I decided to pull the plug on my gym membership, but first had to put some work into my basement to make it decent enough to work out in. I eventually spoke with Lou and was immediately drawn to the direction he provided. Maybe I wasn't speaking to companies with enough experience in this, but he was the only one that didn't want to do an interlocking floor, but instead a thick and adhered rubber gym floor that looks better than the floor at the LA Fitness I went to.
Description of Work: Now that my equipment is starting to arrive, I don't think I'll ever be OK with a crowded gym ever again.

Buono was overall great to deal with. Unlike other Contractors that we initially requested quotes from, Buono was very honest and did not attempt to upsell or recommend anything more than what we really needed. Once hired, they were prompt and communicative throughout the process. They were even able to complete the project earlier than expected, which made us really happy. Most importantly, the final product looks great and the new floors have had an amazing impact on how our entire apartment feels. I would definitely recommend Buono for any flooring project you have planned.

I recently purchased a coop apartment and decided to take a full renovation around the house. Just like many other people I hired Buono's Flooring to refinish the floor(about 900 sf) even though there were companies that offered much cheaper quotes because Buono's had several good reviews. I will not go into the details outside the flooring job although I have to say Buono's Flooring had violated my community parking rules and almost costed me $500 fine and project rejected. It took them 4 days to "complete" their work although they said it'd take 2-3 days. I don't mind delayed work if it's for the quality of work but it was entirely because of their own schedule for they had "another work to do" and had to leave after 4-5 hours of work almost everyday. In addition there was no word about the work progress. On the 4th day around noon I had an email from Buono's that their work will be done around 1PM and they want me to be there to approve the work and make the final payment. When I arrived, the guy said I can't go in because the floor is still wet but still he wanted me to just pay the whole remaining balance. I refused to do so because I wanted to see the place with my eyes and make sure all the job's done correctly. The guy had to leave because he had another work to do and their office told me that they will send someone by 4-5PM when the floor is adequately dry so we can walk through the house to see the work. I waited and waited outside until 5:30PM and no one came and no word from Buono's. When I called they said no one's coming because it's too late and they had nobody available. When I went inside the house, I immediately noticed several areas I specifically requested to fix were not fixed at all. In addition, There were still a bunch of flooring material, a bucket of construction waste and garbage lying around the balcony and in the kitchen. The next day I told Buono's that they need to come finish their work once my other contractor gets their job done. Their president immediately refused to wait and demanded an immediate payment otherwise he will take legal action and contact my co op management and other contractors to give me bad reputation. Long story short, he waited and fixed a few spots(with $5 wood putty) and took out the materials and garbage but I was so sick and tired of dealing with this company at this point that I wouldn't care about the work. Their crew were rude. There was no one overseeing the work for the whole time. They are way overpriced compare to other flooring companies and the final work result was beyond disappointing and terrible. On top of everything their management wouldn't hesitate to threat a client even when it's clearly their fault. How could this company stay in business or even get good reviews?

On July 13, 2020 I called Buono Flooring to see about scheduling an appointment to discuss new flooring in my home. I received a call back the same day from a representative named Marc and we scheduled an appointment for the next day. While on the phone with Marc I explained that I was looking for either vinyl flooring or engineered wood flooring. Marc stated he had numerous options that he could show me and that he would bring many samples with him when he comes by to take measurements. The next day (July 14) Marc shows up to take measurements. After he takes the measurements he says he can come back and show me some samples. I said I thought you were going to bring samples with you today and he responds I apologize but I didn’t bring them. I then showed him a sample of a vinyl floor tile that I had so he would have an idea of the color I was looking for. Now he tells me I’ll come back tomorrow with a bunch of engineered wood flooring samples and vinyl flooring samples. On July 15 Marc shows up with just a couple of samples that were not even close to the color I was looking for. So this time I gave him the sample of vinyl flooring that I had so he could take it back to his office and match the color. He said he’s going to come by the next day with more samples. Two days later on July 17 Marc calls me asking for my email address so he can send me an estimate. I asked Mark what he’s going to send me an estimate on since we hadn’t even finished discussing what type of flooring I was going with. Marc tells me he’s going to send me an estimate on the sample that I gave to him. I said that was fine but first I wanted to see additional samples to see if I liked anything better. Marc acted like he had no idea what I was talking about even though we discussed all of this two days prior. So now he says I’ll pull out some samples and to give him another day or so to follow up. He also stated he would drop off my sample the next day on July 18. Three days later on July 20 Marc calls again asking for my email address so he can send me an estimate. At this point I am completely exasperated and so I asked him are you ever coming with additional samples? He responded well I just want to have it so I can send the estimate to you when you’re ready. I told him I’ll give it to you when you come back with the additional samples. I never heard from Marc again. Quite frankly, I don’t know how this company stays in business with a brain dead sales rep like Marc working for them. How many times do I have to ask for the same thing? To top it off he never did return my sample. In addition to that, Marc recommended another company for carpeting because I wanted wall-to-wall carpeting in other areas of my home and Buono Flooring doesn’t install wall-to-wall carpeting. The person from that company called me, came by to take measurements and I never heard from him again either. Needless to say my experience with Buono Flooring was a poor one and I would never consider them for any type of flooring.

