Richie was on time for both the estimate and the day we had scheduled to do the work. The work was carried out in the same day and met my expectations. Richie and his team were very professional and I would hire them again.

Vinny arrived promptly with a large crew that did an outstanding job including doing additional work not included in the initial estimate without charging me extra. They were efficient, clean, thorough and did an excellent job. I got several quotes for the job and they were one of the best, but I went with them because I was impressed with Vinny's professionalism at our initial encounter. I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend his crew to anyone considering any mason work.

The interior basement walls of our old (1902) colonial are just painted brick, and the bottom two feet have been slowly crumbling to dust over the past twenty years, mostly mortar but also some brick facing/ I recently cleaned out the garden room, and decided to repoint the walls with mortar. In the process I also mortared over the sections with crumbled fasing most of them very thin, trying to get a fairly smooth surface overall. My question was, what to do next? My inclination was to apply a mortar sealer, or maybe DryLok, and paint it black as it was before, in hopes that would make the job permanent. But I wanted professional advice. I called several masons and described the job to them. Mr. Brickman was the only one who actually showed up. He gave me very good advice: don't seal the moisture in with either sealer or paint, but instead stucco over entire the wall about 1/4" deep, using the same brick mortar. That way any moisture that gets through the brick will be able to wick off through the stucco instead of being trapped inside and destroying the brick further. I showed him the rest of the basement, and he gave me a good quote for doing the whole basement. When I told him I'd like to do the mortaring of the open wall myself, he actually encouraged me, and advised me of the best product to use. Overall he struck me as a very straight-up, honest guy. Very good vibe. On that basis alone I'd strongly recommend him.

I called Richie for an estimate and they came within a day.. He gave me a price and it was very reasonable. They sent a crew of 3 to do the work on Nov 2nd , which was about 10 days after the estimate. They were here early, finished in about 2 hours and cleaned up. Everything was done that they were asked to do. The workers were courteous and professional. Yes I would recommend them and I would use them again.

Ritchie and his team did a great job. They were actually able to do our job a few days early. The pavers look better now than before they were removed by the Plumbing contractor-everything is now perfectly level. They were fast, neat and professional. This is the second job I've used Mr. Brickman for and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Richie did a great job in fixing the broken step, tightening up all the railings and sealing cracks in the other steps. He also gave us a fair price quote to have pavers re-sent and to re do our staircase. We will defintely be using Mr. Brickman again for this work!
Description of Work: Richie came and gave me a reasonable estimate for a small job fixing a broken concrete step and crumbling brick work on my front stoop. He gave me an honest assessment of the work to be done as well as other work I was considering having done.

The vendor provided an estimate based on pictures that I emailed to them.
Description of Work: To be CLEAR - I did not have work performed by this vendor , and they did provide an estimate quickly. I contacted the vendor and they quickly responded to phone message with a call back. Made an appointment for Saturday afternoon to come out. but after I waited at home all morning they called Saturday afternoon and said traffic was bad. I wanted to reschedule, but then they said in reality it was a long drive to NJ to provide an estimate for such a small job, but they could provide an estimate if I sent pictures of the damage. They did use the pictures and quickly emailed a written estimate that same day, which I appreciated. The price was much higher than next lowest estimate and it did not include repairing my railing for that price, They do not do railing repairs. They said based on the pictures I didn't need railing repaired, but it turned out when I got the work done by someone else, it did need to be repaired. So, if I would have booked them, the cost would have gone way higher than the estimate because they don't repair railings and I would have had to hire someone separate to do that. But, I was happy they at least took a few minutes to send an estimate. Overall, I appreciated the time they took to make an estimate, but I wish they would not have wasted my time making an appointment for a job that they later admitted was just too small to make the trip, even when I wanted to reschedule for a day when traffic was better.

Response from Mr Brickman Inc
Although we appreciate you taking the time to post a review We cannot understand how you can review us based on a phone call. You state that you were happy with the response time on returning your call but we're unhappy with a call concerning the traffic situations that morning. We provided you with an estimate based on the pictures you provided. We are confused as to how you can post a review on my work when none was ever contracted. We did however give you a written estimate that you said you needed to give to your insurance company so you could have the job done. We gave you the estimate you needed and never heard from you again.

