N & L DECKS R US

Actually got his company off the Trex website since I was adamant about using the product. I met with a few companies and then made an appointment for an estimate with Nick the owner. He offered a competitive price with plenty of references of his past work. He came with samples of ideas and actual materials that I wanted to use. The entire job was done within 1 week from start to finish. His team arrived early everyday and I saw a huge amount of progress each time I came home. Nick was open to ideas and helped me with some decisions along the was without overstepping any bounds. It was truly a pleasure and I hope to use his services for more projects on my home.

Everything went great - they arrived with their material, tools. They were neat and cleaned up after them selves and we discussed everything along the way so that there were no surprises. I wish all my projects went that smoothly.

Nick was the most professional contractor I have had to do work on my condo ( And I have employed around 10-15 in the past year!) He evaluated the job, did a sketch right then and there, with an estimate, and showed me exactly what the cost woudl entail. We discussed materials and functionality. He went back to his shop, and VOILA!! came back and installed both decks in nearly one day. The installation was amazing--a well-oiled machine. Nick was courteous, friendly and treated his workers well (nice to see). we did need to call them back to fix one of our decking palettes, and Nick came back and did that, although it took awhile. Nick is not always the fastest to respond to emails or phonecalls, but he does eventually. They are not cheap, but are very worth it for the professionalism and the good quality product. WWe really love our new decks.

(02/02/2010) I regret writing a review like this. I had high expectations for this firm based on all the A ratings. I am sorry to have to agree with the other person who gave them an F. Even if they called me now I would be concerned about their responsiveness after the job was completed if there ever was an issue with the finished product. UPDATE (04/19/2010) I found the company on Angie's List and liked the reviews I had read. I called and left two messages for an estimate that were not returned, so I posted about it here. As soon as Nick read it he called me and apologized and said he would come out to see the job right away even though it was snowing. I decided to see him only because of all the positive reviews here. I was not disappointed. My husband and I could tell right away that Nick was very knowledgeable and professional. He was able to draw out the plans, explained the entire job from start to finish and offered us options on the type of material we were interested in. He sent us an estimate by email by the next morning. We had to wait about two months to start due to the weather. In the meantime I sent Nick many emails with questions and he returned them immediately. He answered all my questions, addressed all my concerns, came back again to my home with samples and reviewed the whole job with me before starting work. The men showed up promptly at 7:30 am each day and began immediately. The work went smoothly and the crew of 6 were professional, clean and courteous. Nick joined the crew and did some of the work also. The job took 4 days. Part of the order was missing from the delivery of the deck material. Nick sent the men to pick it up the next morning rather than wait for it to be delivered so the job would not be delayed. No matter how many questions I asked Nick or the crew they always answered me with a full explanation and all the details I wanted to know. I told Nick that I regretted having to post the negative review and I am very glad to be able to write a completely positive account of the services he and his men provided for us. The deck is beautiful and looks just as I hoped it would.

I called this company purely on the basis of its being on Angie's List. I had had another contractor come to look at the job, but was not at all impressed by his visit. Nick Ercolano made an appointment to look at the job, came as promised, got back to us w/an estimate - giving all the different options from which we could choose, options that would impact the price. We decided what we wanted to do, made a start date and everything went exactly as he said it woud: they arrived on the agreed to date, did the work on the schedule he'd promised, cleaned up after themselves every night (it was a 4 day job) and finished on time and on budget. I cannot say enough about Nick's professionalism. Not only did he and his crew do the job beautifully, but he was very responsive to our questions and concerns - returned all calls and answered all questions. I will definetly use his services again.

I was pleased with the professionalism and punctuality of the team. Every man knew his job and they worked well as a cohesive unit. The deck was finished in a day and a half with no surprises and the quality of the work is very much to our liking. They did an excellent job and I am extremely pleased with my deck.

