Stamp Crete patio He quoted me a price for a specific size patio and I was pleased with that but then after discussing it with the wife we decided that it was way too much way too big I wanted to cut the size by 118 ft.² not that much in comparison he said he would come back out when the three of us could get together and remeasure a week went by didn’t hear from them I contacted him he sounded as though he were still going to come out and remeasure five minutes later he called back and said that he had enough work and he didn’t need a job like mine that he had bad feelings about it and drop me like a bad habitThought that was very unprofessional I thought that was a poor way to do business and have since found another contractor that I’m very happy with

It was good! They're professional and friendly. They gave me a quote and they're quick to schedule the work and completed it.

May of 16 had concrete driveway installed, after the first winter holes appeared in the driveway. I contacted John and he said he drove buy and it looked fine to him...I sent him pictures but nothing was done. each year the driveway looks worse. I again contacted John and all he said is he does not guarantee his work and it must have been a bad batch............beware

We called for an estimate to rip up the concrete around our pool and pour new. He said he would come by and do the estimate. We called two times after that with no response. Therefore we didn't know he had stopped by or not. The 4th time we called, he said he would never get out there, that he was too busy. For that response, we waited a month! He could have told us that on day one and we could have moved on with this project.

It took a long time because the city gas line to my house was mixed into the tree root system. He worked with National Grid to get it done safely but had to wait for NG time.

Pioneer Masonry removed the step from porch and even out the steps height so they were both the same height (original steps were not the same height) and replaced a portion of the top step. This was all done within a day and they were very professional. I would definite recommend them and hire them again if I had a need for their services.

John came out to our home and gave us an estimate within a half hour of our initial phone call. I had checked around, and the price he bid seemed reasonable. His crew started work the very next morning, ripping out the old floor, disposing of it, and prepping the ground for the new floor. They also stabilized and repositioned a couple of places where the walls had started to bulge out. They poured the concrete on Day 2, and on Day 3, came back and cut the expansion joints. John kept us appraised of the work throughout Days 1 and 2. The crew was hardworking, respectful, and skilled. I would not use anyone else for future concrete work. The only downside was that our asphalt driveway did take a little bit of a hit from the weight of the concrete truck. Alas.

John came out quickly to do an estimate. It took a while to set up a time due to the time of year and unpredictable weather but once we were able to, the job was performed quickly and efficiently. They were responsive to a last minute modification in patio size and made sure the job was done to my satisfaction. The work looks even better than I had hoped and price was very fair.

J ohn Burgen and his crew continue to be the best! This is the second significant project that they have completed for us in the past year. Approximately 1 year ago they removed and replaced our concrete two car garage floor in a very professional manner . The floor has held up up well and survived the very cold and brutal winter experienced during 2014-2015 without any problems.. Today, they completed the removal and replacement of the old and cracking foundation exterior finish, making it look better than new . As with the first project, John and his crew were hard working, conscientious individuals who got the job done quickly and professionally. Especially significant is the fact that they completed the job in slightly more than two days in spite of the rainy weather Syracuse has been experiencing in June. When the work was completed, the yard looked as it had before the work was done and none of our flowers or shrubbery was damaged. Additionally, John honored the estimate given almost 1 year ago even though the job proved out to be greater than he might have expected. John and his crew, what a great company. They are the concrete specialist. John and his crew showed early morning and started removing the old floor, they had the old floor out and gone with in about a hour. These guys busted their butts, non stop getting the floor out. Then they prepared the ground for the pour, leveling the ground and adding the mesh (which the old one never had). Than came the concrete truck, they laid plastic down on the driveway to protect it from the pouring of the concrete. Than they went to work troweling the concrete. As they waited for the concrete to set up before they trowel it again they would wash the driveway down from any mess they made, by the time they where done the driveway was cleaner than when they arrived. What I thought looked good and they where done was wrong, they kept troweling to what they call the cream came up. This floor looks wonderful. His crew is knowledgeable, professional, courteous and more. They respected your property like it was theirs and some. I can't say enough about this company. I'm more than glad I chose them to do the work. Thank you to John and his crew great job