In mid-April, 2014, I contacted Mr Brickman in addition to two other concrete contractors from Angieslist. (There were two destroyed sidewalk squares from recent sewer construction. Several other cracked, broken squares needed repair/replacement.) All three contractors came and recommended the complete replacements as above, had had very good Angies' reviews, and came within $50 of each others' estimates. All three advised replacing the large section right in front of the porch steps. As all three were comparably priced, my decision was "eeny-meeny," and I decided to go with Mr Brickman who had quoted me $2500, originally, the porch-step section an extra $50+. (I assume that the other contractors would've charged more also.) Work was started on June 2 and completed on June 3, 2014, and I paid the contractor in full, $2,600. However, later that day after their "clean-up," I noticed five (5) issues and notified Mr Brickman immediately: 1. Small trenches (4x6" wide by 4-6" deep) on either side of sidewalk and walkway well into grass lawn*; 2. Driveway section broken up 1-2' into driveway*; 3. Broken pieces of concrete and contrete splashed into trenches and lawn*; 4. Wood separators and pieces of scrap wood in trenches*; 5. MAJOR SECTION WRONGLY CONFIGURED. (See "schematic drawing" to follow. Not drawn to scale.)* *Photos attached. After numerous phone calls, the first four items were cleared up by early August when "Richie" came and filled the trenches with soil although he didn't seed these areas. When I pointed out the misconfigured section near the porch steps, saying that the section was done incorrectly, he said, "Everything looks fine." On August 8, I spoke with "Vinnie" about replacing the sections that had been wrongly poured. He actually informed me that that was what I had wanted. I pointed out the trench on the right side of the section where the orginal section had been. I then showed him old photos showing the original configuration (copies attached), and he said he would match up/patch new concrete to the existing work. From late October, 2014, to January, 2015, I have left numerous phone messages, but have not heard back. All in all, I consider the work that was done destructive, rather than an improvement. It looks wrong and lopsided. After extensive restoration in the late '80s, my house received a Staten Island Preservation League Award. The only remedy would be to replace the pavement wholly. Furthermore, my landscaper has given me an estimate of $200. to fill in the "trenches" which are still not filled in.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of 60' of frontage and walkway from sidewalk to porch steps at house front. He didn't properly clean up when finished. Peripheral shallow trenches, posing trip hazards, were created. and the last portion was incorrectly laid out.

Response from Mr Brickman Inc
This is in reply to Barbara Fischer, 135 Seguine Avenue, Staten Island, New York Mrs. Fischer noted 5 issues in her review of my work. All I will address. “Small trenches” Mrs. Fischer states in the opening paragraph following #5 that “Richie came and filled in the trenches with soil although he did not seed the area. This is correct; I did fill in the spaces from where the forms for pouring the concrete were located – as an extra courtesy. This is not usual practice for masons to re-soil the lawn and I am not a landscaper and have never reseeded a lawn. Mrs. Fischer was aware of that. These were not included with the job. At the end of her review, she states that the “trenches are still not filled in,” which is completely contradictory to her opening statement. Pictures are included to clearly show that spaces are filled in with soil. “Driveway section broken” – as you can see by my attached photos, driveway blacktop was cracked and decaying over the entire driveway area previous to my arrival, not just where I had installed concrete. “Concrete splashed…wood in trenches” When forms were removed, all wood was taken away by my company and small over splashes of concrete during pouring are an unavoidable occurrence. All was cleared away. “Major section wrongly configured” As you can see by the drawing posted by Mrs. Fischer, the angles and shape of the concrete I installed match the previous concrete. The shape was what Mrs. Fischer had requested so that it would meet up with a piece she did not want removed or replaced. This existing concrete can be clearly seen in her own photos of the front of her house. This existing concrete leads to nowhere, stopping in the middle of her front lawn. I advised Mrs. Fischer that for aesthetics it would be better to remove this piece. She refused and insisted that we pour the concrete to meet this piece. You can see in my photos, the concrete is clean, neat, intact, and exactly what Mrs. Fischer requested. I am sorry that she has changed her mind about what she wants but it has no bearing on the quality and professionalism of my work. I returned to Mrs. Fischer’s home on more than 4 occasions. At that time I felt that her constant verbal abuse was more than I could continue to accept. She got a fantastic job at a great price but unfortunately she can never be happy. Her review and attack on my work, professionalism, and quality are complete unsubstantiated. Please note all included photos. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll1/mrbrickmaninc/102_4587_zpsjhic2aiv.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll1/mrbrickmaninc/102_4583_zpsg60xlwce.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll1/mrbrickmaninc/102_4586_zpszlxekqvo.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll1/mrbrickmaninc/102_4584_zpsok6rbei0.jpg

This was not the lowest estimate for the job received, but the entire job was completed very promptly and very efficiently. The service and professionalism was perfection, and the finished work looked very nice too. Richie, one of the partners, is a lovely man, and a real pleasure to deal with - he made a stressful undertaking much less so. His recommendation of an iron works vendor for the railings was also "spot on" - reliable and timely and professional service from them too. All in all, my experience with Mr. Brickman was A++++.