The most difficult part of the project was gaining approval for it. Originally, we wished to construct a 14' X 14' wooden deck. Zoning ordinances required a variance and...due to our township bureaucracy and one objecting neighbor...gaining final approval for a much modified project took 5 months. Once approval was obtained, it took the Decks R Us crew of 10 men only TWO DAYS to complete from start to finish. When the project failed township "final inspection" due to a few minor issues (that Nick Ercolano/Decks R Us attempted to avoid with specific questions to a difficult inspector) Nick and his team made the changes in one day. Even the difficult inspector commented that "these fellows did good work." (A rave!). If responsiveness, honesty, reliability, professionalism good customer service and technical skill are important to you, use Decks R Us. They did everything associated with the project (took away our basketball pool/ hoop and any concrete they had to destroy) and left our yard spotlessly clean. All workers were pleasant, polite, responsible....and legal. My project was very small compared to some of those they have built, but I always felt that my project was important to them. I am not knowledgeable about building, permits, inspections, etc. and required considerable "hand-holding" through the process. Nick was extremely patient with me. Nothing was ever "a problem." Decks R Us price was about 10-15% higher than other bids and was more than we had planned to spend on the project. However, it was well worth the extra money for the service, skill and speed with which they constructed our deck/patio. We love it!

I give N&L Decks R Us my absolute highest recommendation. From the beginning, Nick was professional, punctual, and responsive -- he even took a call at 10:30pm because that was the only time we and our neighbors could meet to go over construction plans. He's a top-notch communicator who intuitively understood what we wanted to do with our roof from the get-go, and made the entire process easy, worry-free, and enjoyable. Whatever the nature of the space you've dreamed of having on your roof or in your yard, Nick will find a way to make it happen. He knows his stuff and so does his crew -- they completed the above job in just two days, and on the second day they were finished before 4pm, despite having to stop early the day before due to rain. We were astounded by their speed and efficiency. We couldn't be happier with the space Nick and his team have given us. It's beautiful, well-crafted, and best of all we don't feel like we had to break the bank to get it done. If you've been going back and forth about whether to pull the trigger on a project like this, I can say with utmost confidence that N&L Decks R Us will knock it out of the park. Thanks again, guys!

It took a week for me to get a call back. The person I spoke to was very nice. I said I was surprised that they are listed as servicing Bergen County since their main office was in Staten Island. He agreed but said that he would try to help me. He asked me to take photos of the backyard; the deck area; so he could get a general idea. He additionally asked me to take measurements and make a sketch and send it. This all took me quite a while to do. But I did it - labeled every photo; made sure that all the photos were in order and the proper size to send through email. I emailed the information. A week passed - no response. I called and left a voice mail message asking if the email was received and if someone would be kind to call me back. No response. Caveat Emptor - buyer beware. Thank you.

They came out to my house and they did a good job. They were also very neat. They pricing was very reasonable, and I was satisfied with the work.

We went to buy a pool filter which lead in to buying a 4 foot pool on June 1. The pool was going to be installed on June 17. I called around for prices on putting in a pool deck I got some crazy prices way more then we were looking to spend. I called the place we got the pool from and they recommended Decks R Us. I called them. Nick called me back right away. Came to the house and saw our 2nd floor deck was no good and had to be replaced so he gave us a great price on both decks. He took down our old deck on June 17 at 7 am. The pool was put in later that day. Nick and his crew came back on that Thursday and did our 2nd floor deck. On Friday they came and put in the pool deck. By Saturday our backyard looked like something from a home and garden mag. They did a great job and fast very nice people to deal with very honest. We are going to have cement work done in may by them also. I can't believe that our once muddy nasty back yard now looks so good. They worked fast did a great job. Love everything.

Decks R Us did a terrific job/! I found them on Angie's List and was impressed by the reports left by other customers. We had an estimate for our project within a week and a half of the initial call. The costs were a bit over our budget, but after talking with Nick about our options we were able to come up with a revised plan. Nick then came over one more time to fine tune the details. Less than a week later we had a project start date and an arrival time of 7:30am. The efficiency with how the deck and patio went up was amazing. There were no less than 12 workers in our back yard and by the end of the day the wood deck was finished and the cement for the patio was laid. The project was finished by 3pm the next day. Nick originally projected 3-4 days for the project and so seeing it completed so fast was incredible. Nick and his partner, Mike, gave us updates on the progress of the project and their attention for detail was impressive. We couldn't be happier.

They were efficient, fast and priced well. They were nice guys.

