It was fantastic. They came when they said they would. They completed the work within a week. When they job turned out to be a bigger job than what we had originally thought, they did not bump up the price. They did about two extra days of work. Really kind people. They cleaned up after themselves every day they were here. This was the second time we had them do a job for us.

Overall, the work was excellent and the team was great. First comment is that Peter was thorough in his assessment, the cause of the seepage, and options. He actually said that it was a heavy rain season and the water seepage could go away and not return for years, so dealing with the seepage without any sump was an option. Peter also laid out where the best location for the sump would be, and how he expected it to perform. Digging a 3 foot sump in the basement was not an easy decision, but we proceeded. While his team cut through the basement floor, water was immediately encountered. Intermittent pumping of the water was done to facilitate their excavation for the sump basin which is about the size of a garbage pail. The excavation and installation included a substantial border of gravel. Once activated, the pump began eliminating the water in the sump until the source of the water slowed to a trickle. Basement is completely dry. The sump is working perfectly. Monitoring the sump with a water level gauge is showing increased activity when it rains, and reduced when it is dry, reaffirming the decision to proceed with the installation.

Communication between their office prior to the date of work was good. Arrived on time , clean and professional crew, completed all work satisfactorily. Ensured safety precautions in place.

As an architect I had 3 contractors provide proposals. I chose Van Alphen Bros. because i felt they had the most experience and knowledge after brain-storming them with questions in addressing their response my site condition after they visited the site. While their price was comparatively not the cheapest, it was still competitive, and I thought fair considering all the work they had to do. Peter Van Alphen and his operation was very well organized throughout the work. The trenching, gravel delivery, drain pipe installation, back-filling, and a bit of concrete pavement work went like clockwork, very well coordinated. There must've been around 5+ workmen and because they were efficient, the work went very fast. While Peter was not actually physically present during most of the work--he trusts his crew-- Peter was still in control via cell phone. His workmen installed the french drain with the drain pipe perforations facing up but I preferred the drain perforations to face down. After informing Peter of my preference he had his workmen re-orientate the drain pipe so the perforations faced down. That proved to me that Peter really tries to accommodate the customer and as a result, I am a very satisfied customer. All in all, I was impressed with the experience, staffing, coordination, efficiency, speed and quality that Van Alphen Bros. provided. I didn't want to provide a review until after experiencing a a couple of seasons with some good rain storms. Thanks to Van Alphen Bros., whenever i walk along the side of my house after a rain storm, I no longer have to tread through 2 inches of water that used to pond there and water is no longer dripping into the cellar through the cellar windows.

My husband and I were both very happy with him. His wife, she is the one who takes the phone calls. I think his wifes name is Sandra. She does all the phone calls for him and the paperwork and setting up the types of contracts. They are a great team. They were a pleasure to deal with. They are very professional. When they say they are going to come, they come.

The steps look good but they are chipping now (before we had all this snow) and the columns did not line up when the job was completed. They fixed the columns because I came up with the idea on how to fix them. Also, the owner is never on the job to follow up on the workers. The first job I was not there while they were working so I couldn't see the workers and what they were doing. The second job I was home and couldn't believe that the owner didn't show up once, not even to look at the finished product. Meanwhile the workers left concrete all over my deck in the backyard for the first job after we just painted the deck and parts of my fence were bent. They must have hung buckets on the fence when they were working. They did a good job on the concrete but the workers have no regard for the property around them.

The concrete has come apart. We just got a snow storm, so now I am waiting for the snow to melt before I call them. When I went to Angie's List, they had good reviews. They did the job. I would use them again.

It was a very good experience. They were very professional and we love the outcome of their work.

We were very satisfied with Peter VanAlphen. He gave us an estimate and we scheduled the work to be done. He also repaired stucco in the front of our house that had broken loose and did a wonderful job. When I was unhappy with a small issue Peter immediately came to our home and offered to fix it at no additional charge and proved to us that he stands behind his word that he wants his customers to be happy with the work he does. In addition to replacing our walkway , he also curved it to be more interesting. Overall we were very pleased and would definitely use VanAlphen Brothers again when we have additional work to be done.

We spent less than $3000 for their services. It went very well and they were very efficient. They came when they said they would come. They completed the job quickly. The communication was clear. They were responsive when we called for a quote. Their pricing was very competitive. They kept the lines of communication open. It was a great experience. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

They responded quickly and explained everything to our satisfaction. The estimate given was fair.

Challenge was to find a someone willing to take on such a small job. Fortunately, contractor had a job nearby and was able to accommodate. They showed up on the agreed date/time, and finished job in a few hours. There was a problem with the drain, but they came back and corrected the problem. Overall, happy with the service, just a bit on the expensive side.

We were very pleased with the entire job and are planning to use them again next Spring. They are very professional.

We had a very ratty patio that needed replacing. We also had a very limited entryway so getting equiptment in and out was not very easy. Van Alphen provided excellent customer service for us, helped us though the descision making on whihc pavers to choose and had great local knowledge of the tye of ground they were working on so we knew we were in good hands. Job was done on time, in the timeframe they specified. Work is gorgeous, neat and totally professional.

He wanted to charge me twice what another company did, so I went with another company.

Everything was just great. It looks gorgeous. I couldn't be happier with them. They were terrific people to deal with. It came out looking better than I could have expected. They went out of their way to get the brick on the steps looking the way I wanted.

THEY WERE GOOD. THEY WERE FRIENDLY and CLEAN. THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES. THE PRICE WAS MODERATE. IT WAS JUST AN ALL AROUND GOOD EXPERIENCE. SOME OF OUR BRICKS WERE STARTING TO CRACK and THE MORTAR WAS CRUMBLING SO THEY STOPPED THE EXCESSIVE MOISTURE THAT WAS CAUSING IT.

THIS WAS THE FIRST EXPERIENCE WE HAD WITH THEM, AND WE WENT THROUGH SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL BIDS. WE LIKED THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL. THEY WERE ALWAYS PUNCTUAL. IF THEY SAID THEY WOULD HERE AT 7AM THEY WOULD BE THERE. ALL THE WORKERS WERE POLITE AND WOULD SAY HELLO WHEN I LEFT. IT IS AMAZING HOW MUCH THE SIDEWALK AND DRIVEWAYS MAKE THE HOUSE LOOK BETTER. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK THEY DID AND WILL USE THEM AGAIN IF THE NEED EVER ARISES.

IT WAS GOOD, VERY GOOD. I WOULD SAY IF YOU NEED THAT KIND OF WORK, THEY'RE THE ONES YOU SHOULD CALL. THEY WERE GOOD (A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE THEY GOT HERE THEY CALLED). ONCE THEY GOT ONE OF THE OWNERS, HE WENT OVER IT AND THEY STARTED IT AND WERE RIGHT ON SCHEDULE. THEY FINISHED ON TIME, AND IT WAS CLEAN.

SO FAR EVERYTHING IS VERY GOOD. I WON'T KNOW UNTIL THE END OF THE PROCESS, BUT SO FAR EVERYONE IS VERY GOOD AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THE FOREMAN WAS VERY GOOD AT COMMUNICATION IN TELLING ME EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THEY DON'T MAKE YOU PAY ALL UP FRONT.

IT WAS GOOD, FINE AND FAIR. I WOULD SAY IT WAS A GOOD SERVICE. THERE WAS NOTHING SPECIFIC ABOUT THE WORK THAT STANDS OUT TO ME.
