 + 0 moreWe did a lot of research before deciding to proceed with this project. We visited several shops in Onondaga county to determine who we would decide to buy an insert from. After they came to our house and surveyed what was required we received quotes that varied as much as 75% higher than Countryside's quote. One shop in particular acted as though they were doing us a favor by letting us talk to them. We've owned 5 houses throughout the past 40 years and did, in some cases extensive, remodeling to them. Having dealt with several contractors we can say that the professional staff at Countryside exceeded our expectations and then some. We highly recommend Countryside Stove & Chimney. You owe it to yourselves to visit them before you make your final decision.
Description of Work: Countryside installed a direct vent gas inset into my zero clearance prefab fireplace. New vents were installed into an existing chimney and a 40 foot gas line was run to the unit. Once complete we were given a thorough explanation of the operation and the safety features of the insert. All work was completed by a professional technician, on schedule and the job site left cleaner than it was when he started.

Description of Work: Visited store after getting inspection and quote from competitor for same product and installation of wood insert. He insisted there was no need for a professional install. He would show me how to terminate the chimney. I expressed concern about doing it my self and asked if i decided not to do it myself what the cost would be. He said 500 for my location. After calling back after talking to local sweep, and ensuring he was using the UL listed liner for a prefab chimney he refused to do the install and as it turns out, he had no clue that he needed to use a specific liner for my prefab chimney. When pushed further he indicated that despite my fireplace meeting the MFG specs, there was no way to install it due to size constraints. I talked to mfg, they indicated that he was wrong, he just had no clue what he was talking about. They referred me to the distributor, who also confirmed the same. Empire Disributing. I asked him to either do the install with the UL rated liner or return my entire deposit. He refused to do the install and charged me the restocking fee. Distributor didnt talk to him to try and resolve, instead they contacted his competitor stove shop they also distribute to in an attempt to bail him out. I ended up eating the restocking fee and going with the more reputable shop. I will submit review on Plank Rd post install.

 + -1 moreThe owner was rude. He stated that he couldn't use the gas line outside the house, less than 20' away from the fireplace, nor could he use the gas line in the basement, about 15' away. He stated that he could not and quot;break intoand quot; a main gas line because the gas utility could charge him for damaging the meter? When I asked why, he just repeated that he couldn't do it. When I pointed out a gas connection to the hot water tank off the main gas line, he just repeated that he couldn't break into the line, and literally stormed out of the house as if someone was chasing him. Then he ran back in the house to retrieve books that he left near the fireplace. This was very strange indeed. What a waste of time! The photos of the gas line in the basement and the meter's proximity to the fireplace are provided. I wouldn't call him back again. Last year I asked him for a quote on a new fireplace and he tried to charge me sales tax on the labor, which is not necessary for a home capital improvement in NY State. Other quotes didn't charge tax and suggested that he was doing something improper.

 + 0 moreEverything went well......they arrived on time and installed the gas insert in one day......you wouldn't even know they were there.....cleaned up after themselves and did a fantastic job..... They also spent about 20 minutes going over how to work the fireplace.......the remote, how to maintain the unit and showed me the new gas line and electric line they installed..... It was a great experience and I would recommend them to anyone....
Description of Work: They removed my woodburning fireplace and installed a gas insert.
