. Was supposed to fill gaps and make minor repairs as they went. That was not always done. left several areas of paint on the screens and too much paint on areas of trim.

Twice in the past couple of years, I have requested estimates for service from Ryan Painting. Our porch needs painting badly, but it has lead paint and neither my partner nor I have experience painting over lead based paint, especially peeling paint which is the state our porch is in at this time, and Ryan is one of the few painting companies in the area that has experience painting over lead paint. Also we have a lot of small children in the neighborhood who often visit other neighbor's porches. So we wanted to be careful. We asked for an estimate a couple of years ago from Ryan Painting. They came for an estimate somewhat promptly, but their fee was too high. I got the impression that painting the porch was too small a job for his company. Last year, I also got an overview from a housing inspector of problem spots to watch out for in my house, and he noted that my porch was sagging, and that the porch probably needed to be jacked up, and that the bottom step needed to be replaced. The porch front and sides are covered by vinyl siding from a previous owner. I called Ryan once again this summer for another estimate since we had more work to do besides the painting, and when the person came by (same one that came the previous year), he was clearly not happy that he would have to take the siding down and remove the porch steps to survey under our porch. He even tried to tell my partner and I that there may not even be a problem, when our porch is clearly sagging! Anyway, it was clear to us, that he did not want to do the job. We won't call Ryan again for any painting job. The man was very unpleasant, clearly didn't not want to work with us, or didn't think our jobs were worth his time.

We contacted Charlie to quote our water damage mitigation/restoration project in our house. The house was built in 1906, so it was important for us to have a contractor who was experienced working with lathe and plaster. The contractor the insurance company recommended backed out, and two other contractors quoted the job too high, so when Charlie's quote was more in line with the adjustor's numbers without him knowing them, we decided to go with his company, plus he had a recommendation on Angie's list. When asked if he needed money up front, he said no. We explained to him that this was an insurance job, and the money would be coming from them; we really had no way to pay much out of our own funds and were dependent upon the insurance checks. However, he started asking for "a draw" to make his payroll the second day they started working. We were able to come up with $2,000 that Friday, but each week he asked again, so we had to borrow money from family since the insurance check cashing process was taking time between receiving the checks and getting them signed off by the mortgage company. Personally, we feel that professionals and good business owners should have enough money to pay their workers without depending on weekly "draws" from their customers. The work his crew did on removing the three layers of old wallpaper was good, and the repairing of the crumbling plaster in places was very good. We also had them install wiring and an outlet box for a chandelier, which they did, but then we lost power in three places. Eventually they ran new wiring to fix the problem. The paint job was very good overall, but their attention to detail in the finishing (such as taping for straight lines) was disappointing. Charlie did say to feel free to make a list of areas that needed touch up, even a few weeks after completion of the job. They did come back twice to fix a few mistakes, but one thing that really aggravated us was they installed a shallow box for the light switch, apparently forgetting that chandeliers usually have dimmer switches. My husband tried to fix the problem by soldering the wires, but that didn't work. It was suggested that we cut out the back of the box for more room, but we couldn't because they screwed it in place through the back of the box. We also tried to find a thinner dimmer switch, to no avail. We asked Charlie to remedy the problem, but his worker said there was no way to change or remove the box without tearing it out of the wall and having to repair and re-paint that area. This was at the end of the job, and Charlie was unwilling to take care of his mistake, which we thought was unprofessional. We ended up finding and ordering a box extender which we will fix ourselves, but we shouldn't have had to do this ourselves. In conclusion, we would probably use this company again for outside painting and/or repair of plaster, since their prices were fair, but we would probably hire someone else in the future for work that required attention to detail.
Description of Work: Water damage was mitigated, lathe and plaster repaired, or in some places replaced by drywall, wallpaper stripped, walls sanded and painted, trim painted.

When I called, he replied very quickly and came by that day. He gave me a reasonable estimate. He and a helper did a good job, were efficient, and cleaned up after themselves. I was very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: He repaired mutliple ceiling and wall cracks in the drywall. Then, he sanded and painted the interior walls about six rooms. He worked for three partial days, having to wait for everything to dry.

They were very prompt, thorough, and they did a good job. The only little problem was that I had to tell them to paint the back of the shutters but the manager was very responsive when I mentioned this.
