It looked great, and the construction quality seemed excellent. About 8 years later, our dog was tied up to a post supporting the roof over the steps and jumped at a passerby. He completely pulled the post out of the ground. The two front posts had been placed on concrete footer that were below grade, and the post had rotted. Brian has been too busy to be able to accept the job to replace the two posts that are rotted out, or to even stop by to see the problem.
Description of Work: Brian put a front porch on our house.

Unfortunately, this review is very misleading. I did do a successful porch job for this client 8 years ago. As he says in his review, my work quality was excellent and he hired me 4 years later to do more work for him on his bathroom. In this recent post, the reviewer gave me "D"s for a job that did not happen simply because I was not available to work for him. This resulted in his posting a negative review but was not based on any actual work since I have not worked for this client in 2017 although he posts inaccurately that I had. Please refer to my consistent "A" reviews on Angie's list to get a clear assessment of my work from other more honest and ethical reviewers. Thank You, Brian

Brian was terrific. Summer is a busy time for carpenters, and I put in calls to a number of businesses, not all of whom responded within two weeks, or at all. Brian returned my call on the same day, came out within two days, and had an estimate ready to go almost immediately. He came to do the job exactly when he said he would, which was great. I could not be any happier with his work. He added an additional tread, which makes the steps safer, and also built the treads in such a way that rainwater would drain without pooling or rotting the wood. He matched the sides of the steps with the extant wood design, and added high quality decorative railings, which blend with the rest of the railings on the porch. And then I discovered that he'd noticed that I run my hose under the porch steps to the yard, so he carved out a very discreet spot for me to thread the hose through the back of the steps. His work had the effect of making the whole front of the house look much better. I've always been a believer in thoroughly researching home improvement projects and getting a minimum of four estimates, but now I'd never hire any company but this one for carpentry.
Description of Work: I needed my porch steps, which were 25 years old, completely rebuilt.

Brian is great to deal with. Had given us the lowest price, and did a wonderful job. He is very meticulous, easy to communicate with, put up politely with any of my changes. Arrived every morning promptly at 7:30. Did all his sawing outdoors, and in the coldest of winters might add). Completed the whole job timely. We would certainly hire him again.

I found Forster Construction on Angie's List after reading multiple great reviews. I contacted Brian Forster and got a call back for an estimate date immediately. Brian showed up for the estimate on time and provided a friendly no pressure review of my construction needs and the ins and out of what my multi-component project might entail giving excellent advice and suggestions on how to approach it. A few days later I received an estimate which was below what many other estimates had come in at. Brian and his associate Carl showed up promptly on time on the first day of construction and worked efficiently and diligently from the very beginning. At the end of each day the work area was cleaned and organized and progress was quick and exciting in terms of how fast it came together. Brain estimated that my project would take a week and he was exactly right. They showed up every morning, on time and ready for work with with positive friendly attitudes to boot. The first component was closing in a back door to our house and creating a new window - then building a large deck from a ground level platform deck to a full enclosed deck with handrails and lattice walls. I asked Brian to create special side walls that would give my deck some privacy but also good airflow pass through and light. I wasn't sure what I wanted and he constructed beautiful elegant side walls on my deck that were exactly what worked perfectly. Each square lattice panel wall was handmade and scalloped at the top for added beauty. The deck itself is built like a Sherman tank, strong, sturdy and solid in every aspect. Joints are perfect and everything is seamless. Following the exceptional deck construction, Brian put in a new french double door on a wall to our dining room that opened to our new deck that did not previously have a door. The door was installed perfectly and, during the installation, the work area was properly tented on the interior and created little to no dust or dirt in the rest of the first floor of my house. Brian has transformed my home with his exceptional craftsmanship! I feel extremely lucky to have met Brian and Carl and felt extremely comfortable having them at my home for the week interacting with my kids and even tolerating my dog. Brian is trustworthy, honest and professional in every way. My neighbors all have commented on what an exceptional job Forster Construction provided and how much the project has added financial value to my home. I would not hesitate to call Brian at Forster Construction for ANY future construction needs and have already recommended him to my mother who also has had an exceptional construction project completed by him. BRAVO FORSTER CONSTRUCTION! You're the best in town!

