From start to finish I was so impressed with the professionalism of the gentlemen who came to my home. Ron provided me with a written proposal in detail along with a list of what was expected from its service personnel to complete this job. It was like a check list of what I could expect from them and it was great. What was even greater was that they followed through on each and every item on the lists. They were on time, wore proper uniforms, went about there work installing the furnance, took out the old one, and cleaned up after themselves. I was given a lesson on how to program my new thermostat, how to turn off the furnace and what filters I needed and how often. The inpector came in to review the work and it passed on all levels. Ron Stevens came in to check out the job and to ensure everything was covered. This is what as known as REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Thank you for a job well done.
Description of Work: I contacted Cooney Air and Heating on 10/18/2011 as my furnace was making a loud noise. Cooney immediately sent out a service man to inspect the problem. I had 2 cracks in the block. The service man immediately turned off the power and gas to the furnace due to threat of carbon monoxide fumes. He advised me that I needed to replace the furnace at which time he contacted the office to have a systems specialist contact me. The gentleman (Ron Stevens) came over the next day and we discussed in detail what I required based on my affordability. Ron went over different options on furnaces, payment plans, and rebate programs that applied. He was very thorough and because of this my NEW furnace was installed 2 days later.

I wanted to do the work in installments so they started working on it last spring and finished recently. They were really good about coming back out to fix it. Right now it seems to be working fine and I am well satisfied. They went out of their way to explain things to me and I think their pricing is fair. They came when they said they would and I will use them again in the future.

They are every good. We have used them before and they are very reliable. We contacted them again because some other people here had good recommendations for them. They were always prompt and they were always courteous. They were always fair in price. I know my daughter's hot water heater went during the middle of the winter and they were there the next day to replace it immediately. I would recommend them.

i called cooney's heating and air conditioning for a quote to install central air. their representative was on time looked at all the house took some notes and completely explained to me what needed to be done and what they would do that to make their installation the best. i received his quote with in days and when i accepted the bid the installation was set up for less than a week later. since this was during a heat wave i was pleasantly surprised how quickly they were able to give me an appointment. i was told by another estimator that because the area where the furnace was placed was so tight that they would not be able to do the job. before i accepted their offer i made them aware of this and they assured me it would not be a problem for them. (they were right ) the installation went smooth as they were on time, professional and polite at all times. they were neat and left no mess for us to clean up. they were unable to complete the installation that day so they asked if i would allow them to come back the next morning for about 2 hours which i agreed to. the next day a single installer returned and was done in less than 2 hours. we were very happy with the process and everything seems to be working fine. it has been very hot a number of days and it has been very pleasant in our house.

The estimate for Cooney was about $1500 higher than the next guys I had looked at. However, I knew I wanted to have them do my HVAC work when they actually walked through my house and measured each of the spaces to determine exactly what type of system would be best for me. My home sits on 3 levels and can have a significant change in heating and cooling based on what level of the house you are on. For them to take the time to take that into consideration rather than just walk down into the basement was a HUGE plus in my book. After the job began, the gentleman whom I was working with actually stopped out to my home to check in on the 2 men doing the work. He walked me through everything they would be doing and showed me exactly where everything was going to go. On the second day of the job, the air conditioning compressor was installed and the system was tested. after some tweaks to the system and a few modifications to some ducts in the basement (some air flow leaks were found and taken care of immediately), they walked me through the new system and how it functions. the system is functioning perfectly since it was installed and I have been extremely happy with it.
Description of Work: Removal of 30 year old furnace Installation of Carrier high efficiency furnace Installation of 17 SEER Carrier central air conditioning system Installation of concrete pad for air conditioning condenser Minimal duct work for new system (The home was already configured for forced air) New Thermostat installed PVC intake and exhaust installed for new furnace De-Humidifier for furnace installed and drained into basement sink Circuit breaker installed for furnace/air conditioning unit

The furnace had been a problem off and on during the previous heating season, but was even less reliable in November 2010. Having a bad experience with another company earlier in the year, we chose Cooney from Angie's List. A technician came out at a time and day that was convenient for us. He examined the furnace, burners, etc., and didn't say anything about the furnace being too old to fix. He tested the thermostat and determined a problem. He installed another thermostat we had on hand. He returned to the furnace and after testing determined that the controller unit was bad also. The entire process took two hours. The furnace has been working fine, which was a relief since the cold, record-breaking December snowfall was just about to start.
Description of Work: Our fourteen year old furnace was not reliably going on. Once on, it ran fine. We wanted an assessment of the problem and the appropriate repair.

