Roger De Electric Co

Roger was extremely receptive to answering even the most minute questions. He returned calls/e-mails promptly. His services were professional and neat, and he fulfilled all requests amicably. He made me feel comfortable with the work. I prefer paying more for an experienced licensed contractor who will perform a quality job, as opposed to paying less for a job that may need repairs in the future. I would not hesitate to use Roger De Electrical again and would definitely recommend him to others.

We have been setting up a small apartment in a new building in Brooklyn as a pied-a-terre. We had hired a handyman to do some painting and hardware installation, and asked if he had an electrician that could extend a 3-way outlet and install a low-voltage transformer. Unfortunately, because we are not living at the apartment full-time, we were unable to be around to supervise the work; though the handyman was great, his electrician made a mess of things, and I needed to hire someone to sort it out. In spite of the small size of the job, I was able to schedule Roger fairly soon at at time when I could get to the apartment to meet him. Roger called about an hour in advance and arrived as promised along with his two associates. I explained the problem and he quickly found several problems that needed correcting. Not only did the handyman fail to properly wire some of the components, the electrical contractor for the building construction evidently created some problems as well. Roger discovered that one of the wire clamps was too tight as installed originally and was causing a short. Roger fixed the problems caused by the previous installations and then went one step further: he said "Given the poor job on this wiring, we'd better check other circuits and the panel to make sure everything is OK". So they checked all the other outlets for ground and correct function, and pulled the panel and found many loose connections. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Highly recommended.

From our phone contact with Roger De's courteous office assistant, Jennifer, through the final walk through after the breaker box installation, I have nothing but further praise for this professional. I asked Roger first to combine a visit to our home to make a small repair on a dangling junction box in a difficult-to-reach location in our basement ceiling, while also estimating the work needed, and cost, for a new breaker panel. When I saw the care that Roger and his assistant took with the small job (even sweeping clean the basement floor below the junction box) I was confident they would bring as much as much attention to my larger job. As others here have noted, Roger took the time to explain both what I needed -- and what I did not need -- so I did not over-purchase and over-pay for upgrades that I could forgo. At the same time, he strategically discussed options for future upgrades and lines in our home as time and funds permit. Roger arrived exactly when expected (if not a bit earlier) and the replacement of the circuit breaker panel was done fully as expected. With his assistant, I then walked through the house checking all circuits so Roger could correctly identify them on the breaker panel. He then took the time to make sure I knew how these breakers would appear if a circuit tripped, and how to reset them as needed. Of course, he noted that a frequently tripping breaker would indicate a more significant problem with a circuit -- but we've had no such problems since the new box was installed. I feel our home is safer since Roger De Electric performed this work and I look forward to contracting with him further as we do other electrical work on our property.

On March 13th Roger De Candia came to our house and went thru' all the suggestions made by the inspector; inspecting double tapping in the two distribution panels, wire splices with an extension cord under a jacuzzi tub that were not contained in a junction box (I was told to definitely not use the tub 'til repaired), two fuses for the gas steam boiler, extension cord type wiring for two ceramic heaters in the unheated basement and several outlets which were ungrounded, painted over, had reverse polarity, were loose in the wall or had a defective GFCI switch. Within two days he called with his estimate and since there was no emergency we agreed to have the work done in six weeks (He is very, very busy). In early-May when I called to make sure I was still on his list he set up an appointment for Monday the 13th at 8 AM. At exactly that time he came with Joe and Jason and repaired all the problems described and more. They labeled the circuit breakers in the 27" X 15" distribution box that they installed (and found that arcing of a doubletapped circuit had wielded a screw in place), they patched walls where extension cord type wiring was removed, they properly attached an outlet box and a light switch box that had been recessed behind new drywall that had been installed to fireproof the boiler room. Then Roger consulted with my husband who was unhappy with the dim lighting in his basement studio space. The next day Roger tested an LED fixture which fit perfectly into the high hat fixture but provided at least 5 times the amount of light and was dimable. In two days he was able to find 11 of theses fixtures with their associated dimmer switch, he installed them for $1385 and the basement lighting problem is solved. Roger De Electric is a small, very busy company because Roger insists upon personally maintaining the quality, service and efficiency that comes from a work ethic that we rarely see.