Brian and his assistant Carl removed and disposed of the old pressure treated deck surface and replaced it with Trex Tiki Composite. To help us stay on budget, rather than replace the existing 25 year old railings they strengthened and shored up the old rail and were able to do an excellent job of salvaging it. They also had to customize the surround that interfaced with the above ground pool top rail to enable us to still install the winter cover. This involved extra time to level and carefully trim out the interface to maintain the necessary clearances. They also created a customer hatch to access the pool filter. Both of these steps took a significant amount of time. They arrived on time or earlier each day and worked steadily for three days. The workmanship was excellent in every regard. I would go so far as to say the work is meticulous and they both were highly professional in every regard. They also did work that went beyond what the contract provided for including leveling the adjacent stairs which was of significant value to the overall appearance of the job. The value that we received was excellent as was all workmanship. We found the Angie's list highly positive reviews to be fully supportive of our experience with Brian and Carl and would recommend them to others. Having carefully maintained our pressure treated deck for some 25 years we are looking forward to much more time enjoying the deck-- rather than spending time with the annual refinishing routine of these past many years. Thanks Brian and Carl!

We invited Brian to bid on the deck job based on previous Angie's List reviews. When he came to view the job site we had an extended and very valuable discussion about the design and details of the job. Brian's comments and suggestions were very insightful and helped us settle on the eventual design for the work. His proposal was competitively priced and fit our plans, though several of the constructions details were deliberately left open. We had sufficient confidence in Brian to believe those details could be worked out as the job progressed. That confidence was fully justified. Once the job began, Brian and his crew worked quickly and carefully, in a very craftsman like manner. Decision making about the remain details was smooth and produced an excellent result. The entire job was complete in four working days to our complete satisfaction.

He called shortly after I emailed my request and arrived soon after to give an estimate. On the day of the work, showed up on time with 2 others workers and worked all day to finish the job. Since I have a neuromuscular disorder, I needed smaller steps that are easier to climb, which came out great. He also made the railings really sturdy. So, I can grab them to pull myself up the stairs when needed, which will help my mom as well. We will definitely use Forster Construction again.

Brian was excellent to work with. When we called him about building a deck, he talked with us about design ideas, knew all the rules about the correct slope for a ramp, gave us names and addresses of other people he'd built decks for, and provided an estimate that was MUCH lower than the other builder we had talked with. He and one assistant built the deck in only a few days, working quickly and carefully, and the cost was exactly as initially proposed. That was such a positive experience that when we needed to have a window replaced (frame and all), we immediately contacted him. Again, his work was excellent. I recommend him enthusiastically.

We began looking for contractors and heard of Brian by word of mouth as well. He promptly showed up with the most reasonable estimate and had great design ideas. They were initially booked out 3 months. A job was cancelled, we received a call on a Sunday and he started on Monday. It was completed finished before noon on Wednesday. Amazing! Clean up was complete, it was as if the deck had existed all along. Highly recommended!

What can I say, Brian did a great job. Brian gave us a ballpark range over the phone when we first called him then gave us a concrete estimated when he first came in person. I can't say that he you could set a clock by his punctuality because he was 10 minutes early for everything. He put in the deck and the concrete pad for the hot tub in 3 days and did an outstanding job. When you meet him, he will immediately remind you of the guy from Holmes on Homes on HGTV. Not only did he show up early each day, meet his deadline, but he actually handed me back a few bucks when it came time to pay because he said some of the materials came in under what he expected. How is that for professionalism and honesty. We have a contractor in the family and he saw the deck and concrete pad and said you can't compete with Brian when it comes to price and quality. Though I didn't speak to Brian's helper, he also shows up early and appeared to know what he was doing. A quiet, productive, and efficient apprentice- you can't find that any more. I will definitely call Brian when it comes to the next project.

Brian did an excellent job. He gave me a solid quote in a timely manner. He was ontime, neat and tidy, he put drop clothes from the front door all the way upstairs to the bathroom, cleaned up everyday. He accomodated a couple of mid-job changes that I made. He worked around my schedule. He was reasonable when it came to additional cost for the changes I made. He gave me a credit for something he didn't need to do. It was a great experience to have him do the work on my bathroom.

Excellent experience. I cold-called Brian and left a return number. Call was returned next day and we arranged for an in-home appointment to discuss work and estimates. Brian arrived promptly, listened to the work my wife and I wanted and he provided an estimate. Brian arrived to do the work on the day and time agreed (9/23) and with an assistant, removed the old deck and began work on the new deck. They arrived again on Friday and completed most of the deck construction. They returned on Monday as planned , finished the deck railings/stairs and did repairs around the porch door . On Tuesday Brian did all the other work we requested (see services performed section) . Brian made sure we were ok with the work. I feel like I received a very fair price for high quality work. Brian is honest, reliable, hard working, reasonably priced, professional and courteous, and he cares about quality. I have other work repairs to do and not only have I asked Brian to work here again, I would recommend him to others,
Description of Work: Brian took down old deck , inserted new footings and installed a new 14x14 deck with rails and stairs. Removed and replaced corroded material by porch door, removed front storm door, removed front door and jambs. Installed new prehung front door and re-installed storm door, added trim inside and outside front door, repaired fascia on outside of home, removed and replaced rotted garage door trim. In each case Brian added the finishing touches that made everything look and work great. He provided feedback about care and maintenance and removed all debris.