Fast response time to my service call and diagnosed problems with my furnace, decided that it was time to replace the 22 year old unit and not to spend any more money on repairs, after spending $900 over the last 2 years with another company, it was time to send this furnace to the scrap yard. They returned the next day and replaced the furnace. Laid carpet runners down to protect my flooring and was done in one day. Now I can rest easy on these long winter nights with a new furnace and not up baby-sitting the old clunker.

The person from Cooney never called back to reschedule the appointment he canceled so I have to say my experience was not very good. I may have slipped through a crack but I didn't feel it was up to me to call them back. It just didn't give me a lot of confidence in spending $6000-$8000 with them so I am working with another company. Follow Up: I originally reported that Ron from Cooney a/c and heating canceled the original appointment for 12/8/2010 and that as of 1/8/2011 had not contacted me to reschedule as he stated he would. On January 18, 2011 Ron did call me and apologized for not rescheduling originally and asked for an opportunity to try and make things right. So we set up another appointment for Ron to come to my house to look at my existing equipment and to provide a written estimate to replace it. Ron showed up promptly as scheduled and took considerable time to discuss what I was looking for along with his suggestions. Ron is very professional and knowledgeable and returned a few days later to personally present and review his proposal and estimates with me. Although I'm very confident that Cooney would do a fine job installing and setting up the new equipment, I found their price to be higher than some other companies I spoke with for identical equipment and elected to contract with someone else.
Description of Work: Called during the first week in December to schedule an appointment to obtain a quote to have my oil fired boiler and hot water heater replaced. Ron scheduled the appointment for Wednesday, December 8th at 9:30am. On December 8th at about 9:00am Ron had someone from his office call and say he couldn't make the appointment but would call us to reschedule. As of today January 8, 2011, NEVER HEARD FROM HIM. Follow Up: Only received a quote to replace boiler and domestic hot water heater.

It was only an estimate, but I was pleased with their professionalism. The price they quoted me was about $3500. The guy that came and did the estimate was punctual and he came on time and took measurements. He was very professional in explaining what could and could not be done. His appearance to me was very neat, which to me was very important and I think this was his primary responsibility in the company. I would definitely consider it and it was just that I did not have money at the time. A friend highly recommended them to me and I would have no hesitations using them. He was here when he said he would be.

The professionalism and quality of the instllation was wonderful. They ensured the new A/C system would be sized correctly for the house (e.g. measured sq/foot, how many windows, doors, etc) and performed a "Manual J" calculation. Many people came to the house the day of the installation the system, which made it run smoothly and quickly. Also, not only did they inspect the old A/C system, but noticed other minor problems with the current heating system. They fixed the exhaust piping and corrected minor flaws in the poor installation of the ductwork. This was all included in the price of the replacement A/C. They really went above and beyond the service we were expecting.

I am in the process of selling my home. A family that made an offer on the home had their inspector come to check out the home. The home was in great shape, except the inspector noticed some corrosion on the venting pipes that lead up through a concrete hole that went up the house. Now there has been watery rust streaks there, which I noticed, but never the corrosion. I HAD a service contract with another company who came in twice a year and have been giving me a maintenance check and never reported an issue.. Anyway, upon calling that same company who has been servicing me for years, gave me a quote of $2500-$3000 and said the pipe might be outdated (it was oval not round like todays standard) and even suggested running new pipe out the side of the house! It was so bad that the original company was forced to shut off my heat as a safety precatuion.. I was freaked out at knowing I can potentially spend another 3k after already reducing the selling price of my home.. Well I went rght to my angies list, and based on the solid grades and close proximity, I caled Cooney. I spoke with a gentleman named Dave there at 7:30.. I asked if he can come out sometime that day.. He offered to come at 10... After calling him again, he was able to come even earlier.. He noticed the rotting and took a little piece of my drywall off the garage.. He saw the pipe was just as rotted (virtually disintegrated ) as below.. He thought he found a spot where the corrosion ended and thought he could add the new pipe from there, as long as it was safe and up to code.. He would have his Technician, Lenny there the next day at 8:30 to confirm.. He gave me a quote for materials plus 6 hours of labor. Lenny arrived at 8:15 the next day.. He took a look at the existing hole in garage, saw the damage and proceeded to cut higher.. Fingers were crossed that that is where the damage had ended.. Unfortunately for me, the damage was too great even higher up the wall.. The whole pipe had to be replaced... As i feared a doubling or tripling of the quote, he now had to start cutting into the 2nd floor walls or even work through the attic.. Well, the technician, Lenny, had to go get extra hard to find parts to complete the now doubled job... Lenny was incredibly neat, and not only did he not make a mess on all three levels, but make nice neat holes in the sheretrock which will be very easy to patch up... I wish I can upload before and after photos of the amazing job that was done.. I had to step out with my wife for an appointment whle my father n law waited for Lenny to complete his job..I left my credit card and just asked him to bill whatever. When I returned home, he did not bill the credit card but left a note that Dave would contact me the next morning with the total. Well this morning, Dave called, and the bill was only $100 or so difference from the quote, but did almost 2x the work (A whole 10 feet more of stripping the corroded piping and replacing the new piping through the 2nd floor, plus cutting through the drywall.... Now, I dont know if anyone reading this can appreciate when you lose sleep thinking you are about to get a bill for $1500 to $2000 and get a bill for 1/2 to 2/3rds less, but considering all the other stress regarding buying and selling homes, I am so relieved for angies list and for Cooney!!!!! I have already promised him the work on my new house regarding adding the central air unit, and am so relieved that I now have a trusted goto service as long as I am a resident of the Syracuse area! Thank you Lenny and Dave for an absolute amazing experience all around!