Response from BUONO FLOORING CO
Hi [Member Name Removed], I tried to reach you on Friday. I read over your review here, and I honestly can't disagree. We unfortunately lost our two highly trained sales reps when we were shut down due to COVID - they took essential jobs in order to continue providing for their families. The sales rep you mentioned was brought here after businesses reopened under less than ideal conditions. He had an excellent resume and was very knowledgeable, but proved to not work in a way that was consistent with our company. After a short stay, he is no longer with us and I'm happy to say that our original team is back. I'm sorry you had this experience which is truly not indicative of how we do business.

Do not hire this company. I hired them based on old reviews from Yelp and Angies list to finish my new staircase. I mentioned to them repeatedly that I just had my house painted and to please be extra careful. Well they did the total opposite and left me with unnecessary damage to my walls. Also they rushed the job and paid no attention to the fine details. Not to mention they are Bona certified but I caught them not mixing the product correctly. To rush the Job they left out the hardner and mixed in a drying solution to aid the drying process between coats leaving my staircase not properly protected. They did not allow the product to fully dry before adding additional coats. I did not pay them the remaining balance until they came back and did the job correctly. But I had to be the one to supervise and make sure that the product was mixed with the right ingredients. They came back the next day and did the job the way it was supposed to be, but do you want to go through that??

Lou Buono Jr. was extremely professional. My calls and e-mails were always returned same day and he answered all of my questions. I initially contacted Buono Flooring about sanding and finishing my existing floors which were hidden under carpets for years. During the in-home consultation, I started inquiring about installing new flooring for person style preference and also to tighten the subfloor. Despite tight time constraints due to personal vacation, Lou was willing to accomodate my needs. The removal of the existing floor took a little longer than expected, but Lou was still conscious of my time. He even had his worker come the morning of the 4th of July to finish the job since I had to go back to work that following Monday. All workers were friendly, but special recognition goes to O'Neill. He was pleasant and willing to answer all questions.
Description of Work: Removed existing hardwood floors and installed new 4" red oak floors in two bedrooms (approx 350 sq feet). Sanded, stained and sealed floors.

Of 5 vendors you sent me this was the one who responded positively. the first one couldn't fit me in to two week time frame and that was a disappointment. Mr. Buono made an appointment to give me an estimate and view the job needed. He was prompt to time scheduled, gave me a fair price and scheduled the Saturday appointment two weeks later. This was what I needed because I had a new tenant coming in. I was very pleased.

Unlike other companies I called also recommended on this list, Buono returned my calls promptly, appeared to do the work within three days, and did a finejob of replacing floorboards, sanding others and staining and finishing perfectly. One other company (Perry's) said they weren't sure they could find two inch oak, and finishing would be an extra charge. Buono's man arrived on time, was extremely courteous, worked hard, asked at different points if it was as I wanted, and the finished job is beautiful.

I had used them before. They were excellent. They had done my outer floor originally, ripping up the carpeting and redoing the floors. I had a problem with termites recently and they had to replace part of the floor in my dining room. They did an excellent job.

I liked the price they offered. I had confidence because he was the owner and has actually done this work. He was knowledgeable and helpful. I am an engineer and am critical. The job was more labor intensive than estimated, but he stuck to his price. I give him credit for that. He did a beautiful job.
Description of Work: I had them remove the floor and subfloor, and level the beams. They installed new subflooring and new hardwood flooring on the diagonal in about 450 sq feet. They put on four coats of polyurethane varnish.

There seem to be two sides to Buonos Flooring. The sanding and repair crews were pleasant and very competent, very nice work repairing damaged boards. They scavenged old boards from a closet to replace hallway boards. Our experience with the finishing crew, however, was completely different. We have hair, staples, and footprints embedded in the polyurethane finish, spills and rough patches, and damaged moldings. The worst though was in the sloppy and amateurish method for patching some gaps between boards. We had workers come half a dozen times to try and fix their own work. We eventually gave up and accepted what they had done to our floors because dealing with them became so exasperating and combative. Not a pleasant experience. They were cheaper than other flooring companies but I would have happily paid more for better work and more pleasant people.

Buono did a fabulous job, and they were great to work with: Friendly, flexible, fast. Within 10 days of my first call, they had scheduled and finished the job. They didn't charge us extra for all the old paint on the floors, and they did a beautiful job repairing a few missing boards, holes, etc., for a very fair price. Luis and his team were all incredible friendly and easy to work with, and we are really happy with the results. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Buono Flooring sanded our floors and finished them with 4 coats: One coat of sealer and 3 coats of a water-based eurethane. They charged 2.25/sq. ft., which was less than the other contractors I called.
