The job was quoted as a three-day job but was not finished until nine days later, requiring us to reschedule our appointment for countertop templating. The drywall installers hired by the drywall company owner were not skilled. They didn't use a laser level for the ceiling and had much difficulty getting it level. They also did not install the new drywall plumb and seemed not to realize that studs of plastered walls are notorious for not providing a level surface across the wall, so their end result left us will new walls as wavy as the old plaster walls. The installers did not cut drywall accurately around new 2x4 window frames and outlet boxes, causing problems for our window jamb and trim installation, outlet cover installations and scribing of the cabinets later in the project. The owner is the plasterer and had to spend a good deal of time fixing the work of the installers. The owner did the plaster skim coat on two walls and it was good. The owner did a good job taping the drywall installation errors also. We ended up with an adequate job; but it took too long, forced us to change our renovation schedule and take another week off work, and cost us extra time later in making adjustments for the poor install of drywall. If we have a future plastering job, we would hire the owner again. We would never let the drywall installers do another job in the house.
Description of Work: The work was part of our do-it-yourself kitchen remodel of an 80 year old house. Due to time and equipment restraints we decided to have the walls done by a contractor. The contracted work was to install drywall over the existing ceiling, install drywall over bare studs of 2 old walls (plaster removed and new insulation installed prior to contracted work). The new drywall needed to be cut around new windows and new outlet boxes (nothing out of the ordinary). The drywall company owner suggested skim coat of the two original plaster walls and shimming of the ceiling before installing drywall on the ceiling. We agreed to both. The kitchen was empty except for a stove and refrigerator,--no plaster on walls to be drywalled, no cabinets, sink, window trim or baseboards, and the flooring was going to be replaced so it didn't need protection--site was ready to go..