From beginning to end it was a pleasurable experience. After leaving a phone message, I was contacted by his office personnel which kept me up to date on availability and scheduling. Since I was meeting him at the apartment and had a long drive, he worked with me on the time of day. He kept in contact, arrived on time, worked neatly and professionally and suggested options for install. I am planning future work at the apartment so I had questions and he was extremely helpfull. I would definitely hire him again and am planning on doing so next year when I do my kitchen renovation.

I went to Lowes to purchase the fixtures and called to make an appointment. They were polite and extremely helpful. So the first appointment was approx 2 weeks before the final one. I had bought 2 ceiling fans. The installer was prompt and pleasant. He explained everything as he worked. Unfortunately it was not possible to install one of the ceiling fans because the placement of the fixture was too close the wall. My mistake you live and learn . So I made an appointment for 2 weeks.i returned and exchanged the fixture. The next appointment Roger showed up again on time and was very polite and informative. Everything was completed perfectly. It was a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend this company for future jobs!

Roger was very straightforward and professional from the beginning. I brought several electricians in to get estimates. The first stop was the electrical panel that needed to be replaced. Roger was the only one who actually opened the panel, looked at it, explained what the problems were, and what he intended to do. He took his time looking at the various problems that needed to be fixed and patiently and clearly explained the options. His final quote was notably higher than the others, but I decided to hire him because the level of confidence and trust he inspired was so much higher. I knew that by going with Roger I would feel certain the work had been done thoroughly and correctly, and I wasn't sure I would feel that way with the others. Once he was contracted, Roger was very easy to communicate with, was very responsive, and was very easy to work with in terms of scheduling. We also had paint and floor work done at the same time, and he was very helpful in figuring out how to juggle those schedules and how to solve problems in the event that his work necessitated a power shutdown. I was very happy with the work he did. Everything was accomplished on schedule and on budget, and I have very little doubt it was done well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone and wouldn't think about contacting anyone else for electrical work in the future.

When I first called, Jennifer (who was very nice) took my information and said she'd speak to Roger and get back to me. She called me the next day and said that unfortunately Roger wouldn't be able to service my area of Brooklyn. I had remembered a friend who lived nearby had used the company a few years prior, and called Jennifer back to tell her this. She said she would ask Roger again and get back to me. When I didn't hear from her, I assumed that was the end of that, but was surprised to get a call from Roger one evening. He explained that the company used to be in Brooklyn, but had since moved to SI, and now they really only serviced parts of Brooklyn and not really my area. He said he was very busy, and if I didn't mind waiting (anywhere from 2 weeks to a month), then he'd put me on his schedule and fit me in. He asked about my issue, and I told him that the high hats in my kitchen had started flickering, intermittently. He said it sounded like the dimmer switch and didn't think it was anything dangerous, and I agreed to wait for his call. He called me 2 weeks later and agreed to meet me after work (at 2:25 PM). He was waiting for me when I got home. Of course, the lights were not flickering when he came, but he changed one dimmer switch, hoping that would solve the problem. He expained that the intermittent flickering was the hardest problem to locate. He also did some other things, like changing a doorbell, and a circuit in the electrical panel. Unfortunately, shortly after he left, the lights began to flicker again. He agreed to come 2 days later, before I left for work at 7:30 AM. He arrived at 7:10 AM. He changed the 2nd dimmer switch, changing both dimmers to regular switches instead. He reversed the wires in 3 outlets in the living room, which had been wired in reverse by our contractor. As of now, the kitchen lights are cooperating (fingers crossed.) I found Roger to be extremely honest, keeping his word about putting me on his schedule, and felt I could trust his suggestions. He was patient with all of my questions and very knowledgeable. He was very dedicated to figuring out and solving the problem. This is a gem of a company. I would recommend them to anyone, and already have. Everyone has horror stories about contractors who are impossible to reach, never call you back, or condescend to you because they know you need them---Roger is none of the above, and it was not only a pleasure dealing with him, but it was refreshing as well.