Vinny showed up as scheduled.for the estimate and gave us his card with the price. We called back within a day and said we'd like to move ahead, but wanted a formal contract with exactly the work that was going to be performed. We received that within a few days. We made sure everything that was discussed was on the contract. The work was scheduled for several weeks out. They showed up on time with a dump truck and crew of SIX. Amazing. They demoed the porch and started caulking immediately. Once they finished the demolition, the pointing and waterproofing was started and completed. The concrete on the porch was the last thing finished. Rich and Vinny wanted to wait until everything was perfect, so after a short dinner break, they returned to complete the porch (had to wait for the concrete to dry a bit before completion). Didn't leave until the job was done! Cleaned up, protected my neighbor's driveway and car and did, in my opinion, a thorough and professional job. And they were nice guys!
Description of Work: Point and re-point the front of our brick house. Waterproof all the front brick. Remove dried caulking around windows an doors and re-caulk. Replace several stone edges and one stone step on porch. Tear up tiles on porch and lay waterproof barrier and new concrete on the porch.

I scheduled an estimate from Mr. Brickman on April 5th. Vincent (who is partners with Richie at Mr. Brickman) showed up on time and listened to my concerns about the leak we had in the basement. He thoroughly inspected all the areas where the water had come in (both inside and outside) -- and told me what they could do to fix it. He quoted me a price of $3800. This price was for digging up the ground around the foundation, waterproofing, replacing the dirt and cement that would be dug up and cleaning up all materials. He gave me his card with the quote and info about the work to be done. I called back about a week later to schedule a time for the work to begin. He inquired about me signing a contract but we could not find a good time to do so-- in the end I signed the contract when I paid for the work. They showed up on time. They introduced themselves (it was the two owners and two other workers) and we all went downstairs to assess what they were going to do. They started the work, and all during the process they filled me in on what they were doing. I got to take pictures of every step for our records. They did great work-- cleaned up, replaced the cement and even fixed a leaky spigot in the backyard for free. I had a coupon for 5% off of foundation repair from Angie's List-- they were unaware of the coupon, but we agreed on $100 off- so the final price for the work done was $3700. Super nice guys, they know what they are doing and I am confident in the work they have done. I highly recommend Mr. Brickman for any foundation/brickwork repairs.
Description of Work: They dug up the area around the foundation in the front of our building and around the side where the gas pipe enters our building. They waterproofed the area with a giant blowtorch, tar and waterproofing material. They replaced the dirt and cement and cleaned up the area. They also fixed a broken water spigot in the backyard (a very kind gesture since it was an extra job)

Richie and Vinny were professional, and courteous. Their price was strikingly low in contrast to other estimates received. They cleaned up beautifully, were done in no time. Excellent work. It rained recently, and not a drop of water to be seen in the basement. What a pleasure to have such a stressful situation be done away with. My spouse and I will hire them again in a heartbeat. Mr. Brickman was awesome! I almost didn't call him because he had a B rating but when I read why( lunch wrappers?) I decided the reason had nothing to do with his workmanship. All the rest of the ratings were A. He was very professional and came down to look over the work that day. My adjoining neighbor also had some work to be done and he gave both of us a very reasonable bid. I did get two other estimates but liked Mr. Brickman's estimate and obvious knowledge about the work that needed to be done. He arrived with his partner promptly at 8:00 just as he said he would. They worked continually without skipping a beat until the work was done to perfection. They even did more than we asked for - and never charged us! Our front steps now look brand new and the envy of the neighborhood. I would call this company again without hesitation.

Side of the house had a little wetness after a very heavy rain and front of the house had a water leak as it was before. We called them and they came, they fixed the front problem. Since few months they re-fixed the front of the house we have no water coming in from the front . Side of the house was not re-fixed, because we are not getting water from there anymore. If and when we get a water we will let them know and they said they will come and fix it again for free. When they re-fixed the front of the house they did not charge us. We are satisfied with their work, if we need them again we will definitely call on them. They were professional and did a good job.