They did a fabulous job - from start to finish. I had called many contractors for estimates. I learned how independent contractors can be and Nick was the only one that gave me the estimate when promised - even the exact time I would receive it! I felt very comfortable with Decks R Us from that point on. The price was competitive, they started the job on the date promised, arrived on time, and completed the job in the amount of time promised. They were very neat and thorough. I have recommended them to many people. I have future home improvements planned and would use Decks R Us again without any hesitation.

This is a professional outfit that does quality work. Calls were answered promptly, appointments were kept. We wanted to use fairly traditional, quality materials and have a deck with quality details. They did a nice job. The crew was skilled and reliable. One crew did the stone work; one crew built the deck. The same crew came each day. Nick was on site daily. The project took five days. The work area was kept organized and neat. It has been slow to get the very last pieces done due to some lighting that was delayed, but I cannot say that that is a big deal. The quality of workmanship was excellent. The stonework on the patio area is fantastic. I was particularly impressed as well that Nick insisted on professionalism in his crew. When we wanted to buy the guys drinks at the end of the day, he was clear about no beer or alcohol. They also do home renovation and we will continue to bid jobs with them in the future.

We were really impressed with this company. They charged us a fair price for the job. The deck looks great and we surely enjoy it now. The company was prompt, they were reliable and dependable. They hired good workers in my personal opinion. I would highly recommend them to others for any decking or porch needs. They are the place to use in this area, I am convinced.

No muss no fuss or stress. Arrived on time every day work was done in a very professional manner and was completed very quickly. Quality of the work is exceptional and no detail was overlooked.

Nick, Mike and the rest of the Decks R Us staff were extremely hard-working, NEAT and professional. I was a little concerned, being I live in a townhouse attached on both sides, and the only way I could have pavers installed was to go through my neighbors yard, yet, Decks R Us assured my neighbor that this would be completed in a timely matter and all material would be cleaned up at the end of each day. They did an extremely neat job, and my neighbors was not concerned at all, after seeing their work the first day! I give them an A+++ and I have already recommended them to my friends and family.

We were very impressed with both Nick and Mike. They are very professional. They make appointments and actually keep them and they always responded to our phone calls. We originally contracted to just have a deck built. We had been dealing with another contractor to have the yard graded and the pavers installed but that contractor put us off several times by never returning our calls and making appointments and either not showing up or canceling at the last minute. When Nick mentioned that he had a crew that also did pavers we met with Mike and decided on the spot to have Decks R Us do both. They made suggestions which we hadn't thought of and the whole project was done in a little more than a week. The crew showed up EVERY morning by 8 am and worked through the day sometimes finishing as late as 6:30 pm (even on Saturday). They cleaned up each evening and never left a mess. I cannot say enough good things about them and our yard now looks like a showplace.

Wonderful from start to finish. Nick was very direct with the services provided. Received 3 other estimates and this was the only estimate which listed line by line, the details of the project. Also very competitively priced. Committed to promise to have the removal and installation completed in 2 days. Very surprised and impressed that the job was done in one full day. We are so pleased with the way Nick conducted himself during the entire process of negotiating the price, working with us with a design and providing consistent customer service before and after the installation of our deck. Not only did Nick carefully listen to our needs but created a magnificent budget which we were pleased with and able to work with. DecksRUs competitors had no chance of obtaining our business due to price and workmanship. In addition to Nicks superb customer service skills, Jillian (the office manger)provided excellent service. Jillian contacted me with updates and answered numerous questions I had. Jillian was always prompt on calling me back with any requests and even emailed me the contract to my job for my review. The deck r us crew who assembled the deck were courteous and responsive to any of my questions during the construction. They worked together as a team and always had a smile on their face.

My deck I thought was made from good quality materials with good carpentry skills. I feel it is really sturdy and will last a long time. I know I will recommend them to other people because we really enjoy using our new deck.

Nick and his small army of workers installed two roof decks for two apartments in our building in one day and two hours. In addition to being fast, they did quality work. The walking surface they designed floats on wood and rubber pressure points to minimize stress to the roof. It all looks wonderful. Decks R Us was by far the most organized, efficient and pleasant contracting experience I have ever had. I highly recommend them.

MY EXPERIENCE WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I WOULD RECCOMMEND THIS COMPANY WITH NO HESITATION. NICK WAS A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH. HIS WORKERS WERE POLITE AND KNEW THEIR JOBS.
