John (the owner) was recommended by a friend of mine with high regards. In the summer of 2012, I negotiated the price of the work down to $18,000 that covered demolishing of old garage, removal of waste, and to build a brand new one-car garage with a storage loft. It would include siding, one extra exterior door at the rear of the garage, basic electrical wiring with exterior and interior lights and outlets, and adding about 100 sq. ft. of deck to an already existing deck that butts-up to the back of the garage. The old portion would be power washed and sealant (to old and new sections) would be applied. The garage went well and lived up to expectations (mostly done by other builders contracted out by John). There was an issue with garage door not sealing on the bottom well. John did not think that this was his problem...he was there to build on top of the existing foundation and if the door didn't seal right, then I would have to take care of it. He gave some suggestions, but eventually I had to solve the issue without his assistance. John's electrician was brought in and wired the garage for outlets and basic lights. I asked for an electrical inspection to be done and John said he would order one for $100. I agreed and waited for this to happen. John did much of the work on my property when I was at work during the day, so I figured the inspection took place. By the end of the summer, I asked for the report and John said it is in the mail from the inspector. It never came. Then he said that there was money that he owed to the electrician and that was why it was being delayed. After I called and said that the electrician does not create an inspection report on his own work, he seemed irritated because I caught him in a lie. I asked for my money back (only $100) and he said no problem. I never received payment until a year and half later with much reluctance and about 25 emails/phone calls/texts. As for the deck, John did this himself. The existing deck was nothing fancy so I new that the craftsmanship would not have to be outstanding. What I got was an average job (at least from a distance). From up close, there were nails sticking out of the wood, many gaps in the places where two pieces of wood come together, spindles that were already chipped and some completely broken. The old deck was power-washed to match the clean, new wood section, but no sealant was applied due to the onset of Super Storm Sandy in October of 2012. I told John no problem, we would do it first thing the following spring (March, April of 2013). He was at this point paid in full (my mistake) since it was just the deck sealing and repairs on the deck that needed to be done. Time came and John always had an excuse why he couldn't make it over. He obviously had plenty of new work that was bringing money in, but my job, which was paid in full, never became a priority. When he did make it over (May 2013), he insisted I would pay him $500 to stain the deck too so that it all the wood would match. Out of principle (from his inspection lie), I said no thanks, just weather-proofing please. Well, not liking that answer, he postponed and postponed the job all summer long and into the fall of 2013. John would never return phone calls, emails, or texts. I finally was so irritated with his professionalism, I went to his house (in my neighborhood) and confronted him. He seemed surprised and extremely uncomfortable. He of course, told me what I wanted to hear ("I'll be over right away") and we shook on it. Time went again and now it was the winter and no John from Vision Homes. Finally, I contacted John this spring (2014) to finish his work from the summer/fall of 2012 and he said he would not be doing it and to never call or contact him again.
Description of Work: John Geiger of Vision Homes built a one-car garage (unattached) and added on to existing deck.

Response from Vision Homes of NY Inc
[member name removed] is a customer that was very hard to deal with. Being he was a neighbor of a friend and customer of Vision Homes we did our best to accommodate him. Right off the top he is a person to asked for something and then turned into a wheeler and dealer in order to get a discount. Which we know the type (to much). After wining excessively, we gave him his discount $ 1,000.00. So at this point he was childishly happy. There was a inspection on electric. It's not done be the electrician, it's taken care of be a private company. [member name removed] didn't want to spend money on plans and permits,we stated to him that it's not a requirement for an electrical inspection,if your evading the town and taxes !!!! We had it inspected to please him. [member name removed] Is a very disturbing person. Take the time to go to [hyperlink removed] . In the beginning of the summer of 2012 you'll see pictures of his project. It's beautiful. [member name removed] tried to exploit Vision Homes, and is painfully upset that he didn't. He showed up years later at our home, insisting on getting back $100.00, we found him and his request very strange. Vision Homes is glad that the industry it's in is getting to be governed better. There has been in past years room for undocumented workers (SO CALLED CONTRACTORS) that were driving the price down , and being exploited by people like [member name removed]. We're a business that is A+ rated at what we do in our Industry. Shame on you [member name removed]. Our Credentials and ratings say what we've achieved. Have a nice day.