Initial meeting with John Burgen in August 2013 was informative and he provided photos of previous jobs. He portrayed himself as a professional and a perfectionist. We "needed" to have the foundation along our garage wall fixed and "needed" a new garage floor. After calculating the cost we opted to spend some additional money to have Pioneer remove and replace our 2 car drive with concrete at an additional cost of $4,000 bringing the total job to nearly $14,000. A proposal was outlined and price agreed upon and signed 8/19/13. Work began 9/3/13, the foundation wall was started first, part of the sidewalk in back of the house was prepped and the old garage floor was pulled up. A new opening was created for better access to the crawl space. The foundation was repaired using block along with the walls of the crawl space access area. At the time of our 1st meeting we told John that we wanted a vapor barrier placed under the concrete in the garage. As they began to lay mess on the garage floor I noticed that they had not placed any vapor barrier, I immediately brought it to John's attention and he said it was not listed on the contract. (IF YOU USE THIS GUY BE SURE TO GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING) I agreed to pay any additional cost for a vapor barrier, he supplied an old sheet of plastic at no cost. Along the way he made some suggestions and changes to our original plan which worked out well, some work he said he would perform he did not, small items. The day they poured the driveway it rained and they had to stop work until it stopped raining. However, pouring concrete in the rain causes spaulding, John knew this. Spaulding is a condition caused when concrete is poured in the rain and the concrete pops creating depressions or small pockets in the concrete up to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The work was finished about 9/20/13. At the time the work was completed everything looked great. NOW, after about 6 - 7 months two large areas of our driveway has excessive spaulding. We made 2 phone calls May 2014 to John, upon arrival to our home the first thing he said to me was "its concrete, not marble". I said if it were his driveway he wouldn't leave it that way, then he offered to let me come to his home and see his driveway. He said the spaulding wouldn't get any worse and offered to take a photo of the area, I said great, he said he would take the photo from the street. After being arrogant, sarcastic, rude and condescending, he said there were no guarantees and he got in his truck and said he would fix it, FOR $3,000. I suggest you find another contractor, don't use this guy!! UPDATE 8/19/14 - After posting this review we heard from the contractor, John within a few days and following some additional discussions came to a mutual arrangement that was agreeable to both parties. The driveway was not repaired but some additional masonry work was provided and completed at no charge. Honestly, John is an excellent saleman and if we would not have had an issue with the driveway splauding our scores for his work would have been much higher. Also if our initial contact over our compliant would have been handled better we wouldn't have had to write such a review. Regardless of whether the work is guaranteed good customer service after the sale often leads to repeat business and referrals. When John completed the latest work we shook hands. J ohn Burgen and his crew are the best! We needed someone reputable and competent to remove an existing two car garage concrete floor that had originally been installed in 1962 and replace it with new. After reading reviews on Angie?s List about John and Pioneer Masonry, we called and asked him to provide us with an estimate. John arrived at the appointed time, evaluated the situation and provided a detailed estimate on the spot of what needed to be done, costs, as well as several options and alternative ways to do the job. There was no pressure to choose the most expensive option. He fully explained the pros & cons of each option so that when we made our decision, it was based on what we needed, our budget and the long term benefit of the project. After speaking with several other contractors, we knew Pioneer Masonry was the one to do our project. So, at 8:30 AM the following Monday morning, John and his crew arrived. By the end of the day, they had removed the old concrete, and steel mesh, removing it from the property, plus prepared the floor for pouring the concrete the following day. This was a significant challenge and John?s crew worked almost non-stop for the whole day to accomplish it. My wife said she's never seen anyone work as hard as they did. They also removed some stairs to the adjoining sun porch and a heavy work bench that we were unable to move from the garage. Bright and early, Tuesday morning, the cement mixer and the crew arrived, installed 6 gauge steel mesh and poured 6? of concrete. The rest of the day was spent smoothing, leveling , sealing and applying a power-trowl finish. By 4:00 PM, the job was finished. They later returned to place the stairs and the work bench in their original locations. When we first contemplated doing this project, we had many reservations about how it could be done at a price we could afford and still be of lasting quality. We now feel that we made the best choice possible. J ohn Burgen and the Pioneer Masonry crew are true professionals. We would certainly ask them to do future work for us and have already recommended them to friends who may be needing similar work done.

John from Pioneer called today to ask if he could start the job on Tuesday May 27th. He said there has to be some changes to the contract. He would not be able to do the concrete work unless he could back all the way on to my yard with the concrete truck and his dump truck to the work site. When he gave me the contract earlier in the year, he said he could wheel borrow what he needed from the driveway as I had concerns about the weight of the concrete truck. It's about 50- 55 feet to the job site. When I talked to him today he said he could not do that and would have to drive on to my lawn. Now I'm not a big lawn guy and if a little damage was done I would not hold him responsible. But when he starts saying that he don't give a ---- about my lawn ( fill in the blank) ,I feel that he's not a person I want to do business with. I cancelled the contract with his company. To bad because I really wanted this done.

Pioneer cut trench around perimeter of basement, layered with small gravel, installed perforated plastic piping to collect water and run it into sump pump, poured concrete to cover trench. (Cleared all items stored in basement from walls. REPLACED ALL ITEMS ONCE WORK COMPLETED AND CONCRETE DRY!). EVEN MOPPED THE FLOOR! John and his crew were great. Did all they contracted for and in the most professional manner possible. I am delighted and wold use Pioneer's services again if the need arose. .

I was very pleased with the work. John Burgen, the owner, spent time discussing optional designs and made helpful suggestions (e.g., modifying the dimensions of the porch floor and providing proper slope for drainage). He and his capable crew were punctual and worked professionally through all stages of site prep, concrete pouring, and finishing. John was available if I had questions during the work and made sure everything was to my satisfaction when the job was done. His crew definitely knew what they were doing and I am very pleased with the results. I have plans to do more work in the future that will require masonry services and I will definitely call Pioneer again.

Prompt to provide estimate. Work started within 10 days from estimate and finished in 2 days. Surprised when the front porch was not just concrete on the facade, but the entire porch was cement. Required more time and more materials than initially estimated. To my surprise, no additional charge. Great service, professional team, John's told me he was the best, I would agree!

This company was fantastic. The owner, John Burgen, was very helpful from the initial quote and gave us a very reasonable price. His crew was fantastic and meticulous between the removal of the old floor and completion of the new floor. They were very careful to not disturb our driveway, laid plastic barriers and constantly washed their boots and tools in an effort to minimize damage to the lawn or driveway. The floor looks great and the entire crew was respectful through the duration of the job. It was also obvious that the crew was used to working hard as they barely took breaks.

Really well. John Burgen did exactly what he said he was going to do. He came when he said he was coming and finished on time. My husband and I are happy with the outcome of the project.
