The quote was VERY expensive but we were in a crunch and went forward with our project (deciding on half the roof for the time being). A whole crew came over and it was done in one day! They were very accommodating with our particular financial situation. Wonderful people!

If you want to pay professional prices for a DIY job, hire Murtaugh. We had a large in-law renovation done for my disabled grandmother, it was a $15,000 job. There was not one aspect of the job that was not done either unprofessionally, had to be redone, or to this day is still not right. We had two different plumbing leaks they had to return and fix, a toilet drain and toilet water line (see photos). The business owner, his son, and his wife all came into my home and said that flooring would not be acceptable in their own home, but to date they are unwilling to fix the issues and have only offered verbally a $2000 credit for the flooring (which is not indicated on the final invoice). There is no way I can obtain acceptable flooring for $2000. The last time we spoke on the phone about the issue of the flooring, I was told he would be sending this all to his attorney and he HUNG UP on me. The owner himself told me that the flooring selected was not the right flooring for my house, but he will not take responsibility for it. The flooring we chose was one of the four flooring options I was given by his representative. (My flooring and tile choices were made via cell phone picture by the way.) There are wide seems all over that are raised and not only visible but catch on your feet. A piece of trim needed to be stained and was not taped to protect my cabinets, sloppily leaving stain on my kitchen cupboards. A light was installed off center and had to be reinstalled. The L shaped shower curtain bar was not level and not strong enough to hold the curtain, and a support rod had to be added. The toilet they moved was not installed to code and had to be moved and reinstalled. The tile work was not done professionally and corner pieces were uneven and sloppy. The first time the flooring was installed there was a place that was so tight the piece popped up out of place, and had to be fixed. The ends of the laminate flooring were cut too short in many places leaving large gaps at the walls, and had to be cut again and reinstalled. I bought the light fixtures myself having been told I would be reimbursed and it was never reflected on the invoice. I have expressed that we should receive a credit for the flooring, but despite saying he will settle with me he did not respond and sent another invoice with zero credit for the flooring applied. In addition to there being no credit he has added over $500 for a handicap toilet that I never signed a change order for. I have paid nearly $10,000 already and they are now threatening me with a Mechanic's Lien for the balance. Stay away!
Description of Work: We needed a wall opened up, a toilet moved, a shower made handicap accessible, and all the flooring replaced in an in-law apartment.

Outstanding. They were not the cheapest quote but they delivered beyond the contract. In places where they committed to two coats of paint, the redid the wall and gave an extra coat so that it would meet their standard of quality. They knew several tricks and techniques. In one area I needed a ceiling touched up but we knew if the paint could not be matched, it was going to cost an extra $1000 to paint the whole ceiling. They managed to match the paint perfectly saving me money, with no loss of quality. Where we had one problem (due to my specification of incorrect paint color) they worked with me to make things work out and did not charge me extra. They were disciplined in cleaning up each day after their work. Their price is fair and good value.
Description of Work: Remove wallpaper, repair drywall, paint walls, misc light construction

I had no problem at all with Murtaugh.... It took time to start and finish the job only because of all the rain we had.... The workers were polite to us, and to each other... Each day before they left, they made sure everything was picked up.... Had to call them back for problems I found, September, 2013..... 2 months now, November 12, owner never stopped at house or called, even though we talked to him personally..... Had ordered a basement window....was quoted $250, maybe it wasn't worth their time, even though owner said he ordered it, I think it was just bull.... They don't reply to our phone calls or messages now.... ...... ok.....

He wanted to do work that I thought wasn't necessary on the property at that time. but I do know he does great work. and I couldn't afford what he wanted to perform on my home, though it probably did need all the work he said it needed. I had it done without all the stuff he said I needed done. I would recommend him again if I need more work done. His estimate was good, fair and affordable prices. He was willing to work with me on a payment plan, but like I said I really didn't want all that work done and went somewhere else.
Description of Work: no service was performed just did an estimate.

Our deck was damaged from the rough winter we just had. An area collapsed, and we needed it fixed in time to have a graduation party for our daughter. Murtaugh provided the best quote, and they were able to do the work within a short time frame. In regards to other quotes, we had another one for $2000 and $2900, and both couldn't get it done until after the graduation. It has been a couple of months now, and we are very happy with the quality of work performed. They were able to use most of the existing wood. Our expectation was that they would replace much of what was bowed, but it turns out that it didn't matter. They probably made out better since they quoted a price that they would stick to, and in the end needed much less materials. Bottom line though - our deck is back to the way it was, with even more support for future winters.
Description of Work: Repair 20 year old deck that was damaged from a severe winter. It's also noteworthy that all the contractors that we got bids from said that the deck did not have the correct support for the size. All boards from the effected area needed to be removed, and proper support performed before putting deck back together.

Murtaugh and his crew (one subcontracting crew, some direct employees) were great. They came on time, they stayed till cleanup was done every day. Mr. Murtaugh was always available either by phone or when he stopped by to oversee progress, which he did at least twice a day. The crew were nice, professional, and extremely competent. Mr. Murtaugh, his subcontractors, and his crew were also extremely generous with their time and expertise, and were willing to explain through every step of every part of the job - why they were doing it "this way" instead of "that way". They offered options and were very much up front about various costs, expectations, performance and potential issues. Great Job!!!
Description of Work: Complete tear off, sheathing installation, and re-roof with 35 year architectural shingles on main roof, entryway porch roof, bay window, and birdwalks on a steep, tall, old house with 3-4 layers of shingles.