Mr. Forster returned my initial inquiry within 24 hours and did an on-site inspection within 2 days of that call. He provided me with a written proposal. Upon receipt of a downpayment for materials a date was set for the work to begin. Mr. Forster arrived on time for the 3 days he and his crew (2 other workers) and proceeded to work in an efficient and professional manner. They were very respectful, always kept the area neat and removed any debris that was left over. This is a project that has haunted me for a number of years and Mr. Forster and his efforts dispelled my fears with his confident knowledge and workman-like manner. I will definitely be contacting him again for further projects.

Mr Forster came soon after I called him for an estimate. He quoted me a price that was 1/4 the price quoted by the company that had originally screened in the porch. We hired Brian to tear out our old, rotting rear deck and replace it with new lumber and Trex railings. First off, he was punctual for his estimate appointment. Second, while not the cheapest bid we received from the contractors we spoke to, his was significantly less than the highest. Third, he actually began the work a few days ahead of the scheduled start-date, due to his calendar having a sudden opening. Brian did the work himself (with one assistant); arrived promptly in the morning and stayed throughout each of the two days the work required. Most important, he did a stellar job: The deck is beautiful and solid as a rock. One last thing: We called him a couple of times since with questions about care and maintenance, and he returned both calls quickly and was eminently nice about it. We would use Brian again for anything involving quality carpentry and would recommend him very, very highly to anyone needing the same.

I called Brian because he had been rated highly on Angie's List. He came right out that weekend and gave me an estimate. He listed carefully to what we wanted and asked good questions. He was able to squeeze me into his schedule three weeks earlier than he originally exepected. He said he would begin at 7:30 in the morning and I thought to myself, "yeah right", when he said that. But sure enough, he and two of his workers showed up at 7:30 on the dot and began work. He carefully tore down my existing dilapidated deck and was careful to not damage my house in the process. They worked very hard all day and got all footings dug and poured and the deck frame constructed and joists cut. They came at 7:00-7:30 each of the three days it took to construct the deck and worked extremely hard through 90+ degree heat each day. They applied the decking and railings on day 2 and completed the stairs and apron on day 3. They also made a "gate" for us that looked just like the railing so we could keep our three year old from accidently falling down the stairs or "escaping" the confines of the deck when he's out playing. This gave us great peace of mind and was not something he had to do. He also made us a little hatch entry door, so we can store things under the deck if we want to or get under there for any reason. He listened to us throughout the job and accommodated our requests whenever possible. All were very professional and did great finish work, including sanding down all rough edges and any splintered wood on all surfaces.
Description of Work: I needed my existing 10x10 deck removed (carefully). I needed a new 12x30 ft. deck installed with all footings dug and poured below the frost line. I needed the price to include all materials and labor. The deck needed to have railings, one large set of stairs and an apron made with lattice. I also wanted a hatch entry door to get under the deck and a gate to keep children from going down the stairs unattended.

It went very well. Brian is on time and efficient. He and his employee (total two people) worked on a Friday and a Monday and finished almost everything in two days. It was a very dry weekend and I was concerned with the cracks in the wood. Brian was very patient. I asked around and realized that the wood would crack anyway. As long as it is not a deep crack all the way through the wood, it is fine. After a few days of rain, the cracks actually disappeared. Overall, it is a very satisfying experience. Brian is a very good carpenter. Everyone is impressed, including my neighbors and my wife. Brian is not too big on design, though. But if you know what you want, Brian probably can make it happen.

Mr. Forster was prompt, worked assiduously and methodically but deftly, and did a fine job and on schedule, too. The area was well-cleaned after the job. His pricing was on par with other estimates, and there were only two almost-niggling problems I discovered (and very easily addressed myself) later.
Description of Work: Mr. Forster removed all the molding and old screening (which had been stapled in place beneath the molding) from our backyard porch. At my request, he installed channels all around the exterior, and then installed new screen with spline so that I can make my own repairs more easily in the future.