He came prior to the expected time and waited for me (a couple of minutes) and then performed a professional job in a reasonable time (less than an hour). The outcome was better than I could have hoped for. I also asked for pricing and the advisability on additional work, ie infrared lighting for the bathroom and additional lighting for a stairway. He was extremely precise, checking the areas and giving me a professional opinion and approximate costs for both. For any other electrical needs he will be first on my list to call.

I called in the morning about a problem with a circuit breaker. Jennifer called back, and said that Roger was booked, but would she would call if he could make it to my home today. An hour later she called to say that Roger would be here between 2 and 3 this afternoon, and Roger AND Roger were here by 2:15 PM. They analyzed the problem, installed new equipment and were on their way within an hour. They thoroughly explained what the problem had been, and their solution. A thoroughly professional and pleasant experience from beginning to end.

The electrician arrived on time and gave a clear overview and cost estimate of the job. We had a number of electrical outlets in our apartment that had stopped working. He located and replaced a burnt-out electrical outlet. He also checked all of the outlets in our apartment to ensure that they had been installed properly and were still in working condition. He cleaned up after the job and was thoroughly professional throughout.

I needed a new ceiling fan and a repair of task lighting in my 1920's home. The receptionist was friendly and asked a few questions to ascertain what we needed. An appointment for an estimate was made within a week; the electrician was prompt and outlined the job, affirming that the fan I wanted to buy would be workable. He gave an estimate that included both the straightforward work as well as what might only be found when the old ceiling fan was removed. They accommodated our narrow window of availablity, confirmed two days before, and arrived on time. Their work was professional, clean and came in at the lower end of the estimate. I would not hesitate to use them again.

I own a 110 year old brownstone in Park Slope. While the electrical system has been updated on a when-needed basis over that period, the basement had been largely neglected. Going into the job, I hoped to improve the basement lighting and add outlets to support the installation of a new washer and dryer. Roger impressed me from start to finish. First, during the initial estimate, he listened carefully as I described the electrical changes I envisioned for my basement. He examined the existing infrastructure and asked me about any long run plans I had for the building. He recognized that the size of the existing panels would not have the space necessary for the new circuits I envisioned in the basement. Because I mentioned that I had future plans to install a split system AC and other higher wattage devices in part of the building, he suggested that I might consider upgrading one of the electrical panels to 200amp service while making the changes to the basement. I felt this was good advice that it would ultimately save me time and money and decided to increase the scope of the work to include upgrading the electrical service. Roger provided a detailed proposal and a reasonable price for the work in a timely fashion. He took care of all proper approvals and permits, and once obtained, he worked hard to rapidly complete the job. The quality of the completed work is excellent. My new electrical service is neatly organized, well-labelled, and exceed current code requirements. Roger tidied up the existing circuits as he tied them into the new breaker boxes. The new basement circuits are neat and well-placed. I feel his work has greatly improved the overall safety of my building and will make future improvements to the building much easier. Besides delivering on the job defined in the original proposal, I feel that Roger left the work site cleaner than it was when he started the job. He also was very friendly and took extra time to answer questions about electrical topics that extended beyond the work that he completed. As an added bonus, he also identified and managed to repair a faulty ground on a receptacle that unfixed could potentially have had disastrous consequences. This was outside of the scope of the job, but Roger completed the small repair without charge and without having to run a new circuit or damage the existing plaster work. I've had experience working with other electricians, and I was most impressed the Roger De Electric. I plan to use him for my future electrical projects.

