I've already recommended him to a neighbor. I paid cash, it was reasonable. They are friendly and the price is good. They come right away and guarantee their work.

While readying a rental apartment for occupancy, I noticed the jets were clicking in rotation one by one continously. The previous week, I'd heard one jet clicking. This clicking stopped after I turned the gas on for a few seconds and then shut it off. The following week, all the jets were clicking continuously. Turning them on and then shutting them off didn't work, so I pulled the plug. Also, the oven door handle was loose and missing a screw. I call the Sid Phillips Appliance Service on the 18th of September, and after informing the receptionist of the problems, she scheduled an appointment for the following afternoon after telling me that the $85 service call fee would be applied toward any repair. When the serviceman arrived, I told him what the issues were. He proceeded to turn on all the jets. He then informed me that I had a gas leak which would be very expensive to repair especially on an "old" stove. I informed him that it was only about 4 years old (and looked brand-new after being cleaned up), but he thought it was at least 15 years old. I had to insist that a gas leak was not the problem, but rather it was the automatic ignition system and that the smell of gas was because he had turned the jets on and off several times. The cost to replace the ignition was $185 plus tax. He grudgingly went to fetch a new ignition. I then asked him about the door handle. He said that he didn't have a screw for it because the plastic receptacle on the handle within the door was stripped. I paid him by check, and I was done with this surly serviceman who didn't seem to want to do the work - just argue and collect the service fee. (When I got home, I checked my records and saw that I was right on the money: the stove was purchased in the Fall of 2008. I ordered the handle on line and replaced it myself the following week )
Description of Work: Repair of kitchen stove. Ignition starter replacement.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, a new tenant, who was arriving some time that day from South Carolina, had called the gas company to turn on gas service for her apartment. I went to the building to ensure that someone would be there to give access to the cellar and apartment. The gas serviceman informed me that the oven wasn't working and that the heating element to the electronic ignition system would have to be replaced. About 2pm, I called Sid Phillips Appliance Repair Service, a company I had used several times in the past and about whom I submitted a favorable report last year, hoping for an appointment later that day. The invidual who answered the phone was defensive and rude, not letting me finish a sentence in response to his questions. As I was in a hardware store nearby having duplicate keys made, I was unable to give the name of the appliance - only that the stove was about 4 years old. He said that a service call was $75 in cash. When I told him that I'd used the company in the past and either paid by check or credit, he vociferously insisted that that's how it is now - they've gotten bad checks from customers I finally was able to schedule an appointment for the following day between 4-7pm but was ambivalent about this service because of the attitude; however, I was satisfied with their work in the past and was in a bind with a new tenant arriving shortly. Late the following morning, I called Phillips to confirm the appointment as I usually do when I have to be present (this time because they wanted cash) and my building is at least 45 minutes away. I also wanted to inform them that the stove was a Hotpoint and that the gas serviceman had said it needed a new heating element for the electronic ignition sytem. Well, he launched into a lecture on the difference between a "gas man" and a "service technician," stupid!. When I told him I was well aware of the difference and that I was only informing him what the gas man had said, he got nasty and started cursing at me. I hung up! I then checked the "List" and was dismayed to see a recent, similar experience reported by a member who mentioned something about "Lucci Service." This struck a chord with me because I had had a similiar encounter with a rude person when I had called then years ago. A trusted friend had given me the name of a competent individual who performed appliance repair. When he returned my call, I told him what had happened. He informed me that Sid Phillips had retired and LUCCI had bought the business. Case closed! Anyway, this individual performed this service on Friday. I shall make a report on him henceforth.
Description of Work: After extremely defensive and rude behavior, I hung up on the person who had answered the phone. The man was so nasty, I didn't want to cancel the appointment which had been scheduled for 4-7pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, for repair on a Hotpoint oven. Later that day, a serviceman called to confirm the appointment, and I informed him of the behavior of the man who answered my earlier call and would no longer need their services.

I called this company because I had previously had good experiences with this company. I had someone who was going to be coming out to give me an estimate to fix my washer. They didn't have the hinge to fix my washer. The model number was worn out. We called Sears to get the model number. I called this company back and left them a message about the model number. No one had called me back. I kept calling the company, during regular business hours too, and no one ever answered. Finally, a couple of days later, I got ahold of someone. I informed the person who I spoke with that no one had been calling me back. The gentleman told me they had been very busy and was very rude to me. I asked for his name and he was very rude in his response to tell me that he didn't care about his name and hung up. I called back and he said someone was looking up the model number for the hinge on the washer. The guy said he hung up because I was giving him a hard time. I wasn't giving him a hard time, I was questioning why no one had called me back. I talked to the mechanic next and he gave me a ridiculous price. When the mechanic called me, it was listed as SID Phillips on my phone, but I had received a receipt from the company called Lucci. The mechanic, Dwndee, hung up on me also because I questioned the price. I confronted them about this and they said maybe the answering service gave me the wrong number because they deal with a few different companies. I am unclear as to which company I was working with or if this company is trying to use different names. If this is two different companies, I would cut my ties with Lucci because they were rude on the phone.

This semi-emergency was brought to my attention early one day, and the problem was resolved the following day. This was great service, particularly when I didn't have to go to the building which is about an hour to hour and a half round trip from my home. The cost was a little high for the repair, but not when I consider that it resolved a problem quickly and saved me a trip.
Description of Work: In the past, I have used their service, but on prior two occasions, the repairman called back to advise me that the items' (refrigerator/stove) repair was too costly, and I was charged for a service call. A tenant complained that their refrigerator was not working on Tuesday, June 23, so I called Sid Phillips Appliance Service Company. They returned my call shortly and advised me that they would call the tenant Wednesday morning to schedule a service call for some time that day and asked me for my name and billing address. The serviceman called saying that the repair had been made and the charge would be $244.

My refrigerator was making a puddle on the floor about every other day. called Sid Phillips, he came on time, was very friendly and courteous. He looked at the refrigerator, determined it was just something simple like a blocked drain. He unblocked it for me, told me what to look for next time, cleaned up the area. I am thoroughly satisfied with his honesty.
Description of Work: I told him the problem, water on the floor in front of my refrigerator almost every other day. He looked the unti over and told me it was something as simple as a blocked drain inside the freezer compartment. he cleaned out the ice and the drain itself. He could have just as easily told me it was some mechanical part and i'd not have known

Mr. Phillips came out after a botched repair job by another repairman. He informed me that the part replaced by the other company was not the malfunctioning part at all. Rather than spending the money on the expensive repair, Mr. Phillips suggested I purchase a new refrigerator, which I did. I appreciated his forthright manner and honesty.
Description of Work: He came and diagnosed a problem with the refrigerator in my house which had been poorly worked on by another repairman.

When I called they got the info they needed while I was on the line so the guy would come ready to work. The guy they sent out was very nice, explained everything thoroughly, told me exactly what it would cost up front and even told me what my options were.
Description of Work: Dryer motor went out, they came the same day and had it completely replaced in maybe 20 minutes.

The repairman was prompt, quick and reasonably priced. I would call call him again if in need.
Description of Work: Dryer heated up, but did not rotate. The repairman quickly determined that belt had broken, before opening machine. He stated that if no other part was needed, the repair would cost $90. He examined the machine, determined that nothing else was broken and charged me $90 plus tax.
