This was an amazingly POSITIVE experience! From my initial inquiry, which was answered PROMPTLY, to the estimate, which followed very quickly, to the beautifully completed job, I was 180% pleased with Steve Byrne and his painters!! Steve himself is great to deal with, and very accomodating. I made two changes subsequent to our agreement, and Steve had no problem whatsoever adding them on. His crew is totally professional, and their work was meticulous! It was very obvious that they know their craft well and take pride in their finished product! The entire job went seamlessly!! I would hire Steve Byrne painting again in a heartbeat, and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for excellent results, and a stress free experience, at a very reasonable price!! Kudos to a contractor who takes his business seriously, and treats his customers like royalty! You won't regret hiring Steve Byrne painting!

Steve Byrne painting did a great job on our house. Larry and his crew were super detailed, but the job was finished really quickly. Larry made a new window box for the front of my house, he repaired a broken window, and took care of all the cracks in our foundation. He and his crew did a wonderful job - I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

We were not able to bid on this project because of the material specifications required by the homeowner. We have never used this product before, and are aware of problems that other homeowners have had using it. Not being comfortable with this product, we felt it was best to not bid on this project. No business transaction occurred between us and this homeowner.

In March of 2012, I purchased the paint to cover my somewhat weather-beaten cedar siding after a lot of careful research. Both my paint dealer and several online contractors reported good results with using high-quality paint on cedar. Test patches of the paint and primer that sat on my home for several months showed no bleed-through. After a visit to my home (several weeks after my initial call), another professional painting business in this area (highly rated on Angie's List) insisted that they would require a complex legal rider before they would even consider putting paint on cedar. They insisted that *no one* puts paint on cedar and that it cannot be done with any expectation of decent results. Although their excessive hesitation was inconsistent with the other input I'd received, I agreed to have my lawyer look at their rider if they would give me a non-binding estimate in writing first. After trying unsuccessfully to get a written bid from them for over six weeks, I gave up for the 2012 season because other projects (including a furnace replacement) intervened. Fast forward to summer, 2013. I got Steve Byrne's name from Angie's List and gave him a call. Within a couple of days he had visited my home, discussed the painting projects I wanted to do, and provided me with a set of three estimates: one for the exterior of the house, one for the back yard fence, and one for the deck. His estimate was neither the highest nor the lowest of the three painting businesses I contacted; it was in the middle and seemed fair. More importantly to me, Steve listened to what I wanted, discussed various options, and had no problem with bidding the three components of the job (house, fence, and deck) separately. Steve also relieved any lingering worries about putting paint on cedar. Granted, he had the advantage of seeing that there was no bleed-through in over a year's time with the test patches of white primer, tinted primer, green paint, or pale yellow paint. But what a contrast to the shop I tried to hire in 2012, who had insisted on a legally binding indemnification for the entire job if I insisted on using paint (and then still didn't get me a contract even after I agreed to this condition)! Steve sent out a great crew, including Jeremy, Matt, and Doug. We worked out a schedule that was convenient for all of us, and it was wonderful to have the same faces on the job every day. From my perspective, they demonstrated the perfect balance of friendliness and professionalism. We could enjoy a chat and hang out on their (very brief) breaks. But they didn't take over my house, expecting to use the bathroom, telephone, and refrigerator without even knocking first (as previous workers had done). Their interpersonal skills were matched by their excellent work and willingness to offer suggestions when we ran into questions I hadn't considered (e.g., What color should the soffits be?). Long ago, in the Dark Ages, I worked as a house painter, and I was really blown away by this crew's neatness and attention to detail. Jeremy, Matt, and Doug's work site was impressively organized and clean, and they didn't leave my driveway littered with wrappers and soda cans (cf. previous workers). Thus far, the house is finished except for a few touch-ups; the fence is finished; and the deck is almost done. My partner and I are absolutely blown away by how wonderful everything looks, including the detailed window sills with two trim colors. Jeremy, Matt, and Doug's fine detail work is done with incredible care, as is their work on larger structures. Heck, they even made sure to paint the fence from two different angles so that the paint got into all of the inter-slat crevices! We ran into one snag that was not their fault, but which Jeremy helped me fix. In direct sunlight, the lighter of the two green (house body) colors I used looked as though it came from an entirely different color palette than darker green it was supposed to compliment. Steve figured out that this effect probably occurred because the custom-tinted primer we used had a blue cast to it that came through the lighter green when it met the blue light of a sunny sky. With that information, the staff at the paint store worked with me to create a different, custom light green paint -- one that matched the darker green under actual use conditions -- on the house, over the primer, and under sunlight (rather than on paper, sans primer, under store lights). It worked beautifully, and I am very grateful to Jeremy for taking the time to analyze the problem and come up with a reasonable explanation. This has been a very long review, but I wanted to do right by Steve Byrne and his crew. I have had some truly awful experiences with handymen and contractors since moving to New York state in 2011 -- the first state in which I've lived in which there are no licensure requirements for contractors. Quite honestly, my partner and I are considering relocation because we can't afford to pay the taxes here *and* regularly pay three contractors/craftsmen to do a single job: the first to do it (wrong), the second to redo the job, and the third to fix the damage caused by the first two in the course of their labor-- which has been our experience with other projects. I wish that more contractors, handymen, and construction/repair professionals ran their shops the way that Steve Byrne and his crew run theirs. I definitely recommend them to others with two thumbs up, and they will be at the top of my list should we need more painting done here!
Description of Work: In August, 2013, Steve Byrne's crew prepped, primed, & painted the cedar exterior of my two-story house (~2,700 sqft). I chose to paint rather than stain to better protect the older wood. Labor cost: $4,975 + tax. (I provided paint, primer & caulk.) They also prepped, primed & painted my back yard fence (~3,000 sqft; Labor: $1,975 + tax; I provided paint, primer, caulk). They also prepped and stained our back deck and its trim (~800 sqft; Labor: $1,575 + tax; I provided the stain). Total for entire job: $8,525 + tax. All three jobs were done on time, as promised, and with excellent craftsmanship. Scheduling and communication were handled with friendliness and professionalism. Billing was straightforward, fair, and above board. I would definitely use them again! UPDATE: March 30, 2014. Well, folks, it's been a rough winter in a lot of ways. One of the truly bright spots has been the appearance of my home's exterior, thanks to Steve Byrne's crew. The fantastic job that they did on my house last summer has stood up to the elements beautifully. Every time I drive back home from an outing, I find myself smiling when I see the fantastic paint job they did. And thanks again, guys, for not letting me talk myself out of the yellow fence. It was definitely the right color!