Truly EXCEPTIONAL work. Roger is the ultimate professional; his work ethic is from another century--it is certainly rare to find this high level of work nowadays. We have renovated homes in NY, MA, ME, CT & CA & have never encountered this level of professionalism, skill, knowledge, courtesy, punctuality, honesty, ease of communication, neatness, & creativity in an electrician. Roger is absolutely outstanding, as is his team, both on-site & office staff. His estimates are right on the mark, his skill is extraordinary & he is a delight to work with. The consumate professional. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend him for any project. An "A" rating does not do him justice---it needs to be "A++".

Roger was fantastic. He gave me very specific information for addressing code violations. I now know what questions to ask my contractor, and what to insist on to ensure my kitchen meets code. His explanations and recommendations, which included technical information for someone not in the construction field, were very clear. Pleasant, professional, knowledgable, a clear communicator, a thorough and thoughtful approach - I cannot recommend him highly enough. Unfortunately the under-cabinet lighting cannot reasonably and cost-effectively be rewired, and I say unfortunately not just because it would have made the kitchen a little more user friendly, but also because I would love to give Roger my business. He will have it going forward. I've already given his name and contact info to a friend. If I could give an A+, I would do so.

I spoke with Jennifer, Roger's receptionist, who set up our appointment in a timely manner. Roger came on time and did the job quickly and efficiently. He also did a great job explaining what the issues were and instructing us on what to do next. It was a great experience and I would definitely hire him again.

The owner Roger was a great guy to deal with. Very professional ,knowledgeable and I felt very comfortable with him . I was very happy with the work that was done. Roger went out of his way to get this project done as soon as possible because the wiring was very old and it was a dangerous situation. I now feel confident to know I have an electrician for any future work needing to be done. Also, I received a 10% discount because I found this company through Angie's List. That was a great perk.

Office staff was helpful, given a time window when tech would arrive. Technician arrived within that time. Techs were professional and pleasant

The service was excellent. He was able to help us out right away. We were in desperate need and we really appreciated he came right out.

I left a voice mail message with a detailed message of our electrical problem and was called back in about 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, they do not service Queens, as they are located in Staten Island. The gentleman did tell me to call Con Ed because it sounded to him that it was an outside line problem. That information saved me a lot of time and frustration trying to find another electrician to come out to the house ASAP, as we don't have heat because of the outage. Although we won't be able to use their company because of the distance, it was extremely nice of him to offer his opinion and assistance.

I called Roger De Electric because I had just fired my general contractor (who completely screwed up the electrical wiring in a basement I was remodeling) and I was in a real bind. I left a message on the company's voice mail and received a prompt response. He set up a time with me to look at the job and showed up 10 minutes early. For anyone who has ever done a remodel, you'll know how rare that is, right off the bat. So my first impressions were already good. He looked at the job, shook his head in disgust at how badly the previous contractor screwed me over, and said "I usually don't take on other people's messes; especially one as bad as this... But in your case, I'll make an exception." He honestly felt terribly about the desperate situation I was in. He worked with me to come up with the fairest price, promptly filed all the necessary permits with the Buildings Department, and got to work straightaway. Within a few days, the thick, unintelligible cobweb of wires had been neatened, properly labeled and organized. It was at that moment, I knew I picked the right guy for the job. As the job went on, Roger showed up every time he said he would and finished ahead of schedule. He also found issues I wasn't aware of and took it upon himself to fix it (at no extra charge). To describe him as 'meticulous' only scratches the surface of his character. He has a true passion for what he does and it shows in his work. I couldn't say enough wonderful things about him. If you need a solid guy, who knows his business inside and out, don't even bother looking elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and call him immediately!!

After providing a free estimate a few days earlier, Roger and Joe showed up right on time for the appointment we set. They got right to work and executed the work noted above both skillfully and professionally. Roger and Joe were communicative about what they were doing. When multiple options were possible, they fully explained everything and answered all my questions. Roger promptly answered the emails I sent regarding the work. Roger, his assistant Joe, and the staff on the phone were all friendly and easy to communicate with.

Very happy with the overall experience.