I've been using Cooney to maintain our high-efficiency Rheem furnace, vintage 1995, for about one year. I have been impressed with their skill and attitude about repairing it. The recent repair was the small bypass blower motor. It failed on a weekend, when the local parts distributors were closed. The repairman actually had a used motor stashed in his truck that served for a few days until a new one could be obtained; stashing away parts like that is, to me, an indicator of a real professional. They were also skillful in diagnosing and repairing a problem about a year ago.

We had checked out several contractors and this one came most highly recommended even though it was mentioned they were more expensive than others. Ron Stevens was very clear and communicative as well as responsive to any questions we had. The paperwork for the rebates went seamlessly and they literally took care of everything so well, the house, the property, the paperwork, all of it! It was excellent service and we have already received our National Grid rebate back.

I was very pleased with their professionalism while giving the estimate. They representative was very upfront about everything. We are going to wait until the kids are out of college before starting that project. I actually called them on 2 separate occasions. I was generally connected right away and when I wasn’t they returned my call the same day. I had one appointment for the estimate and he was right there on time. The guy really explained everything to me. I was very pleased with it. He explained that they can only install the newer system, and didn’t try to sell me the old stuff.

Called on Friday to make appointment, my a/c compressor wasn't coming on. I chose to wait until Monday because I didnt want to pay weekend overtime rate. On Monday the tech arrived about ten minutes past the 8:00-8:30 arrival window I was quoted. He didn't call before arrival as I had requested. It took him about 5 minutes to find the problem. I had a bad capacitor in the compressor unit. He looked in truck and said he didn't have the part, so he had to go get it. When I had called to make appointment I told her what the problem was, that the compressor was not coming on. I also told her what brand the a/c was. The tech said he'd be back in about 20 minutes. He got back 40 minutes later. It took him about 10 minutes to get the new part in and button it back up. He spent a few more minutes wrapping the cooling hose/pipe to inside with new insulation and wire tieing the electric wires so they weren't dangling, nice touch. He also cleaned the unit with my hose, making sure it had good airflow. We spent a few minutes talking about a boat I have in the backyard which he was interested in, but he didn't charge me for that time lol.

Because we had Cooney install two Renaiis in our last home we knew that we could count on them. That's why I called Ron Stevens from Cooney Air Conditioning and Heating in a panic when a strong gas smell filled the house and we had to shut the gas off at the meter of the house we just bought. We have worked with Ron at Cooney for years and just as he has done in the past, he stopped by our house that same afternoon. We voiced our concern about the furnace exhaust pipe, our desire to have a heat duct installed upstairs and our need for new gas lines. Ron took the time to look at everything and explain to us in detail what we needed to have done, what materials they would need to get the work done and how long the guys would need to be here. Because of the gas line issue, Ron scheduled us in for the next afternoon. The guys came on time the next morning and went right to work. They took the time to show us the pipe they removed and explained to us that our problem stemmed from someone using galvanized pipe to run the gas lines instead of black pipe. They worked efficiently and quickly and yet they took the time out of their work to explain what they were doing next and to answer questions from us. In the course of removing and replacing the furnace exhaust pipe one of the guys found a venting problem with the hotwater tank and told us that it was a serious carbon monoxide problem waiting to happen. They fixed that free of charge for us. The work was done on time and Ron Steven's kept in touch with the guys off and on the whole day. He stopped by once to say "Hello" and called us one other time to see if we had any concerns or questions. When they left that day we knew that we had work done right and that we could sleep in safety.