Steve and his team were absolutely phenomenal. Steve was the first one to call me back and I called five people off Angie's list. He came out the next day as promised and called me because he was running three minutes late. I was impressed immediately. Steve came out and did a quote for one coat of paint and then two coats of paint for my home. We tried to do one coat at first and it had a particular quote to it. When we did not like how that one coat was looking we used the second quote and the house looks beautiful. Larry was the leader of the team that came over and painted our home. He was meticulous with everything I could honestly call him a perfectionist. They finished in three days, were very polite, professional, and again perfectionists. Steve was not the cheapest quote we received but he was absolutely the most professional and therefore we gave him the job. It is one of the best decisions we have ever made when it comes to improving our home. We are selling and moving to St. Louis. I wish I could take Steve and his team with us. if I lived in Central New York I would never use anyone but Steve Byrne and his team.

It was a really weird thing. It turns out we shouldn't have been able to see him because he is out of our area but the first time we used it, somehow, it open it up to that area. This would have gone better had we not had such a wet late fall in 2012. But initially I called Steve for an estimate and that was prompt and better than 2 other estimates I'd gotten (Steve uses a sprayer instead of hand-brushing for the main work, which cuts down on time and cost, some people prefer brush, it's a personal preference thing for those who can afford it). We discussed and planned the work and Steve provided estimates for each section so that I could pick and choose what I could do myself to save some money as well. Once it was settled, a work crew came out even sooner than I'd expected and started the power-washing and then the scraping/paint removal. The crew chief was very nice and kept me informed of every decision, and we had a lot of little things pop up (older house that hadn't really been taken care of externally for over 10 years). The crew worked probably about 6 hours a day unless the weather got in the way. Due to several rainy days and then time to let the wood dry, the project took much longer than originally hoped, but again you can't trust the weather. Eventually the painting got done, the many rotted and water-damaged sections of our house were repaired, and everything looked amazing. Overall I was pleased with the end product and was happy with the service aspect as well. Hopefully we won't have another painting job like this for many years, but when we do, I'll call Steve Byrne first. As another vote of confidence, while work was going on we happened to have a tree service out doing work and they also had good things to say about Steve, without prompting.
Description of Work: Painted exterior of old 2-story wood siding house. Scraped and removed lead-based paint, repaired several rotted/broken sections, primed/painted 1 coat overall, 2 coats where needed.

The job went very well. They had four guys, mostly, doing the work. Steve Bryne doesn't do the work, he does the quoting. It's his company but he doesn't come out, but I did speak to him a couple of times. And a couple of things I spoke to him about, I said I wouldn't speak to you guys about it because I didn't think it rose to a level that I should complain about. But, I thought that the job they did was very good. We did have weather issues, but they couldn't have done anything about that. They came and did a power wash first, it took them about two hours. And then the weather was bad for a couple of days, then they came back and they did a couple of days worth of worth and the weather was bad again, and then they came back again. It was like fits and spurts; it wasn't their fault but it took a while because of the weather. So, my biggest recommendation would be to do it earlier in the season; don't do it in October, do it in May or December. But they did a nice job; they were very professional and very nice. They did everything that we asked them to do. After they did most of it, my wife and I went around and did an inspection and then we made a list of things that they needed to do and they did them. The only thing that we had to call back on that I think that they should have done initially is, after they painted the sashes they didn't scour the windows so I couldn't open the windows. So I called Steve for that and the crew came back and did it.

The team communicated perfectly with me via email and phone prior to starting the work. The quote was clear and included all requested items. Team contacted me prior to beginning the job. Mr Byrne responded to my Angies' List inquiry in a timely manner, went to the house and provided the proposal in just a few days. With the mild winter, they were able to schedule and get the work done quickly. The existing paint on the house was OLD, the" B" given does NOT reflect the quality of the work it reflects that this was the lowest estimate by thousands of $$, and my desire was to ONLY "freshen" the exterior. Mr Byrne explained in detail that the house would be pressure cleaned, scrapped and painted... it was MY choice to NOT go with the MUCH more expensive process ($15,000+) of other estimates I would NOT hesitate to use this company in the future if I wanted work done. OVERALL it was an excellent experience.

First contacted Steve Byrne in late July and asked for an estimate for window casing repainting on the exterior of our house. He came out promptly & we received an estimate within a few days. His estimates were competitive with others we sought estimates from. We decided to go with his firm and sent in a deposit, as requested. Steve estimated that his crew would be able to get to us by the first or second week of September, which was fine. While preparing for the painting, we noticed a couple of window sills that had rotted out & arranged to have them replaced. Unfortunately, the person who we had arranged to replace the sills had not completed that work by the time Steve's crew was ready to begin (we received a call on a Saturday, asking if it would be okay if they came Monday morning). A couple of weeks later once the sills were replaced, I called Steve back, to let him know we were ready. It was late in the season however, and the crew assigned to our job was involved in another, large job. It took several weeks and persistent, back and forth checking in with the crew leader to ultimately get them out. Once again, it was with short notice. Fortunately, I was working from home that day so it worked out fine. Once the crew got to our house, they were great. They got down right to work, were very professional, thorough and competent. In the end, an excellent, quality job, worth the wait. Some room for improvement with communication, advance notice on scheduling, but otherwise a job very well done.

Previous experiences with painters have either been long-drawn out affairs or very uneven work. They worked with me on the start date so that we could sand our porch decks for a better outcome. Steve Byrnes uses a foreman who directs all the painters, who all are experienced workers who actually know what they are doing. They did a good job of pressure washing, several days before painting began so that it could dry. The scraping and caulking was excellent and cleanup great. They worked with me on removing the wooden storm/screens so that there would be no paint build-up and also added a couple of minor paint jobs with an on-the-spot estimate. They sprayed/brushed the porch ceilings and cornice and sprayed the siding. The high-quality paint they used I think will last a long time. What really amazed me is that the painting was completed in a week, because of the size of the crew and the spraying. My house has never looked this good and I'd highly recommend them. Given the paint buildup of a 100-year old house, it won't last forever, but I'm hopeful that it will last better than previous jobs.
Description of Work: My large, 1906 colonial with 2 porches and 3 dormers, 2-story columns and bead-board ceilings and some fancy trim had not been painted in 10 years and just had some repair work completed. I have aluminum siding which also needed repainting. The bid was for pressure washing, scraping and priming bare spots with the highest quality Sherwin-Williams self-priming paint (Duration) and then giving the trim a full coat and painting the aluminum siding plus the porch decks and basement windows and porch lattice. It did not include the exterior of the window sash behind the wooden storm/screens.

The owner of the company, Steve Byrne, called back the same day that I left a message and made an appointment for the next day to give an estimate. He arrived on time and looked at the job, promising to give me the price by the next day. Not only was he pleasant and laid back, but made good on his word with the estimate. After I received proposals from other companies, I decided to use Steve. He told me that the crew foreman would call when we got closer to the start date. Jeremy was the foreman for his crew and did a fantastic job from start to finish! I can not say enough about the expert results from this team!
Description of Work: The crew powerwashed the wood siding with Jomax and then let it dry for two days (as requested by me) before continuing work. They removed loose caulk and re-caulked before applying two coats of solid latex stain. (Olympic Maximum stain supplied by me).
